“Great hotel......”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2011

I stayed twice, maybe coincidence, but I got food poisoning both time so my stay was not so exciting. However, the hotel looked gorgeous and spacious. Very quiet.
I could see the real life of Shanghai from the window, interesting contrast. The room was very high-tech oriented, I could watch TV in the mirror at the bath room, the toilet was automation, the lid opening and closing and flushing were automated, the water fall like shower was magnificent with a big western decretive bath tub.
Swimming pool was nicely done, was good size for swimming or having fun.
Restaurants were all spacious and elegantly decorated.
Very quiet no matter where I was. If you like a quiet place in Shanghai, this must be an option as this was the most quiet hotel I have ever experienced in Shanghai....

After a long, hard tour through china with wonderful hotels, our last stop was the Waldorf in Shanghai. we were just blown away!

I know there are lots of fabulous hotels in Asia, but I don't know how they could be any better than the new Waldorf. It was just magnificent.

Because it is so new, there are a few service issues to work out, but overall, I would highly recommend it.

Be sure to eat at Pelhams. Great food, especially if you have had enough chinese.

Room Tip: Be sure to get a River View room.

Stayed here for two nights during the weekend. As a HHonors Gold member, our standard rooms were upgrade to river view corner rooms (which were slightly larger than the river view rooms in the middle). The room itself was extremely spacious and tastefully decorated, neither too flashy nor too bland--just the perfect mix. The room, as many others have pointed out, is very high tech, with a control-all panel next to the bed. a nice touch is the "hidden" tv embedded inside the mirror of the bathroom--although the viewing angle from the bath to the tv is a bit awkward though. The Ferragamo toiletries were very nice touches.
Breakfast in the Gran Brasserie was very comprehensive--buffet plus some made-to-order items such as waffles and eggs/omelets were of high quality--the waiters will take your order and deliver it to your table.
Staff throughout the hotel were generally quite friendly and helpful, but the doormen on both entrances could be more helpful and cheerful--esp. those on the "main" entrace (not the one facing the bund) could be more helpful in getting taxis for guests--we were standing there for 5 minutes and had to proactively approach the doormen only for them to realise all these people queuing outside the hotel were waiting for taxis--I can imagine this being a recurring problem (both getting taxis to the "main" entrance of the hotel) and perhaps it's easier catching one on the bund or streets nearby.
The Long bar is really quite classy and the drinks/cocktails served were of pretty good quality--it's not cheap but I think the ambience and the layout (not too many tables) was right for this historic building (located in the "club"side).
Pleasantly surprised at how good this hotel is and I think it surpassed my expectations. Definitely will look to return if you look to stay on the bund side (the Pudong side is relatively barren anyways). This is THE hotel to go for on the bund.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a river view room (it's really worth it since you're on the bund!), get the corne...

Stayed in Waldorf Astoria for 5 nights. It is definately the best hotel compared to other 5-star hotels we stayed in our China trip: Hilton Beijing WangFuJing, InterContinental Sanya, and Sheraton Guilin. It is pricy but absolutely worth it.

The staff at Waldorf Shanghai are the most professional, helpful, and pleasant. Not like the "professional" smiles at other hotels, the staff at Waldorf seemed to be turely happy to help you. The breakfast is excellent. The healthy drinks are highly recommended (included in the breakfast buffet price). The rooms are big, high-tech wired. The bathroom is most impressive. TV in the mirror, luxury heated toilet seats with washing options, etc.

Will definately stay there again.

I am extremely picky about my hotels. Many a Five Star has let me down. Not the Waldorf Shanghai. So new and shiny that the spa, library and salons aren't even open yet. Our suite was gorgeous and squeaky clean - miles of marble and a great mix of traditional and "Manhattan modern". The view of the Bund is fabulous - get a high floor for the best view of the evening light show. The English speaking staff is truly exceptional. Do not miss the Long Bar. tour the old section of the hotel- especially the old library. The location is terrific. The beds are NOT Chinese boards! They are comfy. After two nights in a not so hot Villa a great bed was appreciated. Thank you Elly for making our trip truly special. Sorry my old friend the Waldorf Astoria NYC, you have seriously lost your luster!

Room Tip: High floor with river view is worth every penny.

We visited the Waldorf for Sunday brunch after many visits to the long bar and were very impressed. The price for this at first seemed expensive as we would normally go to the Westin and the Waldorf was about £20 more for the full drinks package. I must say however we all found it very much worth the extra. Starting off with champagne Oysters and other seafood delights in the fantastic long bar was a superb way of starting Brunch. Them moving through to the main dining room for a mouth watering array of food. Here you start again with starter, mains and desserts. The big difference here is its not just buffet and you can also order off a very tempting menu that is freshly cooked to order and i must say was truly delicious.
With the full drinks package you have champagne (two types) and also choice of red and white wine and soft drinks. For us thirsty types as much as you would like.
I would also say the service there is the best in Shanghai. We had a dedicated waitress from start to finish and thats a really nice way to do things. Polaris (great name) was our delightful waitress and even sang a song to us during dinner. Wonderful. Linda the restaurant manager was fantastic both during brunch and in arranging our booking. Many thanks.

Go there, do it. Its fantastic.
