If you are interested in the history of Shanghai in the 20s and 30s then this small musem in the Fairmont Peace Hotel is a must see. The man in charge of the museum started at the hotel as a bell hop many years ago and can tell many interesting stories in his excellent English. The Fairmont took 3 years to renovate the wonderful old hotel, and it reopened a few years ago in all its art deco glory. The Director of Heritage at the hotel, Jenny, will also take you for a tour of the hotel and show you the old ballroom where the Shanghai elite used to party until dawn. She will tell you some fascinating stories of the previous owner, Sir Victor Sassoon, and what Shanghai was like in the days before the war.
