“Don't Miss This Part”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2013

With only three days to "do Shanghai", we really had a super time in the French Concession. So much to see, do and buy. Even though it was crowded for the new year, it was one of our favorite parts of the city.

“Winding Pathways”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2013

The French Concession, once designated for the French, is a large area with historic buildings and small walkways tucked in the tiny neighborhoods.
Although gentrified and touristy, it is a "must see" area of Shanghai. I liked the tiny walkways we discovered, the surprises around every corner like vendors selling wares on spread out blankets, teeny tea shops and more. The grander boulevards and trendy restaurants were lovely too.

“worth spending time here”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013

The French quarter is a very quaint part of Shanghai which is very european in flavour. The trees lining the streets, the architecture, is all very european. There are many nice cafes in this neighbourhood and it is a pleasant place to walk about to take in the ambiance.

“Ok”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013

It's an ok area to walk around but there's really nothing special about it. It is as ugly as the rest of this city and overpriced beyond reason. If you know how to navigate sidewalks overtaken by motorbikes and don't mind breathing extremely polluted air and on top of that paying 8-9 bucks for a coffee or a bad beer, then sure it is for you. Enjoy! Welcome to China!
P.S. Do not attempt going into any of the "cute" stores unless you make six figures a year.

“To meet other expats”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2013

My friend lives nearby and asked me to meet her. I travelled on the metro. I was delightfully surprised by the tree lined streets and the amount of western type restaurants and cafes to choose from. I also liked the shops, many different from other areas in Shanghai. If you want to meet other expats this is where you will find them. Many great places for breakfasts.
