“Great hotel ”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2014

This hotel is fantastic. Great decor, quick efficient and friendly service. Good vibe to the place. Great welcome and well trained staff.

The rooms use space very efficiently and it's a funky mix of old China and modern tech. I suspect the rooms are smaller than they feel.

We had a room and also a shower over looking the Huangpu River.

Two minor things...like several four and five star hotels I have stayed at in China, they seem to skimp on towel quality which contrasts with the general experience... no idea why but the towels weren't five star.

Also... The beds are massively luxurious and overflowing with thick pillows...but no medium ones which isn't great for a side or front sleeper.

Otherwise great place. Recommended.

Happy New Year Sebmack !

Thank you for taking the time to share your comments with us regarding your recent stay with us her at hotel indigo. Your comments about the towels I am afraid to say were right on the mark as we have been waiting for a delayed shipment intended to replace those towels well before they became an issue for our guests - and for this I do apologize. However, I am happy to mentioned that all the towels in the hotel have now been replaced and upon your return you should be able to enjoy a cushy high quality terry experience.

As for the pillows, we in fact have a pillow menu right next to the bed so not only can guests select a size but in fact type of pillow specifying its firmness, size, and even stuffing.

I do hope we will have the chance to welcome you back so and if so please reach out to me personally.

Many wishes for a fantastic Year of the Horse.

All was perfect. Beautiful rooms, amazing view, perfect service. The staff was great and very helpful. While waiting for the house keeping to finished the room, the welcome drinks have been served, roomcard have been directely deliveried to the swiming poor where we were waiting.

This is my second stay in this hotel, really like the boutique concept. Amazing modern design, colourful and inspired by traditional Chinese crafts, makes for warm and welcoming spaces throughout. On entering the room, you immediately felt the attention to detail & the personal touches added character to what was already quite an impressive view from the 26rd floor overlooking the river.

I was fortunate to get a room that looked straight up the Bund, The room is decorated in a stylish Chinese style, the view was great. The room itself was excellent. A good size, with a useful desk, fantastic bathroom and great bed.

The Breakfast selection was amazing and I love the it! Starting with the stunning view over the Bund, yoghurt (with fruit or plain), muesli in little nice jars, juices, milk (soya, lactose free, fat free, full fat) assorted in a display fridge, assortment of bread, jams, asian food and a great selection of warm dishes from the menu, late, cappuccino, warm milk served as well…

You will love this hotel if you get a room facing the river sides in Shanghai.
Efficient check in service and helpful bellman in the lobby. Nice combination of local and modern set up in the room, even the view in the toilet is amazing.
We went to the top floor restaurant on the first night, the fashionable maitre d' made us a special evening served by his professional team, my waitress speaks perfect English. The food here was pricey, almost double the price in HK, but steaks were cooked to perfection and foe gras yummy too, good wine pairing offered by the gentleman.
Breakfast was also decent, if you don't like the Chinese noodle then go for the Japanese set, my wife's fried eye was simply the best. Milk was served very cold with the coffee then it took 15 minutes to be heated up. But the server was really good although a bit lack of English.
If you have limited time to visit Shanghai then don't look further.

A hip hotel with very good services, good view, good decoration, big room, nice welcome drinks and breakfast. Have a library and a massage chair on the 6 Floor. Very high class bathroom facilities. A chinese style room and not out-dated.

Second hotel I have been for Indigo (First in London). It is very nice settings in the lounge, bar, pub and in the room. Went for three nights on vocation and you do feel relaxing while staying in the hotel. There is a bar on the top level and you have a fantastic view to the Bund. However if you don't like the bar and smoking you can also go to the restaurant. It is quiet place and you can find some nice place for reading books. I don't particularly like the food in the restaurant but I guess it is same with all the hotels. There is a restaurant just next door. Overall it is definitely a good choice for traveller.

Dear XiChenUK,

Greetings from Shanghai and the hotel Indigo and may i wish you a fantastic 2014 and successful year of the horse! Thank you for taking the time to share your comments with us and were happy to read that you enjoyed your overall stay.

However, I did wish to clarify a few specifics in your note just to make sure that i am able to follow up appropriately. You had mentioned that the roof top bar was nice but if you did not like smoking then there were other options- Agreed there are other options however smoking is not allowed inside the bar only outside on the terrace.

I am also sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your meals with us as we have two restaurants here in the hotel; Quay our all day dining room which serves breakfast. lunch and dinner and features local Shanghai's favorites as well as some international cuisine or Char the Steakhouse on the 29th floor which is recognized as the city's top place to enjoy a fantastic steak, meal, service and view.

We do hope we will have the opportunity to welcome you back to Shanghai and to meet you in person - and win you over as a loyal hotel indigo guest.

With warm regards

The lobby was lovely and the people spoke English. The room was outstanding with a view to die for! It overlooked the river and the highway with wrap around windows on two sides. It was very comfortable and you have a choice of pillows which I found very helpful. The bathroom could have used better lighting but the tub, shower, and double sinks were great. The toilet was an upgrade on any I had ever seen, with all kinds of options available to keep you sanitary. I had never experienced anything like it! Housekeeping was wonderful and since it was our first stop on a long trip, we appreciated their dedication. Buffet breakfast was included and more than satisfying. One thing that made us laugh was the gas masks in the closet in case of emergency?!

Great location, nice view if you pay the price. Tasteful decoration with feel of old Shanghai style. Service on the other hand is different story! Stayed in 3 different IHG hotels this trip, service at this one is the worst! Breakfast congee was lukewarm, cover open with no heating device, the so called food freshly prepared that can be ordered came out even worse. The dumpling had foul smell, the meat bun was barely steamed. The western style food came out super greasy and once again the bacon was barely cooked! Needless to say for food safety reasons we couldn't finish it. Next morning went out in 30 Fahrenheit temp and got wonton soup nearby, walked back, up to the room the food was still warmer than the hotel food. Now let's talk about room cleaning, we came back to find used teapot and cups still filled with left over tea, no glasses used was cleaned. Our phone charger wires were unplugged and left in the floor. Slipper used were not replaced as all other hotels. Sad for this location and decor which shows how they were trying to be top notch the service just couldn't match other hotels on the Bund.

Dear Jenny h,

I am sorry to have read of your disappointment over your recent stay with us at the hotel Indigo Shanghai as we certainly do strive to ensure that all of our guests enjoy a fantastic stay with us. It is clear that we missed the mark for you on breakfast in particular and I have made certain that the team redouble their efforts to speak with every guest at breakfast so that any such issue could be dealt with then and their and you would have still been able to enjoy the great breakfast you have come to expect.

Again I do apologize on behalf of the team and hope that we will have the opportunity to welcome you back in 2014.

With warm regards
