“What is the food really is?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2012

Maya, located in Julu Rd, is a kind of exotic.. Asian entrance, and a very modern mexican decoration..but the food is very expensive and does not worth to pay that amount of money for it.. Mexican and japanese food altogether is really weird, and does not bring the state of the art of cooking.. There is lack of authencity.. Some of the food tastes good.. But could be much better if they have the right cuisine path..

“Great Mexican Cuisine!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2012

Tucked in a clubhouse of a condominium, this award-winning restaurant was a surprise for me. Very good appetisers and starters, and the main courses are excellent. Wash down your food with a nice passionfruit frozen margarita and a platter of lovely dessert samples. Price is not cheap but at least you are getting the quality.

“Excellent standards now starting to slip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2012

Maya's has developed a deserved reputation for excellent food and service. I have eaten here many times but my most recent visit was disappointing. I got the feeling that the standards of ingredients had been reduced, no doubt overheads at this busy and popular restaurant have risen because of its popularity but the fundamentals should be maintained. One of their signature dishes, spicy roasted beef and potato is normally very dependable and delicious but last vist the beef was tough and I got the impression that the service was slipping.

“Unexpected find in Shanghai - place with great vibe and food with fantastic mix of flavours”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2012

We went on Saturday night. Atmosphere was lively, service good and attentive. Nice selection of wines and tequilas. All dishes had offered imaginative mix of flavours - best of Latin food.
I can especially recommend the duck. But must say it was difficult to pick from the menu as everything sounded and looked very appealing.
Overall - an unexpected find tucked away in a residential block. Attention to detail and brilliant quality in a relaxed atmosphere. None of the flashy pretentiousness of some of the other places in shanghai.

“Very Nice Mexican Restaurant... In Shanghai!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2012

If you can find this place then it will be worth the effort, it is quite hidden in a residential district of Shanghai. Menu is varied, food quality is good, service is good, a little expensive but worth it.
The only down side for me would be the acoustics, frequencies tend to ressonate alot inside the restaurant, this resulted in us being able to hear every one of a certain lady on the other side of the restaurant, no big deal but think it could get quite noisy if busy!
