“Comfortable and close to Pudong”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2013 via mobile

This hotel is located just 15 minutes away from the airport. A shuttle is offered to take you from and back to the airport. The unfriendly neighborhood that surrounds it is certainly not preparing you for the well renovated building which happens to be a totally non smoking facility (yes you've heard correct, this happens in China where people still smoke in the elevators). The 4 star hotel has a friendly lobby lounge - bar and at the same level you can visit the restaurant for an a la cart dinner. The U.S fillet is certainly a must to try, maybe combined with a bottle of the German white wine they have in their list. The room is really clean and the reading light would probably worth to steal as it stands on the bed as a piece of exquisite modern art. You can forget it though because it is grounded on the drawer ( probably others thought about it before we did). Two more innovative ideas : the " please wait a minute" button by your side in the WC ( it really helps when the maid knocks your door and you're using the bathroom). Also , the " atomization glass" button which either makes you obvious or hides you through the window that separates the bathroom from the bedroom. So, in case you wanna watch your small children while they are taking a bath, you deactivate it and so on... Cool hah? Before getting in the shuttle bus back to the airport , make sure your luggage is IN it. To help those who are willing to make an overseas trip to Shanghai , choose between the star alliance airways and not between those of the sky team , as the former departs from terminal 2 and the latter from terminal 1. The business class lounge of Lufthansa for example is open around and much more pleasant than the one of air France which is absolutely unacceptable as a closed around set up with shut downed windows and uncomfortable chairs, fast food looking wraps on the cold sandwiches and heavily humid atmosphere. If you're paying business class that's not what you should get. Can't really forget , 3 months ago, leaving from Shenyang airport for Frankfurt: every single shop was closed by eight o'clock (pm), and lights were down in such a way we thought there was a strike. Until a little before midnight , we checked in LH's counters, looking forward to get to the business lounge to grab something to eat. Well, guess what: the doors of the lounge were locked and a security officer told us that "the staff was at home sleeping..." "No way Hosé", I said. Fifteen minutes later, two young ladies wearing air-hostess ' uniform (can't remember which company's) opened the lounge for us ( and for other 30 passengers). There was not really fresh meal to eat expect for some rice that didn't really look good on first sight ( neither on second...). Some coffee and a few crunchy chocolates did the trick. So, there's always worse than you can think of ... If you have to get a connect flight at CDG airport , make sure you get enough time as the shuttles you get on to change terminals come by every 15-20 minutes and the lines are endless...

My typical "pre-departure" hotel for the last couple years. All-in-all I will continue to consider this my "PVG area hotel". Happy surprise: seem to focus on bldg./room maintenance. VERY nice facilities - if a bit too "gadgety". Room cleanliness is better than most. Staff are often awkward and sometimes seems suspicious about guests (maybe because typical 1 night stays?) The night check-in staff miscommunicated airport shuttle departure this time. At check-out shuttle gone. I took taxi instead.. 58RMB & 10 mins. Tip: get shuttle departure time in writing during check-in/shuttle-scheduling - & account for 5~10+minutes for check-out process if line of people. My shower head fell from holder and broke ~10 minutes after I took shower. Accident. In good faith I explained this during check-out. They almost held my deposit. Unfortunate accident, but shower design issue - not mine. That & shuttle aggravated. Dinner/Breakfast buffet are decent. Will likely be back: good value/$$ & proximity to PVG.

A perfect hotel!! Very huge and beautiful! Rooms equipped with everything you need! It is in middle of no where...technically close to the airport, yes it is! but had nothing around and the neighbourhood is a bit dodgy... so if you do not mind staying in the hotel..as in the late nights are not very advisable...take a taxi from the train station if needed, it is 10 min walking from the hotel...

Highly recommended!

Stayed here twice for 1 night each coz of a next day flight! Would love to stay here again. Took taxis to go to the city and taxi from the hotel to Bund cost us 160 yuan.

Excellent staff and stunningly done hotel lobby. There are a multiple of restaurants but they close early so check. We only had one option after 9PM and the food choices were limited.

Also stayed in Hilton, Guangzhou, recently and this hotel is definitely at the same level.

Wifi only in the lobby - the only downside.

The rooms have automatic switches for everything like the lights, curtains etc. The bathroom had a huge bathtub with a small TV, also the bathroom had transparent walls so you could see the room TV as well. The transparent wall can be turned to a opaque one with a switch!! Minibar, reading desk, couch etc etc... there was everything in the room!!

Definitely recommend it!!!

Room Tip: choose a higher floor as the wall is of transparent glass, there are curtains there, but just to enk...

Stumbled across this hotel on my way through Shanghai. I wanted something close to the airport. It is about 10 minutes away. Very luxurious with outstanding amenities. Great value by western standards . A room like mine would cost $500-600 in New York or San Francisco. I paid $120! Just ultra clean very new and very well run

I thought we couldnt top the Shanghai Grand Mercure Hotel (I couldnt review it because it didnt come up in search) but this hotel did. The foyer was very impressive with marble walls etc. The staff coudnt have been friendlier. Every day of our 4 days there they always smiled and opended the doors for us. The room was ample large and lovely with a mirror tv in the bathroom. Fantastic shower, great bed. Paid a refundable deposit for a router to use Wifi.. worked well. had a desk with all the adaptors you needed for cameras, phones, DVD players. Even had a decent hairdryer. All the usual shampoos along with shaver, toothbrush, sewing kit. Breakfast was ample with a good variety. Went for a walk around the streets and its a very old part of Shanghai but interesting also has some convenience stores. Found the train station about 10 minutes away also found the Lotus shopping centre and the Pudong Shopping centre that had good restuarants of Chinese and McDonalds along with some good shops and supermarkets. We took the train to Shanghai 3 days and once you learn the system its a good way to get around.. also very cheap. Its 14 stops to Shanghai that is very quick. When we came back to the hotel at night we took a Taxi from the train station that was only 14RMB one way. We had a pleasant stay and would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: Our room was very quiet

I have stayed at the Royal international 3 times now, and the reason why I have chosen to come back is it is close to the factory I work with, and reasonably priced with nice rooms.
My resent stay is though probably what will not make me wanna stay there next time I come to Shanghai. I booked a NON smoking twin room, but was put in a smoking room, an asthma persons nightmare. When we asked to change rooms we were told that there were no non-smoking rooms free. We were told we would get one larger non smoking the day after, but when we came to swap the same thing happened. So, we had to stay in a smoking room, on a smoking floor- 2nd floor if I remember right, the whole stay, I felt horrible and regret not complaining or leaving to another hotel.

What I liked:
-Price is reasonable for room size and quality
-Rooms are nice and nicely furnished (if you get what you had booked...)
-Lovely, smiling and helpful staff working in the breakfast/main restaurant. One of them even helped me logging into the internet by using her own phone number.
-Other staff helpful, sometimes too much.

What I didn´t like:
- Got a smoking room when ordered non smoking
- Bathtub leaking, water all over the floor
- No minibar in our room
- Room service food, no way as good as it was the first time I stayed.
- Some of the staff speak poor English...
- You have to wear a swim-head cover if you wanna use the pool... (and buy it there not so cheap as most people dont travel with their own or even wear them) I never even put my everyday washed hair into the pool water. This stopped me from using the pool, which I have used before and I liked it that time.
- There is no outdoor area where people can sit down, enjoy the weather or relax.

I booked this hotel as it states that it is near Pudong International Airport. It's not - it was still a 20 minute drive in the morning to the airport. Hotel though is lovely with great rooms and great features in the rooms. Positives - Great Hotel, good rooms with comfy bedding and very technologically advanced e.g. electric curtains and blinds, and tv in bathroom. Negatives - very poor understanding of English, NOT CLOSE TO AIRPORT, Not much around in the way of things to do at night and room service food arrived cold.
