“Shanghai's best kept secret (shhhh....)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2014

My (young adult) daughter and I stayed at this lovely hotel/appartment for two nights in May 2014. First things first, make sure you get off at the right subway stop! This is a new hotel and most taxi drivers and information kiosks have no idea where it is. Part of the problem is that it is known under "Fraser Modena" and it is a new location. Take the subway Line 7 to Langao Road and follow the escalator to the street level. It is literally 10 steps away if you come out the right doors. There is a Starbucks right next door...
The staff at the front desk are very friendly and speak fluent English. The check in was smooth and quick. My reservation included a very nice buffet breakfast served on the 2nd. floor each morning from 7-10 a.m. Make sure you ask for your eggs as they are brought cooked to order fresh from the kitchen. There is also an outside seating area at the restaurant. Very nice on a spring day. There is a laundromat on the 2nd. floor which costs a few bucks, but detergent is provided free of charge at the front desk. We used the machines without any issues.
The room was on 2 levels and well furnished with 2 flat screens and a well stocked kitchen (no food) for preparing basic meals. The upper level had a Queen sized bed and a TV with a nice view from the 21st. floor balcony. the 2nd. bedroom on the main level had a twin bed. The only drawback to this room layout is that the washroom is attached to the kitchen. The only thing separating someone on the toilet and someone cooking is a sliding galss door. Probably not for the queasy folks...
there is a small underground mall with a McDonalds and a Subway as well as a full food court next door. There is also a Lotus Grocery store located underground next door. Very nice selection of just about anything you may desire.
The location isn't perfect, but right on the subway so really not far from anything. I would highly recommend a stay here!

Room Tip: Higher floors seem nicer.

Always try to stay at serviced apartment than hotel for spacious room and privacy wherever I travel. Modena has interesting soho type interior design; where the kitchen, living room and bedroom are allocated at different levels, which makes you feel that you are living at a duplex apartment. The room design is modern and trendy.

Rate is very good at around USD 90/night, about USD 30 less than the Renaissance Hotel next door. This is at least half the price for other competitive serviced apartments in Shanghai, ie. Fraser, Oakwood and Ascott. Indeed, its location tells you why you got a better rate here - but it is just 4 stops metro away from city center afterall, and they offer free car park for guest. I don't mind to stay slightly off downtown area in exchange for a good deal.

The serviced apartment is part of a complex development, therefore you can get almost everything nearby. 24 hours convenience store and shopping center is just one minute walk away.

I would definately recommend to everyone looking for both short and long stay in Shanghai.

This hotel has really spacious rooms which are more like apartments, with separate kitchen area, living room space and a sleeping area. All these different areas are in a multi-level open space in a very modern design. The bathroom has colored glass walls, which are not see-through but might not offer enough privacy if you plan to share the room with someone other than spouses or close family.
The kitchen is stocked with some utensils and you could cook if you wanted. The fridge is big, so you are able to stock up stuff from the nearby 24/7 grocery stores or from the bigger supermarket located in the shopping mall complex below the hotel.

The hotel is located in a huge new development with a luxurious-looking residential buildings, another 5 star hotel and a few office blocks. There is a Starbucks right next to the hotel. everything sits on a new underground mall, which is not particularly big or have any interested shops besides the Lotus supermarket, but there is a foodcourt, a Subway sandwhich shop, Mcdonalds and a direct connection to the metro station.
The Langao Road station of metro line 7 is right outside the hotel. It is 4 stations away from downtown (Jing'an Temple), which will take about 10 - 15 minutes. Metro line 7 is heading out to the suburbs, meaning that the metro towards the hotel from downtown will be completely packed with commuters from 6 - 7PM, but generally it is very convinient to use.

I would not describe the service on the frontdesk as particularly friendly, but it is efficient and very professional. The room was available right way despite of a early arrival.
The doormen can help you get a taxi, which are generally easily available outside rush hours.

the good sides
+ spacious rooms
+ good room amenities
+ closeness to the metro
+ very reasonable price
+ nice cleaning service (you get 2pc of water bottles daily)
+ the free wifi works great

The hotel is definitely not downtown but it does not claim to be. With metro and taxi you can reach any place in shanghai easily. The room rates are very reasonable and offer great value.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone who stays in Shanghai for longer than few days, then you can appreciate having a small kitchenette and proper fridge etc.

Hotel is slightly out of the city centre. Therefore quieter than say staying in Pudong. The rooms were spacious, had a twin with beds on seperate 2 floors making the room feel even more spacious. Great kitchen. Great wi-fi with a proxy server (can access FB, other sites banned in China). Staff is great and efficient. Breakfast was delicious and gets your day started on a good note.

Stayed here for a week in April and was overall quite pleased. Rooms are modern and great value for money considering these are actually suites. All rooms are outfitted with all conveniences, including full kitchens, sitting area, loft like bed area and bath. Wifi was superfast as each room it equipped with it's own wireless router. Rooms also come with a balcony, dvd player, and ipod charger. Front desk staff were very efficiant, and housekeeping kept to a standard schedule of showing up at 10:30am each day. Bottles water is provided (two bottles per day), and as others have said, there's a Starbucks next door and several convenience stores (24hrs) within a coiple block radius. the basement level of the shopping center across the stret contains a full grocery store with plenty of western products. Others have also mentioned the location being far from the center. While this is true, I found the area to be nice and quiet and a helpful break from the Shanghai traffic and crowds. The Longao Road metro stop is across the street (on Line 7) and with one transfer you can get to Nanking Rd, Bund, and Pudong within 15-20 min. the hotel is relatively far from Pudong airport though, and the easiest, most convenient way of getting there is by taxi. Expect to pay RMB136 each way, which in my opinion is worth it in order to avoid the complexity of Maglev/v/metro/bus combination. There's also sone good Chinese restaurants in the area as well as a Pizza Hut if you need it.

We stayed in this hotel for 2 night in Shanghai.
During the staying period, the front desk staff helped us a lot, especially Tommy. Although he was busy, he spent time to solve our problems. He was very helpful. He always smiles. All of us felt comfortable in staying in your hotel.
It is not located at the centre of Shanghai, but it is near the underground railway station.
Moreover, my daughters like the loft very much.
