“Good Hotel in a not so good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2013

I stayed at the Paradise Hotel for 2 nights as part of a group tour. The hotel is not centrally located. To get to the main part of town you will need to catch a taxi. It will take about 20-30 minutes depending on traffic. Across the road from the hotel however is a underground train station currently being built which will be good in future. There are a few restaurants opposite the road to eat which were decent and cheap. The hotel room was spacious and the bed was soft with firm pillows. The bathroom was quite big too. It had a shower as well as a bath/shower. However the drainage in the shower was very slow and therefore reverted to using the bath/shower. If you want to order room service best you go to front desk as when I called no one could understand/speak english. TV channels had a few english speaking channels. There was no hair dryer in the room. I had to request one from front desk however which they provided. Breakfast room is quite big. A wide range of food to choose from, however food you wouldnt necessarily eat for breakfast. Otherwise OK. Overall the hotel is pretty good in a quiet neigbourhood. It was clean and comfortable. If you don't mind a taxi ride to the main city centre then I would recommend

My husband and I stayed here at the end of our on the go tour. It was the nicest hotel that we stayed in during our time in China. The beds were soft and comfortable, bathroom was good....there was even a spare roll of loo paper (unusual for China). The room was also a good size and everything is relatively new. The breakfast had lots of options both chinese and western but they didnt appear to refill things as they ran out eg the milk. The bar fridge in the room did not work. The biggest draw back is the location which is not central at all. It can take anything from 20 to 40 minutes in a taxi to The Bund depending on traffic. The hotel reception will call a taxi for you to go into the city but trying to catch one back can prove to be highly frustrating. Our first 2 nights heading back were ok but on the third it took approximately an hour just to find a taxi that would take us. There are not a lot of food options around the hotel. Overall a nice hotel but dont think we would stay again purely for the location only. They are contructing a metro stop out the front of the hotel. When this is completed maybe it will be more convienent to travel into the city.

Everything about this hotel suggests potential but it has very little upkeep. They say the best in the city, so don't expect a lot.
The area is so beautiful and authentic the hotel is secondary. Truly Shangri-la...

This was the last hotel on our tour with On The Go. As they covered all the checking in for us, I can't comment on the ease of that but being China I'm sure it's probably not that easy.

The rooms, spacious and clean in general. The bed was the comfiest one we had in all our hotels, a very welcome find towards to end of our tour. Bathroom was also very nice, had a separate shower and bath.

It wasn't in the best of locations but taxi's are so cheap there & even if you didn't normally take taxis on holiday you could even take one to the nearest metro and it was still dirt cheap. They do appear to be building a metro station right outside the hotel, I believe once this is completed the hotel prices will increase by quite a bit as it will be a very good pick for the middle of the road traveler.

Breakfast was fine, mix of western and traditional food with plenty to get you started for the day. There is a tesco express not far from the hotel if you need to pick up any drinks etc.

I would definitely return to this hotel if staying in Shanghai again.

We stayed at the paradise hotel through china odyssy tours. The rooms are very clean and modern. We were in a standard room with a king bed, mini bar, bath tub and separate shower and English speaking channels on the tv!
The hotel service is great. Breakfast was the best I had in china!! Everything u could want. Eggs cooked to how u prefer! Yogurt, fruit, cereal, bacon, and the standard fried rice and noodles. The hotel is very out of the way but the subway is soooooo easy to use! It's all in english and only cost 3 yuan to get into the city. The subway station is an easy walk away. The hotel has wifi but only in the lobby. Which was ok because they have large comfy chairs and power points.
I would recommend the paradise hotel!!

The final hotel of the Chinese Checker tour by On the Go Tours. We stayed here for 2 nights. The rooms were fairly large and clean, bathrooms have a bath and shower.
The hotel is currently surrounded by construction. The location of the hotel is really bad, we took a Taxi from central Shanghai and it took 40+ minutes to get back.
