“Impeccable service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013 via mobile

I arrived pretty early and thought I may not get to check in. To my pleasant surprise, I was not only given my room, but because they ran out of non-smoking rooms I got a free upgrade!

The suite was wonderful. Comfy bed, huge bathtub and spacious living area.

The bellboy was very polite, professional and helpful with communicating with cab drivers.

A wonderful stay!

Stayed for several days during a trip to China. Found the hotel to be very clean, comfortable, with a great staff to help. English was very well spoken. Free internet and reasonably fast. Nice pool and exercise room. Breakfast is outstanding but make sure you get it as part of the room. Otherwise you will pay a huge amount. Dinner was expensive and not that good. There are so many local restaurants at 1/3 the price- and better. However, its a great place to use as a base for your site seeing.

This was certainly an excellent hotel. The public areas were big and comfortable with plenty of seating, a shop, a restaurant and bar area. Free wifi was available here but not in the rooms. The public areas were cooled with the air on (except at 4am when we checked out). It was a short walk to a number of well known fast food establishments.

The room was very big and comfortable with great beds, desk, chairs, desk etc. There was a reasonable view from the window. The bathroom was big with a lovely walk-in shower with a very powerful shower unit and a little seat/shelf. There is a Perspex screen between the bedroom and shower but there is a blind you can pull down for privacy. The toiletries were really nice.

Breakfast was excellent but quite a lot of walking as there were so many self service stations. There was a fresh omelette/egg making stand as well. There was plenty of choice re juices, fruit, conserves, cereals etc. service was good.

We ate in the restaurant once and the quality of the food was very good and a reasonable price. Cocktails were disappointing and not to western standards.

I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to others.

Room Tip: We were in a standard room which was excellent, no need to upgrade

The Marriott Puxi is a very very nice hotel. Once again, we didn't know what to expect from Chinese hotels, but this one truly made us feel like we were in a luxury hotel. The rooms were spacious with nice amenities (the window looking into the bathroom is hard to get used to, but pretty typical we found out!) The breakfast buffet was to die for - I am still dreaming about the little pastries we had there! The staff spoke much better English than we were used to, and were extremely helpful in writing down Chinese names for locations when we traveled by taxi. There was also an ATM in the lobby that could do currency exchange, so that was also very helpful (trust me, once you discover the fabric markets, you'll need to take more money out :)) The location is pretty good if you like walking to places. If you are ambitious like we were, you can walk to the Bund, but the Tianzefang and Xiantandi neighborhoods are also not a bad walk. Otherwise, a taxi is very inexpensive to get down into the French Concession neighborhood, the museum, or any other place on your list. We really did not want to leave the Marriott Puxi - was kind of like a home away from home - very clean, very luxurious and very friendly to American travelers.

I stayed at this excellent hotel for 3 nights as part of a Gateway 1 17 day China tour.
Typical, at least for me, this Marriott had excellent house staff, dining room staff, front desk help and wireless for free in the lobby. A hint - IF you are a Marriott Rewards member (costs nothing to sign up, and you can do it right there when you check in) you have FREE wifi access in your room.
Breakfast was included and was a mix of Western and Chinese cuisine. The pool was indoors, but one needed to have a bathing cap (or purchase one) to enter the pool - men and women. The room was immaculate, the beds very comfortable, the bath top notch. A+ from me for this hotel.

We are a family of 5 with children aged 5, 6 and a baby of 1 and we have now been staying in this hotel for 3 weeks while we relocate to China. As a family we highly recommend this hotel. We are in adjoining exec rooms which are spacious, modern and tastefully decorated. The staff at the hotel are outstanding and incredibly helpful, polite and friendly. 5 star service with a 4 star price tag! 4 star in shanghai is generally to a very high standard. The beds, pillows and linens are of a high quality and we find the beds very comfortable. The rooms are sound proof. We eat in the Exec lounge every night for a reasonable fee and have no complaints. The hotel is in a fantastic location right next to the subway. Nanjing Xi Lu is a 5 min taxi or 15 minute walk where there are lots of shops and the Parkson Shanghai Centre which has a fantastic selection of restaurants and cafes (especially Western cafes if you are craving a pizza, sandwich, cake, coffee, salad etc.). The hotel has a very handy Wagas (high quality cakes, sandwiches, salads and coffee etc cafe chain) just 75m from the hotel and a Starbucks about 150m walk. The hotel is child friendly and we have had a DVD player placed in each of our rooms free of charge. The room also comes with a small IPod docking station. The hotel has a mid size indoor pool which is very child friendly as it is only about 70cm deep in the shallow end and there are always lifeguards on duty watching the pool. We have had staff offer to go out and buy a mobile phone top up card for us even though it was 40C outside and only too happy to offer to help top it up and because it is China it is all part of the service without expecting a tip - nothing is ever too much trouble. The buffet breakfast is reasonable for the price and it has a fair variety and choice. We highly recommend this hotel for a short, mid or long term stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room pm on the Heng Feng Lu side on a higher floor as the other side of the hotel doesn...

We stayed here for 4 nights at the end of a tour of China which finished in Shanghai. The hotel reception area is clean and modern and the whole hotel was nicely decorated.

The bedroom we had was lovely, nice and large, good size bed, desk, chairs, tea / coffee making facilities and a decent sized shower. As we had a corner room we had excellent scenic views across a large part of the city. You could even see the Oriental Pearl Tower in the Bund area of the city (about 3 miles away) from the room.

The hotel facilities were good and modern, no free Wi-Fi in the rooms but the complimentary Wi-Fi in the foyer was good and worked very well. The hotel has a small pool, which was ok, although it was compulsory to wear swimming caps (which they sold at a reasonable price).

The hotel location is a good distance from the Bund area but is close to Shanghai Railway Station and in that area there are plenty of dining options, including western options such as McDonalds. There are some pretty walks in Mengqing Park just north of the hotel and there is a Jade Buddha Temple just a block or two away. Dining in the hotel restaurant was good although a little pricey. We dined there in the evening twice and all meals were very nice. Cocktails were around £6. Breakfast menu was the same each day but there was plenty of choice and the many fresh fruit juices available were gorgeous.

Overall we were very impressed with the hotel and would definitely recommend it.
