I was been here in December 2013. During Christmas and New year eve. Place so nice with big Christmas tree. Room is warm and well for sleep I love shampoo and shower Gel is from branded company. Nice for vacation with family.

Room Tip: ask city view of nanjing lu is better

Stayed in one of the club rooms here so get the use of the top level free dining and drink between 5-7 I think it was - which is a good thing. But once we were heavily overcharged for our rooms the staff argued with us for an hour or so and wouldn't refund us. Eventually after making a scene and raising our voices they did. They were completely useless. For such a large hotel I thought they would have been a bit more professional and knowledgeable but they definitely weren't.

I can only give this hotel 3 stars despite its good location and good rooms. The management needs to know that their staff have a great impact on the hotel - especially the registration staff. I have never experienced such inefficiency and inconsistency in all my hotel stays. Having just stayed 2 nights at the fantastic Sofitel Westlake Hangzhou, our family of 8 was looking forward to staying at Sofitel Hyland. We had booked 4 rooms for 2 nights each. When we approached registration, the lady at the reception took our papers without a welcome greeting or a smile. In fact she did not smile at us at all the entire time and we were quite shocked by her cold and unfriendly manner. After a very long time, we suggested that she ask her colleagues to help her since she seem to have problems registering our rooms. We saw that her colleagues had already finished registering other guests. We insisted and finally another lady came and gave her some guidance. She then handed cards to us but we realized that she only registered us for one night each. On our pointing this out, she did the 2nd night registration and eventually after a long time, we went to our rooms. The rooms are okay - clean and reasonably quiet. Toilet is slightly small. Be warned - not all rooms (even on the same floor) are the same. My twin bed was 3 ft each, another room we were given had twin beds of 3.5 ft each. Some toilets have standing shower AND bath tub and one of the rooms given to us just had a bath-tub. The inconsistencies are rather surprising. At night, my family members enquired at registration to ensure our rooms are for 2 nights but were surprised to be told that they were only for one night and we were told to bring our passports again for registration for 2nd night! We were shocked but brought our passports down as told. When we went to the registration, a lady ( this one smiles) did the registration and said passports not required! We were just glad to get this over with!

As it was March, there was still no air conditioning but the fan ventilator function was not working properly. I called housekeeping to send someone to fix it and also asked for thin bedsheets to use as blankets given that the comforters were too warm. The engineer came and quickly fixed the ventilation system but the bedsheets never came.

We went for our welcome drinks (we are all ACCOR members). I can only say that the 2 bar tenders do not know that guests should be greeted with a smile. A smile makes a lot of difference! Instead of making sure we all get seated, they were more interested in collecting our welcome drink coupons first. Needless to say, this is not a pleasant experience. After drinks, we walked past the lobby and saw a man who was drunk and vomiting all over the carpet. He was lying on the sofa in the lobby and vomiting. I was shocked that the staff did not offer to take him to the toilet. A cleaning staff with a bucket and mop was waiting beside him waiting to clean up as he vomited.

Breakfast is the usual international spread.

I just want to add that throughout the stay, I find that the staff at the concierge and the staff at the door are most efficient and pleasant. I try to talk to them more than those at the reception/registration desk.

On the 2nd day, we asked for late check-out and all our rooms got check- out time extended to 1 pm. We were given new keys to make sure they work over the extension period. After 12 noon, when we got back to our rooms, none of our keys worked! We had to hurry down to registration and get new keys!

Will I stay here again? Probably not as I really like a holiday to be happy and pleasant. I can't say I had a pleasant experience in this hotel.

I stay in shanghai very regularly and believe you cant go past the Sofitel on Nanjin road.
Right in the heart, close enough to the Bont. The Airport is about 40 mins and bullet trains about 30 mins usually. They speak great English and generally staff are very friendly. Food is also good. nice enough rooms for the price and location.

Room Tip: Get the club rooms, its only about $20 aud more and it gets you the Club room which has Free drinks...

we had 1 night on 15th March after a cruise. Everything is on the door step. About a 15min walk to bund and 5mins to underground train to opal tower. Rooms were clean lovely walk in rain shower. Breakfast was great. Concierge was very helpful in getting us transport to bullet train as no taxi stops here. Our train tickets were waiting for us at his desk. They all speak pretty good English. Our rooms were ready about 12 so left our luggage locked away while we explored near by. Would love to come back.
