We took the high speed train from Shanghai to Beijing, starting from this station. It is absolutely enormous and seems new - a great place to spend some time if you have to wait for public transportation. Much more spacious than an airport, tons of space to sit or walk around, many shops, and many coffee outlets. The train information is provided in English so it was pretty easy to navigate; we had bought tickets in advance so all we had to do was show the tickets to people and they pointed us to the right places. There is a luggage xray as soon as you enter the station and although it is organized okay, I imagine the lines might be long at some times of day so be sure to leave enough time for that.
