The Ruitai Jingan Hotel is in a modern part of Shanghai where there are restaurants and shops nearby and is easy to get to. Metro line 2 goes from the airport to the hotel in about one and a half hours at a cost of 7 RMB. From the airport line 2 terminates at Guangan Rd. station so you have to cross the platform and board another line 2 train to West Nangin Rd station and look for the sign to Wujiang Rd and exit 4. The hotel is just on the right hand side of the exit at the start of a pedestrian only shopping road to large H&M and Marks & Spencer stores. The trip can be reduced to about half an hour if you use the Maglev (50 RMB) fast train to and from the airport to Longyan Rd. and change there to Metro Line 2.. The hotel is relatively modern and the reception staff spoke good English. The room I booked was a cheap offer with no windows which I was happy to take because it was only a quick one night stopover. The room was nice but very small although it had a double bed and a nice walk in shower. I noted that some contributors have commented that the bed was hard. It was but I found that good to sort out my aching back after a long flight. There were two free bottles of water and 4 packets of free green or black tea with a kettle and a mini bar. The free hotel wired internet service was good. Breakfast was a nice mixture of Chinese and European. There was a safe inside the small wardrobe. Other more expensive rooms with window are larger and more comfortable but for a budget price those small windowless rooms are reasonable value for money for a stay in that location.

Room Tip: There are very small budget rooms without windows. They are small but quite good for those with lim...

This hotel is nicely located nearby down town Shanghai, and in the commercial area where you can find many different brands and shops. The hotel itself was much clean and the staffs are much profesional and kind. The room was reasonably large but not all rooms come with windows. I had a room that came with windows but as the window was behind the signboard of the hotel, there was no view to rave about. As a business hotel for someone who is out of the room most of the time, this hotel serves the purpose well.

Room Tip: Rooms with window

What others have said is right on: this hotel is in superb location. 10 walk to French Concession and right on Wujiang Pedestrian Street with noodles and burgers and coffee shops within 10 seconds walk. Best way to get here from Pudong Airport now is take the metro (line 2) - yes the Maglev is cool but you have to make a change in Longyang while the metro is direct. Purchase a 7 RMB ticket. Get off at Nanjing West and take exit 4, turn right and the hotel is about 50 feet in front of you. Important metro tip: make sure to get off the train at Guanglan and get on the train going the other way on the opposite track (the one you were on from Pudong simply goes back and forth from PVG to Guanglan). The other advantage of taking metro is that you will have a seat for the entire journey (~ 70 minutes) rather than fighting the locals for a space when you would get on after taking the Maglev train to Longyang.

Room Tip: I would recommend not getting the 'economy' room as it does not have a window nor did it com...

The Ruitai Jingan Hotel is in a great location and it isn't very expensive by Shanghai standards. It is right by a Subway stop (W Nanjing RD--go out #1 exit and turn right or #4 exit and turn left). It also is on a pedestrian street with lots of restaurants, including western ones (Carl's JR, Subway, Starbucks, Papa Johns, Krispie Kreme...)

So the location is a big plus.

The room was also large with a nice TV. I stayed in a "deluxe room", which didn't have a view, just frosted windows next to a wall.

The bathroom reminded me of bathrooms in less expensive hotels like Comfort Inns. Also, as other reviews have noted, the breakfast isn't anything to write home about. The selection of western food was a bit limited, but they had cereal. The bacon/sausage was cool and the OJ was typical bad OJ in China. On the other hand, there are convenience stores nearby and you can buy OJ to put in the refrigerator in your hotel room.

Will I stay there again? Probably. I have other hotels I like a lot better, but they cost twice as much and are in a less user-friendly location.

I was staying here almost a week during a business trip and was very happy to found this hotel. It's pricing is pretty affordable compared to others and the service is good.

My room had around 20 meters wide window with a view to the hotel entrance and the walking street. It's near the malls and even near international restaurants and pubs. I liked the breakfast and didn't get bored even after 5 mornings. Would stay here again if going to Shanghai.
