“Awful.Don't stay here.Currently in the Qube Hotel.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013

Service is non-existent. Spa services after a long jetlagged flight - 75% of what was offered was not available. I had the worst in-room (since the spa felt like a frigid meat locker) massage of my life, and when I asked them ahead of time to charge it to my room (they said okay), it became a huge issue after the fact, when I was laying there, exhausted. Three people were in my room, one with paperwork and another with a credit card machine. I was told that there was a 33RMB additional charge (no explanation), as well as a 15% service charge for using my credit card. ???? I was billing the service to my room, which had my credit card on file. So after a massage, three people in my room, I was on the phone with the front desk telling them this is not what needs to be done to a weary business traveler who sought out their hotel, and there wasn't a chance I was getting up to give someone my credit card.

Now it's 3:30am, I am wide awake and heaven forbid I order a cup of coffee, let alone food.

I am a 16 year China business travel veteran. I chose this hotel for it's proximity to Pudong airport, as well as a morning meeting. I have stayed at the best of the best, and the equivalent of hooker hotels in the middle of industrial areas, nowhere near civilization. My expectations of the Qube have been shot down - I would not recommend this place in the least, nor will I stay here again.

On a positive note, the bed is very comfortable, and it's clean, and the woman who eventually showed up with my lukewarm coffee (in a paper cup, not dinnerware - which they have in the room) was very nice and she is trying to get me the 6am breakfast at 3:30am. Fingers crossed. (& thank goodness for google translate).

Room Tip: view of nothing/construction

We booked a night here on an overnight transfer at PVG Airport.

The room was nice and quite spacious, with multiple amenities. This was our first hotel stay in China, and we were pleasantly surprised at the quality. The check-in and concierge staff was very friendly with good command of English.

We ended up taking the subway for 4 RMB per person to the Chuansua stop (the fourth stop from the airport) and walked the 300 meters through the rain. Take Exit 1 from the metro station and look right as you exit; the Qube is a large, prominent, easily visible skyscraper.

There was a small bit of street noise at our 11th floor room, but we were tired and fell asleep quickly.

Two minor complaints make this a four-star rather than a five-star review.

First, you really should contact the concierge to book the free hotel shuttle if coming from the airport. We waited outside and didn't see the shuttle pass at the appointed time. At present, it appears that the only way to contact the concierge is by telephone; I couldn't find an email address.

Second, the morning hotel shuttles to the airport don't run exactly on an hourly schedule, and there's a bit of a gap. This gap may be due to morning traffic or the driver's need to eat breakfast. In any case, we ended up getting up early yet arriving at PVG before most of the airport staff arrived. A later shuttle might have cut it too close.

Room Tip: Rooms away from busy Chuangsua Road might be quieter.

Try The Cube. 15 minutes from the airport with the free shuttle bus. The room rate is very low for Shanghai. Rooms are newly renovated and offer luxury comfort. The location is not the best, then again, you're only 15 min from your check-in.
Beds are luxurious which cannot be said from all hotels in China. You sleep on a comfortable matrass, not a bench.
The restaurant buffet offers you a nice dinner.
The perfect overnight stay before an early morning flight.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on one of the top floors.

Good breakfast included in the rate; lots of choices. Lobby staff was very helpful and spoke good English. Less English by Club staff.

Typical chinese hotel with great lobby area, rooms less impressive but nice enough. Slow internet; very frustrating. I would stay here again but just overnight, as I need good internet connection.

Beware of 'free hotel shuttle' from airport as it only runs once per hour at 0:55 minutes. If you arrive just afterwards, it's a long wait. Taxi was only 47 RMB though. Shuttle from hotel to airport leaves at 0:30 and was easy, quick and free.

Room Tip: Book the Club level room as the complimentary snacks and drinks are a nice touch.

Stayed here for one night on our way home from a wider tour of Japan and China. The hotel is large with an impressive breakfast buffet and the huge rooms definitely have the wow factor (we'd spent the last few weeks in small Japanese tatami mat style rooms so were a bit overwhelmed!) The hotel is a considerable distance from Shanghai City Centre so it is only suitable if you are going to go in for one day (as we were) or taxi fares could quickly rack up. There is a free transfer to the airport which is useful. Wouldn't necessarily be a good base for a city break to Shanghai but for a bit of comfort close to the airport at an extremely good price, you can't go wrong.

Now called the Qube Hotel. Stayed here overnight en route through Shanghai. Family of four with two teenage kids, so needed two rooms. We arranged through the hotel for a driver to meet our flight, as we were arriving late. The driver was there as promised, no problems at all.

The rooms were nicer than we expected, though of the two, one did smell just slightly musty. Very nice beds and linens, very clean. Showing a little age in the tiny details, carpets beginning to fray a bit at the seams. All-in-all, a good experience.

Staff spoke English very well and were extremely helpful. Shuttle back to the airport the next day went right on schedule. Breakfast was very good, with lots of choice of both western and Chinese food.

Overall, a much better experience than I was expecting, and would recommend the Qube to anyone who needs an overnight en route.

This hotel is very well worth a try for those wanting to stay at a very high class hotel but without the high city centre costs. It was a Howard Johnson Hotel until a few weeks ago but the change seems to have been pretty seamless. Note the spelling: Qube...I thought it was Cube at first!

Located about three minutes walk from the No.2 transit system line that runs from Pudong International Airport to the city, the hotel is about 45 minutes from the city centre, or some 30 minutes by taxi (cost: aprox $22). It is about 15 Km from the airport.

I’d not hesitate to give this one a Four Star rating. Everything about it is quality. The rooms was very well appointed and spaceous with an excellent bed, well appointed bathroom, fast internet, good lighting and flat screen TV.

Public areas are impressive with a good bar and dining room. Service is excellent , with staff both knowledgeable & courteous.

You will have to confirm the cost but I am told that a standard room is about $100 per night which is really very surprising. I am told that equivalent prices are of the order of $300 upwards in the city centre.

Two small criticisms; this is very much a Chinese patronised hotel and so facilities tend to be arranged accordingly. TV channels are almost all Chinese and I could only find three in English out of about sixty available. I pointed this out to the duty manager and he said it would be investigated.

Similarly, breakfast, while excellent in what is available, is set up for Chinese tastes really. Only a small point really as there is adequate fare of interest for us foreigners.

All round I thought this hotel very good value for money.
