I stayed here for 3 weeks as part of an Experience China course at the East China Normal University. The accommodation was provided free of charge by Hanban, so we were grateful we were put up in such nice surroundings! The hotel is a 10 minute walk from the ECN university, but is far from downtown Shanghai (30-45 in taxi or public transport). The hotel is a 15 minute walk from the nearest subway station, which is fine if you are fit. The subway station is a 14 rmb ride from the hotel in a taxi.
The hotels are tidied daily and the bathrooms are cleaned daily too. The towels are changed daily whether you want them to be or not! Showel gel and shampoo is provided as is a comb and toothbrush. These are replaced when needed. The rooms comprise (in our case) two single bed, a desk, a small tv, a wardrobe, 3 chairs, a storage chest and a small fridge. The fridge didn't get things very cold but it was better than drinking room temperature water. The shower had two temperatures - boiling and tepid. I would stick to the tepid! Wired internet is available at a charge (our course provider paid for ours), but it is painfully slow.
Breakfast costs 48 rmb and the one mornin I tried it, it was a sad affair. Just bread, butter, jam, then various Chinese foods, none of which was appetising. The dumplings had scant filling and the fried rice was bland. There was an omelette station, but this was not open the day I went. The coffee was nice, but the orange juice was some kind of powdered affair and quite noxious.
There is a supermarket on the 5th floor of the building across the way in which McDonald's in housed. Water and snacks can be got there for much cheaper than at the convenience stores on the street.
PS The beds are very very hard by western standards!
