“Shanghai at your Feet”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2013

I returned to the Grand Hyatt in Shanghai for the third time this April, staying as always in a Grand Suite, and was again overwhelmed:

The room is spacious and very well equipped (heated bathroom mirror and shaving mirror in the shower, to give just one example), and offers splendid views of the city.

It should be noted that the hotel reception is on floor 54 of the Jin Mao Tower, and when you go up to your room, you'll walk to it inside a huge atrium that spans up to floor 86 of that skyscraper, so you're sure to have a great view on whatever floor you are.

But the best views are from the Grand Club on the 83rd floor, where a great free breakfast and a variety of small cold and warm (the hot menu changes daily) are served along with an excellent selection of beers, wines and spirits (or choose the Cocktail of the Day if you like ...). All of that is served with much attention to detail by the club's staff who will remember personal preferences the next day, in a very set back and relaxed atmosphere - not at all the busy club lounge crowd found in other Hyatt hotels. Everything feels very exclusive.

Grand Club access comes along with the suite, and the best way to get one at a very reasonable price is to book a standard room early, while rates are still reasonable, and use Hyatt Goldpassport points to upgrade it to a suite.

It is the Grand Club that will make me return to the Grand Hyatt, and not choose the Park Hyatt next door or the Hyatt Regency across the river on the Bund: You can sit back and relax, and enjoy the sunset over the great city of Shanghai which is literally at your feet. What a feeling!

I should add that the Jin Mao Tower is a landmark that is very well located in Shanghai (a huge city), great shopping and restaurants are within walking distance. And virtually every taxi driver will understand the name 'Jin Mao', no need to carry a card with a return address in Chinese ..

I had a wonderful stay once again at the Grand Hyatt in Pudong once again. The staff are ueberfriendly and read your every need off your mind. When something takes a bit longer than ultrafast they apologize - when you would not even expect an apology yet. The service in all outlets is impeccable and you feel not only like a valued customers, but at home. Since having witnessed the opening of this Hotel more than a decade ago it continues to be my favourite place to stay in Shanghai, which has never missed a beat. I have tried many others but non reach the same level of comfort and professionalism. They advised me they are currently overhauling all their rooms (half finished) - so try to go for one of the newly renovated ones.

Room Tip: lower floors currently renovated already (if you consider floors 55-75 being low...)

The Grand Hyatt in Shanghai is by far my favorite hotel in China. I have stayed here 5 times in the last two years. The hotel setup is amazing especially if you can get on of the higher floors; 86 for example will give you amazing views. The rooms are exceptionally done for a Grand Hyatt and stand out as one of the top Hyatt rooms I have stayed at around the world. The pool and spa area are one of the highlights for this location and I have spent many of my trips unwinding in the steam rooms and saunas once my business meetings were complete.

Room Tip: Try for the highest floor you can get; 80 or above.

I didn't stay here however took advantage of the amazing 88th floor. It costs 100 yen to get in,however a nice drink is included, so you can sip a nice gin or wine, whilst enjoying the stunning view. Worth every cent. The staff are totally accomodating too!

My stay at Grand Hyatt was excellent! The staff was helpful and roomservice was over the top. You should try the bar Cloud 9 if you stay here. It is located at at the very of Jin Mao Tower. I highly recommend you to try the gym as well. Try a run on one of their high tech treadmill while having the best view of the Bund. The only negativ thing about the room here is the bed. It is unfortunately a bit hard, which you don not expect when you choose to stay at a 5 star hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor facing the river, but not the new Shanghai Tower as it will block your view f...

In general i have noticed that I tend to complain quite often about the hyatt brand on tripadvisor. I realise though that the reason I do this is because i so often stay at hyatt in shanghai - in fact in all three of the offerings they have there. And the reality is that these three hotels (hyatt on the bund, park and grand hyatts) are all very good hotels, and so hyatts in the US just cant compare (although i believe they should try).
This hotel is the second best of the hyatts in shanghai. it is more expensive than hyatt on the bund but in my opinion strictly worse than that hotel. It does have nice rooms and a very high view but still i always prefer to stay in the hyatt on the bund because of location and price. This is still a better bet than the park hyatt though and you can sometimes get very good deals on price.
You can ask for a dvd player in the room and the room has all you would expect. The bathrooms are very good with separate bath and shower as is standard in all three hotels and the staff are veyr helpful. The club lounge is also very good.
Overall if you cant stay at the hyatt on the bund its worth staying here.
