I just returned from a business trip to shanghai and could say that in overall I was quite surpirsed with the expereince. The most famous and attractive sight could be regarded as the Bund also knon as the Zhongshan Road. It starts from the Baidu Bridge, which is at the connecting point of the Huangpu River and the Suzhou Creek, to the East Jinling Road and winds a 1500 meters.

Whether it is in the daytime or at night, the views along the river are the same beautiful. The great modern skyscrapers and the characteristic buildings in different architectural styles are the best records of the development of the city and the Huangpu River, the birthplace of Shanghai, is the faithful eyewitness.

The most famous and attractive sight which is at the west side of the Bund are the 52 various buildings of different architectural styles including Gothic, Baroque, Romanesque, Classicism and the Renaissance. All now turned into bars, discos, restaurants and has become a very popular hangout specially for the european community living in Shanghai.

“Beautiful Architecture, Stunning Views”

The Bund (Wai Tan)

The Bund is one of THE sights to see if you visit Shanghai. Perfect for strolling and people-watching, it offers great views of Huangpu River traffic, the modern skyscrapers of Pudong, and is adjacent to touristy shopping mecca Nanjing Road. Bring a camera: day or night you will capture a magical shot. This is also the area where you can purchase tickets for a boat ride.

I do agree with the previous reviewer though in that there are A LOT of aggressive beggers and salespeople (selling everything from fake Rolexes to poorly made toys). However, they are not as bad as on Nanjing Road and I didn't encounter those pesky "art students" here.

Saw The Bund while taking an evening cruise on Huangpu River. When you get on the boat, make sure you stay at the open air deck - doesn't matter where you sit coz the boat turns around anyway and you'll get to see both sides of the river.

The buildings here are spectacular - European looking. And it's nicer to see at night.

This is our third time to Shanghai, but the first time asking our driver to take us on a night tour of the area. We were not disappointed.

We were traveling on the west side of the river(The Bund side) and the view was breath taking . The dirver offered to ake us to the other side of the river to see the Bund from the Pudong area but as it was getting late , we decided not to. We did not stop to take pictures as it may take some professional equipment to do justice for the night scene.

This is one tour that one should consider in the evening.
