“The very best view of Shanghai1”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2014

I just spent 2 weeks at the JW Marriott in Shanghai. It was my 6th stay at this hotel. I keep returning to this hotel (after trying others on Nanjing Rd) because the view of Shanghai is breath-taking, the hotel is super clean, the breakfast buffet has the most tantalizing choice of delicious food (assortment of fresh fruit juices everyday), the staff super friendly. The asian fresh flower arrangements in lounges, lobbies and on tables are not only spectacular but reflect great attention to detail. On business trips, this place is truly a home away from home (the executive suites are perfectly equipped).

We are delighted that you choose our hotel to serve as your 'home away from home' in Shanghai. Thank you for commenting positively on your breakfast dining experiences in our Marriott Cafe, and our kitchen team will continue to serve a variety of fresh fruit juices to enhance your morning routine. Additionally, we are pleased that the fresh orchid arrangements which line our Lobby area catch your attention and add some 'color' to your visits with us! Please feel free to contact me prior to your next stay. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

As always, the staff at this hotel is exceptionally friendly. I highly recommend booking a high floor room as the night views, provide not too much smog, are great. If you have the option as for any room ending in "08." It is a corner room that is larger than most. The only drawback about the room is the condition of the shower stall: it smells like mold - not a very pleasant odor to step into in the morning - the from could use better ventilation and the a/c could be better responsive to preferred temp. This explains the 4-star rating rather than 5.

The breakfast buffet at the lounge is a great amenity; as the chef for your eggs (no visible station) and he/she will be delighted to accommodate.

Will return without hesitation.

We appreciate your nice comments regarding friendliness among our hotel associates! Additionally, other travelers may benefit from your suggestion to request higher level rooms which provide enhanced views of the Shanghai skyline after dark. Fortunately, a great view is hard to miss as all of our hotel guestrooms are located above the 38th floor! Lastly, our kitchen team is delighted that you enjoyed the breakfast buffet at Marriott Cafe. We hope to welcome you back for a second serving!

Great hotel, lovely lobby and great view from the corner high level rooms. I had breakfast in-room-service and although expensive, it was really great and the staff took a lot of care to make sure the food was well presented. The rooms are well maintained and exceptionally clean. The gym is good although I'd have liked a few spinning machines and more upright bikes to allow cyclists to keep training whilst travelling. The staff were all great except in the business centre we weren't really helped. The internet should be free I think in the business centre, if there is free wifi across the building. Or perhaps the first ½ hour, for if people just want to check email quickly. The apples left in the room is a nice touch, as is the paper on the door. Easy check in and out.

Room Tip: Corner rooms can offer a view of the Bund and of the city itself

The location of this hotel is perfect - alongside the People's Square and gardens! The service is excellent, just what one expects from the JW Marriott. Check-in is quick and efficient, with helpful staff at every stage of the lobby. Unfortunately I found the hotel to be quite expensive when compared with similar standar hotels in the same area of Shanghai. The rooms are very well equipped with great views irrespective of room location. The gym appears to have been recently revamped (or it is always kept in great condition) with ample equipment for all exercise types.

We stayed at JW Marriot apartments during our stay in shanghai for work, they have excellent rooms with comfortable stays. the tower itself is iconic and is visible from a distance. And the location on the Nanjing west road makes more appropriate for the stay in Shanghai.
We stayed for around 4 weeks and during this time we used the room service as well as the 360 Cafe. Thought the room service items were good and tasted well, our experience with 360 cafe was not the same, we ordered thrice from 360 cafe and were disappointed every time so the that can be avoided during the stay.
But other wise the stay is very comfortable. Huge gym with sauna and steam is worth utilizing everyday. also they have an indoor and outdoor pool for swimming enthusiasts.

We stayed here in April 2013. We'd come to see the Chinese F1 Grand Prix. We got a lovely 3 bedroomed serviced apartment. I was with my brother and sister. I took them out and I got the smallest room. My sister had the biggest. My brother had the second biggest. Life is unfair, isn't it? :) We had a great time. Big lounge. Big dining area. Big kitchen. Big bathrooms. Brilliant service. Great washing machines. I think the price we paid was almost equivalent to the price of one of the bigger rooms at the main hotel. They are nicely linked. One building. We'd go and have breakfast and dinner at the main hotel. I absolutely enjoyed our stay here. If you are going as a group, this is the place for you. There is a park across the road. Lovely for a morning run. Lots of shopping on Nanjing Road. In fact, if you are fit enough or have ample time walk all the way until you get to The Bund. Nice orientation of Shanghai.

Room Tip: Go for the apartments!

Right from the start, this is a GREAT hotel! The hotel is very clean, up to date and in a great location of the city. The staff is unbelievable - friendly and helpful in every way. I travel a lot, and this may be the best service I've experienced.

Great view from the lobby, of which you can see the Bund.

People's square is just across the street. If you happen to be in Shanghai on Sunday, you must visit People's square and the "love market". Very interesting and entertaining.

The metro is just across the street as well and the Bund is only a short 20 minute walk from the hotel.

You will be very pleased with this hotel. Get ready to experience great service. This will definitely be my place to stay when I return to Shanghai.
