“Value for money and good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2012

The room has towels, slippers, toothbrush, soap, shampoo, tv and almost everything a budget hotel should have. Only diff is that there's no window and they do not tidy up every single morning for you, which is fine with us. We're not choosy people. The bed is SOFT and comfy. Well, read that from other's their room was noisy by the pool table, well we could hear abit of chattering and stuff though.
Check in timing is noted after 12noon and there's a short hair (lady) staff whom is very friendly and approachable with directions and stuff.
It's right in front of Luban rd Metro, in front of many good food. Filling noodles next to hostel, down the road there's awesome 锅贴 and across the road beside the bakery, there's very nice and affordable 24hrs dimsum.
Do not bring too much luggage as the front desk check in is located at 2nd floor, and the front steps aren't friendly :P However, we had many helping hands and during our last day of stay, a friendly guy helped us to carry down all our luggage with no sweat :)

My bf and I stayed in a private room here for 3 nights. The first room we got was right by a pool table, and we ended up changing to a different room because people were playing 24/7 and it was very difficult to sleep. Our second room was closer to the bar, and that too ended up being the same: noisy! We had to get up at 6am for our last day there, and I don't even think I got an hour of sleep. Other than that, the rooms were very small, but clean and efficient. There was a private bathroom and a small TV with a few English channels. Our 2nd room had a very "sexy" bathroom; a glass wall between the tiny room and the bathroom could be awkward if you were travelling with a friend.

I thought that the location was very good. We were able to walk basically everywhere, and there were a few restaurants on the street.

I would have liked to meet some people and hang out in the common space, but when we were there, all the other guests were young Chinese people who were doing their own thing and not really interested in meeting us.

Room Tip: Try to be as far as you possibly can from the bar and game rooms.

1) Don't get discouraged by 'Hostel' in the name. We found the private room with balcony to be very spacious and ideal for family.
2) The location is the key. It is just 2-3 blocks away from famous and colorful Nanjing street and metro station. You can walk to Bund in about 15-20 minutes. On your way to Nanjing street, there are plentiful inexpensive local restaurants with English menu and delicious food including steamed buns for breakfast
3) A very good lounge area provides opporunity to socialize with your fellow travelers.
4) The staff speak as good English as you can get in China
5) Free computers with Wifi

Few negatives
1) On our arrival, on first day, the room we had booked was not available so we were given different type of room. We were told that it is becuase the previous occupant overstayed. But they assigned right room next morning.
2) The tour operator/travel guide desk was empty during our stay as he/she was on vacation. The reception staff was very helpful but lacked some useful knowledge. For an example, I wish they would have advised us that we should carry our passports to book a fast train ticket to Suzhou when we asked lots of questions about transportation to get there. We found this out after we reached fast train station after more than half an hour of journey just to return back right away.

Room Tip: We had private room with balcony for two of us just for 50 yuan more and I thought it was absolutely...

Not sure what I think if this hostel
+ cheapest price for a double we could find
+ free Internet and nice lounge area
+ staff helpful if not all speak good English
+very near the metro station

-tiny room had no window and v basic
-very thin foam mattress. Had to use my sleeping bag as padding!
-horrible smokey smell in lobby
-food and drink expensive
-lounge resembled a silent
computer club most nights
-not too impressed with showers. Touched a wall by accident and got gross slime all over me.

If you book a private room, make sure it is not near the common area as you won't get any sleep. Otherwise the hostel appears well run and clean and tidy.

Stayed a few nights on a backpacking trip through China. Located only a few blocks from The Bund, E. Nanjing Road and the Subway. Hostel food is good but pricey compared to local restaurants and vendors. Atmosphere is friendly and staff helpful. Clean communal bathroom will bring you back to your college days if you're not used to staying in hostels, so bring some flip flops/shower shoes!

Room Tip: Be prepared to share space! Shared dorm rooms are the general accommodation.

I loved this hostel. It was clean, there were a lot of showers, and there was a TV and computers area. The only negative was that the first night we had to sleep in the bar area because they overbooked during the Shanghai Expo season, but we got to sleep there for free at least. Still, I highly recommend this place for the great location, cleanliness, and facilities.
