“Something a bit different when staying in Shanghai”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2013 via mobile

I've stayed in various hotels in shanghai and I was looking for something a bit quieter and as this was to be my base for a few days I wanted something a bit different and something that catered a little bit more for western visitors. The staff spoke good English and were very helpful. Rooms were very smart and spacious with a well equipped bathroom and tea making facility. Breakfast was very good although it closed a little early for me on the Saturday meaning I missed breakfast because of my need for a moderate lie in (I was down for breakfast at 10:00am). I thought this a little early for a weekend. However Sunday I made sure I arrived in plenty of time and enjoyed a really good breakfast with plenty of choice. However just as I was enjoying my second cup of coffee the staff told me the restaurant was closing and I had to leave. Again it was only 10:00am on a Sunday morning. I slept really well and felt very comfortable with the hotel layout and atmosphere. I paid 500 RMB per night (around £52:00 per night) so I must say it represented excellent value. I would have given it an excellent rating but for the breakfast etc but when I return to shanghai again in October I will definitely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone looking for something a bit different in Shanghai city centre

I thought this hotel was as good as any business hotel I've stayed in, in the east or west, and should satisfy most people's standards very well. I stayed here as part of a trip with a lot of extended family, and while everyone had a different room, everyone's was of the same high quality. In other words, there are no "dark corners" in this hotel. Everything was very clean, and the rooms were spacious and well appointed. The elevators were very fast and modern but they work differently than ones in the U.S. You have to pick the elevator that is closest to the floor you're on. It's actually efficient. The gym is small (two treadmills, two ellipticals) but they have new machinery and TVs. Breakfast was included in my price, and it was a truly glorious spread, everything from a waffle bar, noodle bar and egg bar, to Chinese porridge, soy milk, lots of veggies in both Eastern and Western style, sausages, and even some European dishes like smoked salmon. The hotel concierge was very hospitable, and was happy to book my airport transportation with a reputable cab driver, much better than trying to hail one on the street. Wifi is only available in the lobby or on the lower floors. I was able to catch a signal as far up as the 6th floor, so if wifi is important to you, ask for a lower floor.

Room Tip: Ask for a lower floor (6th floor or lower) for a better chance at getting a wifi signal.

Everything a business hotel should be, except that it didn't have guaranteed wifi in the room, only a wired connection, which was an issue for me as a macbook air user. However, they do have wifi in the lobby, and between that and the weak connection that I did find on my floor, I got what I needed done, done.

As mentioned by others, elevator access was a bit slow at times, so if you're on a lower floor, you'll may be faced with fully loaded elevators coming down in the morning.

Location for me was outstanding, as I prefer riding the metro rather than battling traffic during the rush hour. The line goes north and connects to a couple of other major lines and I was always within 15 minutes of where I needed to go.

Not sure about someone's comment about no commercial life on the block. There's several modern casual restaurants right next door, and a 24 hour convenience store as well. One of the restaurants was a Korean place, another was a major noodle chain, and there was a chinese-western bakery as well.

Only thing preventing me giving the fifth star is the price. I got a deal on a chinese discount site and paid less than RMB400 for the promotion nights, but the regular price was over RMB 800, which would be more than I'd want to spend.

Booked this hotel for the second time in Shanghai, but this time with the 'Business Suite" category.
The hotel room was very spacious. The bedroom and the sitting room, both sufficiently big.

Pros: The hotel is just above "Dongan Road" Metro Station, and two small restaurants below it. The fruit grocer is a walking distance. At a walk of 5 mins, you can reach "Carrefaur" and "Mc Donalds". The place is about 10 minutes taxi ride to "The Bund" , or the pub district of "Xintiandi"

The breakfast is one of the most spread in the category of a apartment type hotel. The rooms also have a small kitchenette, the utensils can be requested on room service and one can cook for himself if so desired.

Even the bathrooms are very big and decorated well to give a luxurious feeling. In the business suite, one could find sufficient wardrobe space, iron board, iron, ipad dock, work desk, bedside rest porch etc.

Express check-in, and express check-out, the staff was very helpful.

Cons:
The hotel does not have a wifi facility in the rooms, so smartphones and ipads go for a waste. Even the cabled internet was showing fluctuations in connectivity.
The shower pod was broken, and had to be called for repair.
The induction hob in the kitchen did not work, Microwave was slightly small in size. The basic cutlery should be always provided in all the rooms.
The hotel does not have a swimming pool :(

All in all a good stay and a stay where one can look forward to return.

Room Tip: Rooms on floor 21-25 have a special elevator :)

No doubt about it being 4 stars but there are draw backs. First you are about 20 minutes away from the commercial and financial center of the city. the block it is on has almost no commercial life.
Plus, breakfast is $21 if you didn't include it in your booking. (However, there are two self service restaurants and a pastry shop right next door) An added bonus is that you are only one block away from two subway lines. (7 & 4) Most trips are 66 cents.
When you exit the room you must take the magnetic room card with you which disconnects the electricity to the room, meaning no air or heat while you are gone, and the room can be uncomfortably hot or cold when you return.
I got a great price $55 which outweighed the disadvantanges for a 4 star hotel.

I spent a bit more than three weeks. I had a room at the back of the hotel, overlooking a small garden, which was quiet. The rooms are of decent size and the beds very very comfortable. Clean and modern and I found the staff, accommodating. Breakfast was fine, but the elevators at rush time can be slow as pointed out by other reviewers. As also pointed out the "lounge" is not so inviting. I found these all to be minor issues. After reading some of these reviews, I anticipated this being a terrible hotel, but was pleasantly surprised, particularly given the price. I stayed in far more expensive and much grungier hotels in China. It is a bit far from tourist sites, but you get a better feel of "real" Shanghai, by wandering around the streets in the neighborhood.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the garden

Stayed here for 4 nights total ie 2 nights at the beginning of our tour and 2 nights at the end. Had two very different types of room. Initially we had a spacious room with Sofa and kitchenette area which was at the front of the hotel . Latterly we had a much smaller room at the side of the hotel, however this was much quieter. Breakfast was fine with an overspill room when it gets busy. Slow check in and no facility for exchanging travellers cheques however there is a machine in the lobby for converting currency ( cash) Obtain code from reception for free wifi in lobby.
