“Great Serviced apartment in awesome location.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2013

I was looking for a reasonably priced serviced apartment near xintiandi, I found Ascott fit the bill perfectly. I was staying for a week during national holiday (oct 1-7), so the price might have been higher. I paid roughly around 1000RMB+ and got a 1 bedroom premier.

Location: i think it was in a great location, about a block from the center of xintiandi. If you want closer, you can go to a hotel like Langham or Xintiandi 88 or Andaz...all of these places are over $250/night. These are of course a different class of hotels....but we are talking about serviced apartments. Overall, its a great location in terms of xintiandi and also its on Huaihai road which has a lot of shopping and eating options.

General facility: Its not a hotel, so you wont get the abundance of service people attending to your every need...but it is very attentive but with less staff around. It does'nt have that 4-5 star buffet, or a elegant coffee shop in the lobby where you can have afternoon tea. The lobby is just the right size to check in and out, and has a waiting area with a coffee/refreshment table. Its very business oriented and not meant for hanging around. I checked out the pool. It looked adequate, its a bit smaller than the pictures, but it is big enough. the gym is also not bad. It wont win any architectural digest awards, but its good enough. No infinity pools here or jacuzi overlooking the bund.... they have a business center as well...again, adequate. there were a few meeting rooms as well. The bar and italian restaurant on the 7th floor was very sparse when we visited on a friday night. Had a few residents hanging out but looks like its not the buzzing bar of the area. its hard to be when you're next to xintiandi.

ROOM: probalby the best part...it was big...a lot bigger than the Fraser residence i was in a week ago. But its also more expensive than the fraser. but it hink its worth the extra money. The kitchen was big, had really nice electrolux appliances, i think there was about 3-4 themostats in the room that controlled different ACs. The washing machine was located far from the bedroom so it wasnt noisy. The living room area was big as well and didnt feel crammed. My only 2 complains 1) is the bed. I requested a king size bed..and we got 2 fullsize that was butted up together to make a king. This is fine, but if you are the type who likes sleeping in the center...you will feel the space between the beds. second complain is...i booked this place for 2 people...and they only gave us free breakfast for 1 person. which was annoying coz' i had to pay and extra 100rmb if i wanted my wife to eat. Ultimately, we just skipped the breakfast all together.
They have a safe in the closet. bathroom amenities is also adequate. I dont think they provided body lotion. The shampoo and conditioner and shower gel was from l'occitane. They provided toothbrush as well. They also gave 2 bottle water daily.
i didnt find a coffeemaker though...instant coffee. booooo.....would be nice to have a nespresso here.
wifi was fine..it was a bit slow, and somehow had some firewall that prevented me from downloading some magazines in my ipad at zinio. They also had wired connection.

Overall...its hard to complain about this place....great location is hard to beat...and the space you get is big. We used the washing machine a lot so that in itself was worth it since we didnt have to pack too many clothes...or pay laundry bills. The fridge was great too since we can buy food from outside and eat in...or take home food and dont have to squeeze it into a small minibar fridge you;d get in regular hotels.

I will definitely stay here again.

Started badly - I picked up the wrong case at the airport. Tiredness and virtually identical. But hotel staff got me a taxi that waited at the airport and rang left luggage - success! They were also very helpful providing printouts in Mandarin of where we wanted to go - essential for taxi drivers and at the station.
The room was an exec suite with a kitchenette etc. There is a 7/11 store in the basement of the hotel and so I bought beer, crap wine, eggs, bread and pot noodles which we had as a snack. The room service was good too. Breakfast excellent but French restaurant not so good.

Stayed at Ascott last week on business for two nights. It's in a great location, right on one of the big shopping streets of Shanghai and short walk to Xiantindi for drinks/dinner, with a metro station opposite to get you anywhere else. I would say if you are in Shanghai for an extended visit it's a good option - the 'room' I had was a huge suite/apartment in reality - kitchen/lounge/study/bed&bath. I didnt use any of it. Unfortunately it doesnt have terribly good hotel amenities, one restaurant with poor breakfast, bar that closed very early the nights I was there. So it's not a buzzing city hotel by any means. If that's not what you want, then it's probably a good choice.

The location, space and value for price are indeed the core benefits of Ascott branded Serviced Residences over traditional hotels. Thank you for sharing this online!
Regarding the opening hours of the bar, I would like to clarify that the closing time is midnight (or later upon request). I hope there was no misunderstanding about this during your stay! The night view from the bar terrace is just awesome at night time, so it is truly a pity if you could not enjoy it properly. Please accept my sincere apologies for that! I will make sure the opening hours are communicated more clearly to avoid such situations in the future.
Thank you for having chosen Ascott Huai Hai Road Shanghai and welcome back!

I stayed at the Ascott shortly after it had opened and was impressed by the quality furnishings and amenities in the room. The staff were helpful. Stayed in a serviced apartment style room, good size bedroom with a little well equipped kitchen and spacious bathroom.
Very central location, close to shopping centres and a stop or 2 away from Peoples Square. Also close to French Concession where you can do more shopping or see the picturesque side of Shanghai.

everyone already said it all here. good location, perfect location, washer dryer mini kitchen good room amenities. but I wouldnt go for the breakfast there, the breakfast is quite basic. I get a birthday cake from the hotel. it was a nice surprise. early check in and late check out.

however the taxi stand is quite tiring sometimes, but well its shanghai.

Excellent location, just 1 minute you can get to large shopping malls, department store and metro station. Walking distance to "'Xintiandi". It is an entertainment district of Shanghai. I'd stayed in a studio, it's clean and the king size bed is so comfortable ! Must be back again!!

Really, this hotel should be the at the top of the listings. Its price is directly competing with other medium class hotel, but Ascott has first class facilities, great service, super modern. Gym is excellent, breakfast is very good (could always use more western food, but well you are in China!). Bathroom ammenities are from L'Occitane! It has an excellent location, because it's not far from t's Nanjing road (20' walking or just a 10' taxi ride...Taxis are cheap in Shanghai), but it's in a much nicer area, Huahai road has all the major brands and good places nearby, and not so crowded as Nanjin road, where all tourists concentrate.

Room Tip: You should ask for a Park-side view, in a high floor, to avoid the noise coming from HuaHai Road.
