“An intriguing side of Shanghai”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2011

We accessed the Shanghai Jewish Refugees Museum through the tour service of Dvir Bar-Gal, http://www.shanghai-jews.com/3.htm. Contact him for reservations. You'll get far more than just the museum - every monument & marker ,much history, as well as (probably) minibus transportation from Peace Hotel. A reasonably-priced tour, & worth every penny. The museum itself is very small: a typical small-museum Holocaust memorial room, but also fascinating exhibits of Shanghai's Jewish pioneers. Ohel Moshe Synagogue is lovely, and part of the museum. The poor Honshou neighborhood around the museum is a real slice-of-life: rich history amid urban poverty. This is for adults/older kids, not for babies.

“Informative, educational and attractive museum and library”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2011

We visited this museum wanting to learn more about the Jewish community that existed in Shanghai during the years before WWII. An English-speaking college student who was a summer volunteer at the museum gave us a personal tour of the site (included in the price of admission). She was able to answer our questions and waited patiently as we looked at the exhibits in the main building and two back buildings as well. Books written by people who lived in the neighborhood and/or have studied the community are for sale at the museum. The entrance fee is 50 RMB but we felt we got more than our money's worth. Take the metro Line 4 to the Dalian Road South stop and walk about two blocks south on Changyang Road to #62.
