“Too touristy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2013

I think this place lost its charm... It doesn't really look that chinese anymore. So many foreign shops (Esprit, cold stone etc.), too crowded on the weekend and wayyy overpriced souvenirs.

“Very beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2013

We got the run around trying to find this attraction,, One sign shows YuYuan Gardens but doesnt say which way to go.. We asked the locals who sent us on a wild goose chase back and forth until we finally found it by ourselves. It was worth it in the end and we could even get a Seniors card discount on the entry fee. The surrounding shops were a delight.. so charming and what great variety..

“Natural Beauty in Busy Shanghai”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2013

What a wonderful experience to find such natural garden beauty in the midst of Shanghai. Of course, the visitor is advised to select non-humid weather to enjoy this site to the fullness. The water lilies and the mini-bridges and pavilions are truly works of artistic design. And to imagine these are over 500 years old (built in 1559)

“A haven in a sea of humanity!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2013

Just returned from a trip to china which included a few days in shanghai. Whilst the scale of growth in the city is staggering (15 years ago the 'new' city didn't exist !) don't miss out on the chance to visit 'old' shanghai including the zig zag bridge and tea garden and especially the Yu garden. It is located right in the heart of the old city and s amazing for the immediate calm and tranquility that embraces you as you step from the hussle and bustle of the ancient streets into the garden itself. It is laid out beautifully along the fang shui principle and it really works! The landscaped gardens and koi carp stocked ponds are breathtaking and you feel a sense of peace immediately. We spent an hour or so and did not visit all the various buildings and areas.....a real gem, don't miss it!

“Watch out for the watch sellers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2013

Great place to see the mix of Chinese architecture against the backdrop of the various tall buildings in Pudong. Constantly pestered by people selling watches and other fake goods, something that I didn't really witness elsewhere in Shanghai during my visit
