I have just returned from a stay at the RuiTai Hotel in Shanghai and have to say that it was rather disappointing. I would liken it to a Travelodge hotel. Rooms are clean (except the carpets) but very basic and a lot of them face out onto a very noisy main road. Breakfast isn't up to much unless you like cabbage and onions first thing in the morning. You can have an egg cooked for you but other than that there is a choice of veg, salad, cereal (which was stale) or toast. When I tried to cash travellers cheques at reception they had no money and told me to try the following morning but again they were unable to cash them for me. There is a bank directly next door but no access to main hall or atm before 9 am.
If you want a "no frills" hotel then this one's for you but if you want something a little more personal try elsewhere.
