“Good location Nice Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed today NEW

Good Location in the heart of shopping area and close to the Bund. Close to east Nanjing Station.Room are nice but this hotel is different than other Sofitels I ever stayed before.
Our taxi dropped us at below of the driveway at 8 pm, the bell boys didn't help us carry our luggages up to the reception. they're only watching us coming.
The staff weren't even friendly, they're personality are cold.

Stayed with my family in Sofitel Hyland Shanghai from 19-24 dec. Good location. In between 2 train lines and walking distance to The Bund. Housekeeping service was excellent when I requested for additional pillow and a shaver for my husband. But when checking out, the front desk wanted to bill me for a pack of pistachio nuts that we did not consume. Upon hearing we did not eat it. The front desk did not bill me for it. However, the feeling was lousy.

The location straight onto Nazeing road is what makes this a great place to stay. Is only a few meters from the subway system (which is easy to use) and short walk to People's Park in one direction or the Bund in the other direction.
Rooms vary in size but are all comfortable and well appointed. Concierge staff are very helpful and will flag a taxi for you but in rush hour I suggest you use the subway as there will be a long wait for taxis.
If you do need to eat in the hotel the restaurant and even room service are very good.

Located at the best area Nanjing road, once you step out of the lobby level one, you feels like in Time Square of Shanghai, anything can be find here, restaurants, plenty of shopping mall and if you walk to the right about 30 minute you be arrived at The Bund, walking to the right 10 minute there is subway, take the line 2 and stop at first station you will reach the Shanghai TV station Tower and can shop at the Superbrand Mall, very excited.

The Hotel Lobby is huge and fancy, elegant design, luxurious and quite. Very warm welcome from the front desk and super fast check in process. the room is huge and clean, complete amenities at the shower room, high speed of internet . the shower room is separate with bath tub, towels is fresh and clean, we can ask for the drink water bottle for free..

The concierge are very well known and very informative when we ask, speak very well English and friendly. all staff are very nice and help full. I strongly recommend for all traveler especially first time visit, Sofitel Hyland is the best chose

Yuyuan Garden is a bit far from this hotel, but for young peoples, you can walk about 45 minute
Its interesting to look but the snacks is expensive and not delicious at all.

we buy fruits and cake at Nanjing road , lunch at the shopping mall, all are over price. next day we ask the concierge about the location of local people have breakfast, lunch and dinner, and we got some fancy restaurants, the food is nice and inexpensive, 60% lower then eat at the food station shopping mall. there is a nice Noodle house or Dimsum near by Sofitel, walk to the left hand side , across the Hagen Dazz, there is small fruits store, go to next door and go up to second floor, sorry I forgot the name because is in Chinese character . Enjoy your holiday

Room Tip: Higher floor is more quite, but even thought we ask for non smoking room, the corridor still smell s...

Nothing but praise for four-night stay in Sofitel Shanghai Hyland Executive Level room (as recommended by others on TripAdvisor!). Top marks and sincere thanks to hotel for
*early check-in at about 8am following overnight flight from London
*room quality and service
*exceptional buffet breakfast in Mosaic restaurant (look for extensive Chinese food section -- delicious!)
*Executive Level inclusions -- exceptional internet/computer facilities, nice lounge (which I used after noon checkout before departing for evening flight), and unmissable drinks/snacks session 6-8pm, you won't want dinner. Afternoon tea also, if you're interested.
* very helpful Concierge service -- get Hop-on-off bus ticket there (stops nearby), and book excursions for hotel pickup (recommend half-day water-village trip, which for three clients ended up as a car/driver/guide option not a bus)
* totally convenient location -- opens on to Nanking Road, and only about 10min walk in opposite directions to the Bund and People's Square.

Most of all, as a solo traveller I appreciated the security of staying at a top-notch hotel in a city of often-sophisticated scammers...

And a word on the dreaded tea ceremony scam -- which I was watching out for. I had a narrow escape from an episode starting when two well-dressed English-speaking young Chinese girls taking photos asked me to take their picture together then developed a conversation. They purported to be holidaying from elsewhere in China, staying with a sister, and claimed a friend attending a Canberra university. Then asked if I'd like to join them for tea at a nearby place recommended by sister... when we got there, luckily revealed in time as a potentially-outrageously-expensive scam. They were very convincing to get me that far!!

Unlike most Sofitel worldwide, Sofitel Hyland Shanghaï is only rated 4 star. With this in mind, do not expect 5 star service or design and your stay will be more than fine.

The best points: location (although the rush and crowds of East Nanjing Road can soon become hassling), outstanding views from club rooms on upper floors (try to get a Puddong and Huangpu river view), great shower, lobby and common areas, diversity at breakfast and club lounge for generous evening snacks and drinks (staff constantly came with drinks and food), efficient and always willing to help housekeeping (we did not face any problem during the entire duration of our stay) .

The not so good points: except efficient housekeeping and pro active customer service, service overall is poor, especially concierge and all staff at breakfast on floor 2, club room is dated and really needs renovation, poor in room wifi signal, no pool in the hotel and pricey overall.

This is a solid 4 star hotel but somehow below usual Sofitel standards. Key areas of improvements include club rooms that need to be renovated, concierge and breakfast staff.

However, we had a good stay and I would happily recommend to book a club room for business or leisure trips to Shanghaï with no hesitation.

Room Tip: Club rooms are a must. Although they are dated, they afford great views and free access to a great c...
