“Great stay in Shanghai”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2013

The best about this hotel is the breakfast buffet! I could honestly eat for hours in there! I loved the options and soooo many fruits. They also changed the menu everyday! Fantastic!
Rooms are very comfortable. They all have a great view. The appliances are a bit outdated, but it is ok. Internet is ridiculously expensive! Great location.

The hotel is located in a busy and safe district that shops open until 10pm. The rooms are spacious and clean. The breakfast buffet is excellent with good selection of both Chinese, Japs and Western food. The only inconvenience is that Wifi is not free and actually costs quite a bit.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2013

We stayed 4 nights here at the end of May. The hotel is in an excellent location - located in popular Nanjing Road - with shopping & restaurants galore surrounding. We bought tickets for the Big Bus tours - hop-on, hop-off. This allowed us to see some sights and ride around the city with excellent views from a double-decker bus. There were many English-speaking staff which made for an easy stay. Rooms were ok but some in need of refurbishment. The 1st night we were put on a smoking floor which stank of smoke. We managed to shift rooms the next day to a non-smoking floor for which we were extremely grateful. But there was a big problem with the new room. The air conditioning was leaking from the ceiling dripping all over the carpet making a mess. Maintenance attempted to fix it but it was still leaking. We waited without unpacking through all of this only to find we needed to contact the front desk to arrange moving again. Eventually we settled into a new room even though the bathroom basin plug was not working properly. The bed was comfortable but not the pillows. An excellent breakfast was included in our room rate (included bread and butter pudding on alternate days). It is best to avoid the peak time of around 8.30 am if you don't want to be seated at the same table as people you don't know. Too expensive to eat at restaurants in-house. We preferred the western eateries across the road at East Towers. We really enjoyed our visit to Shanghai and found this a great location near to subway. However, I was not impressed when I discovered a tea mug purchase had gone missing when it came to packing on the last day. Our Chinese tour guide had explained that if anything went missing from your room it is considered your fault, i.e. you shouldn't leave it where it can be seen. Of course, nothing turned up in lost property and no regret was expressed by the front desk staff. So, I was bitterly disappointed and it was too late to go back and buy another one (it was a souvenir of my visit to the Great Wall). Upon leaving concierge staff pushed hard for us to book the expensive hotel limousine transfer to the airport on departure. They seemed less than impressed when we booked our usual taxi ride. Yet the ride was quick and satisfactory. Overall, we loved our stay in Shanghai.

Room Tip: The higher you can go the better the view!! Make sure you ask for a non-smoking room if you prefer...

This hotel is in a great location, is very well kept and has a great breakfast buffet included if you book online and prepay.
The price was very reasonable during our stays which were in May and June of 2013. We were travelling around China and returned to Shanghai and the JC Mandarin several times. There is a swimming pool, but you either have to bring your own bathing cap or purchase one.
No complaints as the hotel was very nice for the price and the staff were very accomodating. Taxis are cheap and plentiful in Shanghai and this hotel was only a short Taxi ride from all of the places you would want to visit.

We enjoyed this hotel, the location and great breakfast buffet. We stayed on floor 10 and the room was good size but not one of those that had been remodeled. Our carpet had some stains and there was an old fashion hair dryer. The bathroom was large enough for two women to get ready in with mirror space. The twin beds were very good size. The TV and coffee/tea service was fine. The room was quiet and it had a safe. The only thing that lacked in this hotel primarily was that they did not offer free wifi like the other 5 star hotels we stayed in China. It was pay by the day. Even if it was in the lobby or one spot it would have made home communication easier.
Thanks
