“It's free, zero distance from local food and traditions”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013

The place is not very big, however it provides variety of many things. For Chinese people it's a place to review traditions while for foreigners, you can have a easy and economic taste of everything.

“Nice little street”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013

This was a fun trip I took with coworkers on the way home from a longer weekend trip. I was a little exhausted but the old town stree was something i had yet to experience here in Shanghai and i found it to be very nice too look around. too many "crap" vendors offering items for way over the price they should be asking. Take a local to buy things for you and you'll get a better deal. just don't let the salesman see the local with you...

“Ugh ... Qibao”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2013

I should qualify this maybe with ... I live in Shanghai and I'm not a "tourist" per se, BUT there are a million other tourist spots I'd hit before Qibao. I think the attraction really is that it's super, super easy to get to because you can take the metro. Qibao is run-down, dirty and something of a tourist trap. Once you're there, you can take a boat ride about 50 feet and back down a dirty, litter-strewn 'canal'. You can eat in a restaurant along the 'canal' and then watch staff wash dishes in the canal before they give you a marked up tourist bill. It's overcrowded and hard to walk and stop and look at anything. There are other water towns outside of Shanghai that are better, but if you don't have time you can spend half a day in Qibao and tick 'ancient water town' off your list.

“Qidao”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2012

Hello, Well for all of you who are visiting Shanghai a must see place too see is Qibao. Its very easy to get to off the subway line 9 off the Qibao stop. And from their is a quick 10 minute walk...
Once your their you will have afew things to see and do. Theirs alot of shops, street food vendors, resturants,a Temple and of coarse the bridges and boats that remind me of Venice,Italy that brought me here to visit.
Its a good way to spend afew hours to enjoy the local food, shop for gifts and practice your bargaining skills and take some of Shanghai's hidden treasures. And on the weekends it can get alittle crowded but its still worth the trip...Have Fun!

“Nice spot of "old China" in Shanghai”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2012

A beautiful little spot where the "old china" is preserved, beautiful architecture, canals, interesting shops where you can see "typical" Chinese goods.

There are many water towns in China which is much better than this little spot (as Zhou Zhuang 1 hour drive from Shanghai) but if you do not have time to visit them, I can recommend Qibao.
From "The Bund" to Qibao you pay approx. 70 RMB (12 USD) for a taxi. You can safely use taxis in Shanghai, I've done it many times without any problems with cheating. They use ALWAYS their meter and you get a receipt and there is no tradition for tips in China. All in all a god and cheap way to get around.
