“Poor location - never again!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013 via mobile

Stayed here for 2 nights for leisure and was disappointed. This Grand Mercure is an ordinary four star property one would expect- no surprises and nothing exceptionally impressive about. Location was out of the city centre and one would need to rely alot on the taxi. The nearest shopping area is a 10min taxi ride away to "wujiaochang" where you can find big brand labels such as uniqlo. It is basically situated in a residential area.

Rooms were clean, modern and well maintained. Bed were comfortable but yet definitely not the best Grand Mercure i have stayed in. Service were mediacore but the conceirge did help us to get a taxi. Not extremely helpful but ok.

Breakfast have a decent selection and the ambience was commendable. It would have been better if there are more seatings at the lobby for guests. Was also disappointed as there are no complimentary wifi in room. Wifi at lobby was also unstable.

In short- a poor value stay given the price I have paid, probably never again!

Stayed 2 nights on a recent China trip and hotel's located away from the centre as mentioned by fellow reviewers with not much shops nearby apart from some convenience shops at the side lane. While hotel lobby and restaurants looks polished, the bedrooms has a worn out look though bathroom looks relatively new, clean. Housekeeping's abit lacking as carpet didn't get thoroughly vacumn on the 2 days i stayed there (can see a nutshell lying under the bed). Must say restaurant's spacious and serve a very good breakfast choice and lovely croissant (as befit a French hotel chain?)

I usually stay at this hotel because it has a great gym and it is conveniently located for my business. But I wouldn'trecommend it id what you want to do is tourism as it is far from any attraction.
If your stay is long you won't realice as rooms areclean upon arrival but if you stay over a week you will see that cleaners just limit to change towels and bedsheets.

(-) 1)you need 30 minutes to go to Nanjiang's road; and 60 minutes to go to airport.
2) the lobby don't have convenience chair/sofa for sitting, but they have if you buy drink or food. 3) they don't have wifi in the room, even in public area you need to pay.4) almost the staff's hotel in breakfast area can't speak English even for simple conversation, it difficult for me to order or ask something.

(+). Nothing!

The Baolong Hotel (Grand Mecure Hotel) in Shanghai was clean, modern and comfortable. The rooms were a generous size, well maintained and clean. It had all the standard amenities needed for the traveller. It had a beautiful lobby but not too many places to sit and rest without having to buy a drink or coffee. Service at the front desk and concierge staff were quite indifferent to downright rude - definitely lacked customer service. It is not located in the heart of Shanghai, therefore not a lot to do in the vicinity while waiting for our ride to the airport. Breakfast was good with a good selection of international dishes. I would hesitate staying here again.

This hotel,is out of the city centre and requires a taxi to get anywhere. About 20 minutes to Nanjing Road and about 35yuan, or AU$6. Some staff were good, Kelly LI was very nice and loved to talk English and get it right. What a lovely girl however some not so good. Some on the concierge really had no idea and didnt seem to care one way or the other the same on the main desk. As an Accor member we expect a little more after paying and using Accor for so long. No wifi in rooms was also a. It unexpected and we were charged when we had to go the the lobby to get connected. What the??? Also no swim without a cap?? Cost 20 yuan but .......rooms very larger, buffet good, beer cold, wine great although the red was chilled. Overall not a bad choice as it could be worse.

Unless you have business in the neighborhood, there plenty of other (and much better) hotels closer to the centre. The Grand Mercure is pretty good if you ignore the location: nice rooms, good service, good food. You have to pay additional for most amenities (eg swimming pool etc), which surprised me a little. Same with Internet, although there is a free (and unpublicized) wifi in the main atrium - sit down for a yoghurt drink on the couch with your iPad, and you'll feel quite relaxed ;) But to be honest, it is a good 15 min walk to the nearest subway stop nd then about 15-20 min to the centre, so a hotel would have to be great for me to ignore that handicap - and the Grand Mercure isn't great, it's just good.
