We stayed at five hotels within mainland China and this hotel was by far the worst. When we checked in late in the evening we found our room wasn't particularly clean. Dark hairs were scattered over the pale couch, large pieces of fluff were on the rug and there were dust balls in the corner. Our safe wasn't working properly so we called the Duty Manager to see if they could reset it. The Duty Manager came to our room and fixed the safe so we showed them the dust and hairs in the room and asked if they could organise for a thorough clean the next day. The next day when we returned to our room in the afternoon the bed had been made etc but none of the requested cleaning had occurred. Almost straight away there was a knock on our door and a different Duty Manager had shown up. She didn't speak English but from her sign language we worked out she was there about the hair and dust. She left with a friendly smile and we thought, at last, something might get done. We waited to see what would happen next. We stayed four nights and the room was never cleaned properly.
The other big negative was the bed. Next to sleeping on the ground, this has to be the hardest bed we've both ever slept in. One of the mornings we wanted to have a sleep-in, but we couldn't. Both of us had aching sides each morning and we couldn't bare staying in bed any longer - I'm not exaggerating! Ramada Plaza Gateway, please update your mattresses to something a bit softer!
Another note - our room had a kitchenette but no cooking equipment, plates, cutlery or anything, just the things you need to make a cup of tea or coffee. There was also a note in the room about no cooking being allowed. I'm not sure what the point of the kitchenette is!
