“Gym is awful”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2012

Gym is stinky and moldy. Most of the machines are old and rusty. The aircon does not work. There are two thread mill which are squeaky. No cold water and towel. The swimming pool is olympic size decent towel and warm shower. You need to bring your own shampoo.

Room Tip: Room with a garden view is excellent

Cypress Hotel is good enough for what it is intended and brief business stays as it is at a convenient location for HongQiao airport/train stations.

The hotel however is not geared however for international business travellers and is more focused on the local clients. It has beautiful gardens and is a great venue for marrying couples holding their wedding ceremonies there.

Room Tip: If you arrive in Shanghai late and need to catch an early flight / train it is worth staying there...

Nice Business Hotel near Airport Hongqiao and high speed train station.
Clean and spacious rooms, however the furniture could be renewed once ...
There is a large pool in the hotel and you could even walk a little bit in the hotel garden.

Room Tip: Ask for garden view

3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2009

The Cypress hotel is an old style hotel converted for conference and meeting facilities. I was very aprehensive as have mainly stayed in down town - Sheraton or Marriot hotels in China. This was a welcome surprise with deluxe rooms giving a large queen bed, sitting area, desk, dressing area and bathroom. The staff understood basic English and were very helpful; I would not recommend the European food (not good!) but dine in the Jasmine restaurant - great Chinese food at fair prices.
OK hotel in a middle class suburb of Shanghai...

My company often puts us up at this hotel, since it's near the airport and our office, but those are really the only two advantages of the place. The rooms are only average, the food is poor, the location is awful (it's nowhere near anything, so you have to take a cab to go to meals), and the service is rock bottom. And the gym is awful. And most of the restaurants are never open.

Overall hotel stay was just OK. Reception area speaks decent English, beds are small, tap water is not drinkable, restaurants are not great, but the garden area would be nice in the summer.

Would I stay here again? Probably not unless the price was great.

A basic hotel, not ideal for international business travellers. The staff were very friendly and helpful, but language was an issue and service level mediocre. The facilities were very disappointing. There was no heating for the first 2 days, rather chilly for winter! The fitness facilities are being renovated, but are poor quality. The pool is fabulous for lane swimming, yet facilities are dated, and just moderately clean. The restaurant facilities are extremely limited and it is atleast a 20 min taxi to downtown.
