“Two places under one name”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013

I've stayed 2 or 3 times at the Dazhong Airport Hotel and just the other day at the Motel 168. Motel 168 is part of Dazhong Airport Hotel which can be a bit confusing to first time visitors.

This is a quick review of Motel 168 but I'll explain the difference between the two. You'll either reach them by car but most likely come up in the elevator (between Pudong T1 and T2 next to the Maglev entrance) on one side of you is the Dazhong Hotel and the other is Motel 168.

They have the same confused layout except at Motel 168 the rooms are a bit smaller and not quite as nice but the price is cheaper. At the Dazhong Hotel the rooms are a little bit nicer and have a round bed instead of a square one. At both you'll get some cheap toiletry essentials.

Cleanliness at either is luck of the draw (China not know for being clean). Both are equally convenient and a good place to stay if you're on the red eye or want to get to a hotel quick. Beds are average and the showers are good at both places. Staff aren't all that friendly and at both places expect them to ask for a 700-800rmb refundable security deposit by credit card. You will NOT be debited unless you trash the room.

You can pick up breakfast by heading back down the elevator to the 1st floor where there's a couple of restaurants (inc KFC) nearby.

Room Tip: don't forget to request non-smoking if you're a non-smoker.

great hotel located in shanghai airport, just follow signage for airport hotel through the central way between terminal 1 and 2. Entrance is from a circular lift portal opposite the entry to the metro and meglev train to the city center, a total of 5 minutes walk from each terminal.

Arrived about 1am and after a short wait got checked in with a deposit of Y400. Room was amusing with a circular bed and clean bathroom. We stayed one night and left at about 4am with a full service available for check out. English spoken by some of the staff but professional service all round.

Ate a buffet dinner downstairs in the central atrium which was basic but sufficent and was cheap.

Overall, the service was perfect for our needs, cheap, cheerful and very very convenient.

Where do I begin!! I haven't got a good word about this hotel, staff unhelpful and totally rude, cashier told me that the deposit was 700RMB which is a total lie, the deposit was 342 RMB. Now for the room, the room was very dirty human hair all over the shower room, dirty marks on glass table the carpet was so dirty I wouldn't walk around with out having slippers or something on my feet, It hadn't even been hoovered in weeks with the amount of dust and dirt on it, and there were black stains on the carpet by the beds, obviuosly things had been dropped on it and not cleaned. I complained about the room but that is when the staff decided they couldn't speak English. Funny that they were talking in English before the complaint!! As for the noise in the hotel it was unbelievable the room they put me in was 6576 on the 5 floor right by the lifts, so you can here every little step, every word and of course the suitcases, I was woken up at 12.30am, 2am, 3.45am, and again at 5am then at 6.35am. Also I heard the people in the room next door coughing in the night. As for the check out well that took a time as I arrived when about 5 other people were checking out , even though there were two people on that desk only one was actually checking guests out. I would advise every one to avoid room 6576 even better avoid the hotel altogether. Stay in a hotel that has a free hotel shuttle bus service instead. I wish I had.

Room Tip: I you stay in this hotel don't stay in the rooms by the lifts. they are extremely noisy.

Also called motel 168, this is just so convenient for early departures / late arrivals. You are literally in the airport between terminals 1&2. Not fancy, nothing special ... Just convenient! A bit expensive for what you get but the no hassle pays for the extra bit. Wouldn't particularly recommend you stay ... Unless you have early departure/late arrival .

My family of 7 stayed at this hotel on a layover between Melbourne and New York (both directions) and accommodation was included in the cost of the airline tickets so I cannot comment on cost. We were actually in the Motel 168 section. The hotel was literally a 5 minute walk from the airport which was just so convenient after a long flight. Checkin took about 15 minutes and required our passports as there appeared to be some official forms to be completed, and also a small deposit (which was refunded on checkout) for the keys. Staff spoke basic english but were polite and helpful. We were given three rooms which was not appropriate as we have 5 children and therefore couldnt split into more than 2 rooms (and I had indicated this in emails to the airlines in previous months) however I chose not to argue this and to just use 2 of the 3. The rooms themselves were smallish, but clean and perfectly adequate for an overnight stay. The breakfast in the morning was a buffet style, served in the adjacent hotel, and was predominantly chinese but did have toast, coffee, yoghurt and juice.
On the return trip we had a longer layover and went into Shanghai - we were able to store all our luggage which was about 12 pieces for a small amount at the airport, and catch the Maglev train directly into the city - the train leaves virtually from the hotel.
Overall, certainly recommend the hotel as a basic hotel for a layover or quick visit to Shanghai.

The Dazhong Airport Hotel is on top of a podium that is connected to Shanghai PuDong Airport. After arriving walk along the Central Walkway on level 2 to the Maglev high speed train and Metro stations for trains into Shanghai town and the lift up to the hotel is located there. I thought I had booked into this hotel but on arrival found they had put me into their cheaper annexe Motel 168 which is across an open walkway. On checking into Motel 168 I was put into a room with twin beds but asked for a room with a big bed and was told I had to pay 100RMB more for that. The room was basic and a little small but adequate for a one night stopover which is really the only good thing about both these hotels. There was wired internet in the room with free tea and the TV had CNN and BBC news. The water pressure was average and I was not keen on the smoked glass door into the bathroom and the smoked glass partial wall between the shower room and the bedroom, although there was a blind that could be used for privacy. There was also some noise from nearby rooms. Breakfast was across the walkway in the Dazhong Airport Hotel for an additional 30RMB which was not worth it. A buffet of mainly very basic Chinese noodles, rice and congee. I like Chinese food but this was not good. Overall I will use these two hotels again only to rest between flights but otherwise will avoid them.

Room Tip: The actual Dazhong Hotel cost 100RMB more than the Motel 168 and has better rooms

This hotel provides exactly what you usually would expect from a layover hotel - quick in, quick out, fair prices and clean place to bunk in for a night. Immidiately attached to the airport between terminal 1 and 2. This is certainly not the place you wanna spend your holidays so keep in mind its purely functional
