“Just Like Heaven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2011

We flew into Yasawa Island Resort from Nadi on the 14th of March. My husband and I were waiting for this honeymoon trip all year long.
The flight itself felt like we were flying to heaven, going through white clouds and the glistening blue sea beneath us.
As we made our approach to the island we were in awe of the spectacle, which was Yasawa Island. We were greeted by the very friendly Yasawa Island Resort staff (Manasa and Jo) and we were immediately made to feel welcomed.
The resort itself was vibrant and filled with breath taking scenery. The room that we both anxiously anticipated to see in person was more than what we expected. The food at the resort was to die for and amazingly great.
We were very fortunate to not only experience the resort lifestyle but we were also able to visit one of the local villages to gain a greater respect of the natural Fijian culture.
Overall, we had a blast at the resort and we miss all the wonderful staff. Huge thank you to the management team (Coco and Brent), Jo, Manasa,Teca, Lei, Agai, Jona and everyone else that made our stay and experience excellent
We will never forget our memories we have from Yasawa Island Resort. See you soon.
P.S. I really miss the rou rou soup from the ‘Taste of Fiji’ menu :)

We visited Yasawa for our honeymoon in late March, early April 2011. It is the true pacific island experience. There are picture postcard perfect white sandy beaches and turquoise water with wonderful snorkelling right off the beach in front of the bures. We loved Yasawa because it is a natural resort, no airs and graces, just a genuinely beautiful island, with huge bures, a lovely large open air dining and bar area for sunset viewing over the beach. We loved the outdoor shower in our bure overlooking the beach and never used the inside shower during our stay! There are only 18 bures so it gives you a pretty nice intimate experience.
The food is spectacular. Truly a wonderful dining experience under the guidance of Scott the head chef. We felt so spoilt. The menu changes daily and we were lucky enough to have fresh lobster some local fishermen had caught. The wine list offers some lovely wines. Every meal was special; so many wonderful tastes!

The resort is staffed by many locals from the neighbouring village and we felt their warmth and hospitality to be genuine. We visited the local village and met the kids in the school which was a wonderful experience. We were impressed that the locals could live their traditional ways as much as possible.

There are plenty of activities to keep you busy if you so desire; from a trip to the blue lagoon caves on the southern part of the island, snorkelling off the resort and at various beaches and bays, private beach picnics where you are deposited by speedboat with lunch so you can enjoy your own piece of heaven for a few hours, walking, tennis, kayaking, sailing, windsurfing, fishing etc. Or just relaxing in the peace and quiet of the resort and enjoying your huge bure, with its own beach shack and sun lounger. Or you can go and visit the delightful Aggie at the Spa who has wonderful healing hands for a massage or facial or other beauty treatments.

The resort has new owners (Brett & Corinne were our wonderful hosts) as of the end of January 2011 and they are working hard to ensure the quality of the resort which has its challenges due to its remoteness. But it is that remoteness which makes this a special, untouched place. It is the only resort on the island which is a big island, being 25km long and about 1km wide on average. You have the feeling of being in a remote environment rather than a small cultivated island just for tourists. There is no scheduled boat service (the journey would be over 4-5 hours). The 35 minute flight to the island is in a small 8 seater plane so you get amazing views of the reefs and islands on the way over. The waters out the front of the resort are protected by the local villages, so there is no fishing allowed there and the resort tries to be as eco friendly as possible to protect its natural environment.

The resort is a combination of ‘rustic chic’ and ‘traditional elegance’. You won’t find gold plated taps or perfectly manicured lawns as in other 5* resorts, but you will have a wonderful Yasawa experience of paradise, and if you want to go to heaven, then stay in the very private Honeymoon bure with plunge pool on its own stretch of beach just north of the resort. At certain times of the year, the resort accepts children, so check the dates that applies if you want to have a child free stay.

Thank you to Manasa, Wati, Corinne, Brett, Joe, Scott, Jona, Atu, Wonga, Lai, Bill, Bali, Anna, Aggie and the rest of the staff whose names we didn’t learn for your kind and attentive service. We had a wonderful time and would thoroughly recommend Yasawa for its intimacy, privacy and relaxation.

We are a couple in our late 30's from Minnesota with four children and we have been to a lot of destinations. We choose Fiji hoping to find something different. We spent a week at Yasawa Island Resort and it turned out to be the best vacation experience yet. It was everything we hoped for from excellent accommodations, superb cuisine, and some of the friendliest staff and villagers imaginable. We arrived at Yasawa Island Resort as vacations and left with a feeling that we were leaving friends behind. In past travels we have never had the feeling of safeness and honesty that we felt here. We were worried that 7 days would be to long and would get bored but 7 days was not long enough. We still had things we wanted to do when we left. We enjoyed Scuba Diving and Fishing with Atu, Waqa and Lye and the personal attention they gave us. We made a trip to the Blue Lagoon Caves, Lost Village on the North Shore, and had our own private day on Paradise Island. We also enjoyed a basket weaving demonstration by Waqa and the other villagers. Along with some a couple singing and dancing performances by the village choir. We were able to dance with the villagers also. We enjoyed a traditional Fijian feast where all the food is cooked in a pit dug in the sandy soil. We had many massages by Aggie at the Spa. She is wonderful and is definitely a must. Joe Seru the Duty's Manager if very personable heartfelt staff member that will answer any question you have and make you feel at home. Bill, Wati, Anna, and Manasa are also staff members and villagers that helped us always with happiness and excitement. You can tell they love what they do and are more then happy to help you. This is definitely a place we will go back to. We are already planning a trip for our family of six for March 2012.

We love Fiji and have been to so many of the 4 & 5 star resorts over the years, but we have finally found our nirvana! Yasawa is paradise... incredible beaches, the friendliest staff, unbelieveable food... we didn't want to go home and can't wait to visit again next year! Thank you for the best holiday we have had in decades!
