I returned to the Grand Hyatt in Shanghai for the third time this April, staying as always in a Grand Suite, and was again overwhelmed:
The room is spacious and very well equipped (heated bathroom mirror and shaving mirror in the shower, to give just one example), and offers splendid views of the city.
It should be noted that the hotel reception is on floor 54 of the Jin Mao Tower, and when you go up to your room, you'll walk to it inside a huge atrium that spans up to floor 86 of that skyscraper, so you're sure to have a great view on whatever floor you are.
But the best views are from the Grand Club on the 83rd floor, where a great free breakfast and a variety of small cold and warm (the hot menu changes daily) are served along with an excellent selection of beers, wines and spirits (or choose the Cocktail of the Day if you like ...). All of that is served with much attention to detail by the club's staff who will remember personal preferences the next day, in a very set back and relaxed atmosphere - not at all the busy club lounge crowd found in other Hyatt hotels. Everything feels very exclusive.
Grand Club access comes along with the suite, and the best way to get one at a very reasonable price is to book a standard room early, while rates are still reasonable, and use Hyatt Goldpassport points to upgrade it to a suite.
It is the Grand Club that will make me return to the Grand Hyatt, and not choose the Park Hyatt next door or the Hyatt Regency across the river on the Bund: You can sit back and relax, and enjoy the sunset over the great city of Shanghai which is literally at your feet. What a feeling!
I should add that the Jin Mao Tower is a landmark that is very well located in Shanghai (a huge city), great shopping and restaurants are within walking distance. And virtually every taxi driver will understand the name 'Jin Mao', no need to carry a card with a return address in Chinese ..
