“Nice cozy western town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 7, 2015

Located about 1 hour drive from city centre. Nice cozy town. Looking for a parking lot during weekend may be a challenge. Many eateries there, and reasonably priced. Good place for some architecture photography.

“A quiet stroll through little England”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2014

This place is worth a visit with the kids on an afternoon when the city gets too much! Surreal escapism, China-style! Don't expect shops and restaurants but take a packed lunch or picnic and enjoy the architectural efforts that have gone in to making a housing estate feel like a small English market town. Complete with church (larger than we thought it would be) and the requisite photo shoots for weddings etc, are in abundance here. My little girl loved all the princess outfits.
The traffic was kind to us during the October holidays and it only took around 40 minutes to drive out to Songjiang New City.

“Superficial English Experience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2014

As a British guy living in Shanghai, I was curious about this place after seeing it on UK TV a few years ago. Getting there is a bit of a hassle without a car, take subway Line 9 to Songjiang Xincheng, then a taxi ride (about 15RMB). The town was bigger than I expected with an attractive residential area along a canal, where it is easy to imagine you are in middle England, without the ducks. The central area of the town is very faded, however, and could do with some TLC. The town is popular with couples taking wedding photos, but few others. There are a couple of overpriced tea shops which looked nothing special. Most other shops were closed, though there was a decent bookshop with a few students lounging around. Thames Town is worth a visit, though it could be so much better. A good opportunity for a budding entrepreneur. Afternoon tea and cucumber sandwiches anyone?

“Thames Town, Song Jiang, Shanghai, China”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2014

Supposed to look like England. It does, a LITTLE. It isn't really a tourist attraction, it's really just a housing development. Lots of the shops are closed and the few that are there are too expensive for Song Jiang.

Not really worth a visit.

“Quiet place”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2013

A rather deserted and peaceful town out of nowhere in Shanghai. Read up about the town in Wiki and its probably understood why the place is quite a ghost town.

There are numerous shops (food, clothing, wedding boutiques) all around. However, quite a majority of them were closed when I visited. Nothing much to do there except exploring around and taking photos.

Wedding photoshoots were going on everywhere!

Its a good place if you are a fan of europe architecture. Random statues are found too. There is no opening hours or entrance fees like what we thought initially, we mistook it for a park.

To get there, take a cab from one of the Songjiang "...' train stations.
