“Awesome Hotel~Definitely would stay here again~”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2011

This Hotel is situated at a prime location at Zhongshan Park. Close to Metro Line 2,3 and 4. So basically you can use the metro to get to anywhere. All the staff at the hotel was really helpful. I arrived early at the hotel without any notice, and they cleaned out a room for me less than an hour. The rooms are quite large for hotels in Shanghai and the furnitures are quite new.

There is a shopping centre right next door and fast food & restaurants are just a few feet away. The price for the hotel is reasonable. Would definitely stay at this hotel again!

Pent hotel is my company's (US based corporate hotel. We get a good rate which includes Internet and breakfast. I would compare Penta to an Ibis hotel. Spartan but comfortable. Most of the clientele are Asian business people. There are a few European business people but I have seen few Americans (I have stayed there on three different occasions, a week at a time). The staff speak basic English, sufficient for daily needs. There usually is someone who is proficient enough to trouble shoot any problems.

On one stay in winter, my room was on the chilly side and failed to warm up to my liking. When I complained, the hotel's solution was to give me an extra blanket. Otherwise, my stays there have been pleasant.

Usually we stay in the hotel next door if we visit Shanghai, but this time we would like to give Penta a try.
The location of the hotel is great which lies on the subway line to both airports and high speed railway - pretty convenient. The design of the room is bright and modern. The open wardrobe is a practical solution for traveler and I love this idea. We’ve booked the Penta plus room and the room is comfortable with all the necessity provided, except the bathroom is rather congested.
The only remark I would like to make is about the smell of the property. My nose is quite sensitive/ allergy to smell and there was a very strong plastic smell when I passed by the corridor and got into the room on 4/F. We asked the reception if we could change to other room to get rid of the smell. Unfortunately there was no room available on other floors that night. The reception offered to get the maintenance team to have a check to the ventilation, but there is nothing the maintenance team could do about except to open the window to let some fresh air in to dilute the smell. I could not sleep well on the first night with that plastic smell, albeit the window was opened.
The next morning I spoke to the reception about the situation and the reception offered me another room on 12/F which was just checked out. We were given the room after room service done. There was the same plastic smell along the corridor on 12/F but the smell in the room was less strong and it’s diluted further with the window opened. I finally found out that the smell was from the carpet.
Feel hesitate to book this hotel again because of that plastic smell. However, if you don’t have any problem with your nose, Penta is a good choice.

Great location, within walking distance from the ChungSan Park/Mall & Renaissance hotel. Very comfortable beds. Most hotels in the price range have very hard beds, but Penta's were reasonably soft. Rooms have modern styling, but the bathroom was very cramped. I wanted the top floor, to avoid all the street level noise, but the roof have some machinery that kicks in every 15-30 minutes, so I moved to a another room on the other side of the building. Overall, a great value.

This is the hotel with the brightest rooms that I've ever stayed at. Rooms are of average size but well equipped with all the necessities. Location is out of the town and a trip to The Bund by taxi cost approximately RMB25 - RMB30. Taxi drivers may not know the hotel. It is easier if you mention the adjoinig Mayfair Hotel (Ba Li Chun Tien Da Jiu Dian in Chinese). The breakfast is good. If breakfast is not included in your package, there is a 24hrs bakery next door and a Mc Donald's is also within walking distance.

A little out from the main 'downtown' area of Shanghai, but subway entrance nearby so no problem. Also a park close by, and good shopping centre not too far away. Room was fine, although noticed quite a pungent smell in the room and the lobby which I think was related to the works going on. Buffet breakfast was good. Lobby area (in the Mayfair Hotel) was well maintained and the staff efficient. Good value hotel.
