“Seasoned with Elegance, Grace and Memories”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2011

This is the place you find the essence of classiness and sophistication that only time can sculpt. The refinement is not reflected from the flashy and shining emptiness of other new high-rises, but from its condensation of polished services and solidly grounded confidence that presented before you. The breakfast has more than 50 kind of delicacies including Swiss cheese, French croissant, traditional Shanghai steam buns (小笼包) and pickles that I missed for many years.

We checked in from the executive floor. The executive lounge server free drinks and cocktails for free. The hotel location is close to the former French concession area, where we walked to enjoy the unique architectures and ever changing daily life of the local residents.

We had a great hair styling experience in the hotel. The stylist recommended totally different but very trendy Asian style that we don't see in the States. We carried the new cuts to our trip to Hong Kong and felt fit in very well. We educate our stylist back in the States to throw the buzzers and pick up scissors.

The greatest experience came from the its health club. Our fatigue and soreness from the walking all soaked away in the gigantic Jacuzzi pool, wet and dry sauna rooms. The cold drink with lemon cut wake me up from the heated indulgence.

BTW, there are many flight crews with Australian accent stay here. We look forward to the next trip and definitely recommend this hotel to others to stay.

I've stayed here twice in the past few years, both times traveling with my partner on visits to her extended family in this fantastic metropolis. The first of these visits was in May, 2009 when we stayed in an updated King suite. Fantastic shower, comfy sheets, new flatscreen, clean carpets, everything was right on the money. Our second visit was last October when we squeezed in a visit to the Expo as well as a two-day seaside excursion to a Buhddist (?) island retreat. Our room at the Shanghai Hilton on the October visit was a different story. It could best be described as "shabby chic" if not downright dingy. It looked as if it had not been renovated in a decade. The washroom was one degree removed from claustrophobic and the carpets looked nasty. But the worst part of our stay happened when I grabbed one of the guest robes hanging in the closet. In the interest of civility I'll avoid offending this website's readers by simply saying that there are some things that even dark blue bathrobes cannot conceal. Note to Shanghai Hilton: Your housekeepers (sometimes) suck!

Room Tip: Insist on a recently renovated room.

The Hilton, despite being a bit old, is still one of my favorite hotels in Shanghai. Service is always excellent, especially if you are a HH member. I frequently receive upgrades. The renovated rooms are nice.

One of the main reasons I often choose the Hilton is the excellent gym and spa, with great sauna's and a large jacuzzi. Also, of all the hotel's I have been they have one of the best breakfasts. On the downside, it's often a bit pricey compared to the competition.

Lovely, air-conditioned and clean property located about a five minute walk from the Jian Temple metro. Excellent concierge staff.

Room Tip: We booked on line as Hilton Honors members and did not choose the cheapest room.

Unless you have to stay here because it's where the company puts you on business, STAY AWAY. Hotel is old, tired and in need of a MAJOR renovation. Tattered rugs, worn furnishings, lighting in rooms and bathroom is very dim. No wireless internet in floors above 8 (?), rooms have no mini bar (even if you don't drink, it's nice to have a cod soda), no iron, no alarm. Wireless is USELESS. Coffee shop downstairs sells only one size coffee - absolutely TINY, probably 6 ounces. And everything costs a fortune. STAY AWAY. Hilton should be ashamed of this one.

We visited the Hilton Shanghai in June 2011. It appears that the hotel caters more to business travelers than tourists. As a tourist hotel, the location is not good. The hotel neighborhood has little of interest, and it is at least 20 to 25 minutes from the Bund area by taxi. There is a subway station after a 10 to 15 minute walk.

The room we were given look very tired and dated. However, it appears that they are renovating the hotel rooms at the present time.

I must say that the service provided at the hotel was excellent; specially the staff at the restaurants. There is free wifi at the lobby.

In summary, wait until the renovations are completed if location is not you main criteria when selecting a hotel.

I do appreciate for your compliment on hotel staff service especially for restaurant service as it's the key element to create the "home" feeling. Your great comments will motivate us to moveforwards our service to another level and remains.

As your comments, we do have some renovated floor rooms and will be undergoing other floor renovation in our yearly plan. The aim is to create and provide the most best hotel facilities to accommodate our clients here.

In additional, we do appreciate and surely concern over all valuable comments raised and the necessary actions will be taken. I personally would like to welcome you back again in the near future if possible with the warmest regards.
