Great breakfast and friendly service. We hesitantly went with the Club rooms and were pleasant surprised at the service and quality. Handy location to shopping and attractions. Big red tour bus leaves just down the block.

This hotel is in a great location for seeing Shanghai, being located right on the main shopping street. If you are a male alone though be careful to avoid the main street at night as you will get pestered by people offering sex services.

The room I stayed was like a throw back to a 1970s B&B in England, and while clean and having the usual sofitel extras was very tired. It was not a 'club' room which were apparently much more like what you would expect but you needed to pay extra for.

Really sofitel need to get all the rooms changed to 'club' level because even though the room served its purpose I couldn't recommend staying in the level of room I stayed in again, and its a bit of a scam to have such a poor standard of 'average' room.

Stayed at hotel for 5 nights. Chose the club option. Wouldn't normally bother but when i checked the rates before i booked their was only a $50AUS difference between club floor and regular classic room. For the $50 i got a quick check in on level 30. A club room which was well appointed with good amenties and comfortable all round. TV with 6 english channels.Fantastic view overlooking the nanjing road area. The club experience included breakfast on level 30 which was good as the buffet was small but everything you would want really, nice selection of quality food and no line up at all. Also offers nice views of the bund if you get the right seat. Eggs menu also available. Club includes drinks and cheeses, canapes between 6-8pm. Overall Good value as one glass of wine in the hotel will cost you $17 australian and the wines offered at mosiac or the bar are the same varieties/brand you are served at club level. Club did include wifi however was often useless as it was being 'interferred with'. Google made a public statement about that! So trying to communicate via gmail, useless.

Had lunch at mosiac once.Pasta very small portion and pricey but tasted good. Room service menu also offers a lot of variety and healthy options which is rare in many hotels.

Service in hotel generally good and attentive. Did have a massage at the vita spa and enjoyed. Will cost between $100-$130 for 1hr.

Location is very convienient. Easy access to subway and nanjing rd which is tolerable for no more than 2 days, for me anyway, but good to dash out and get a couple of supplies if needed. . There is better shopping elsewhere.

Negative.Smoking is allowed in the hotel. There is smoking/non-smoking but all the same really when in same space. However had no issues with smoke smells in my room at all.

This a big chain experience as you would expect.

The Sofitel Hyland is excellent located, few blocks away from the Bund, and in the middle of main shopping streets. The view from the Club Floor is very nice and Club Lounge staff provided excellent service. Would come back here anytime! (not just because of the free upgrade to a suite)
