“Heaven on earth!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2014

A truly wonderful resort far, far away from the bustle, stress and noise! The bar was a natural gathering point for guests during the afternoon and evening where everyone was talking to everyone. The staff was incredibly friendly and service-minded and they really made us feel welcome and made an effort in every detail so that we all could enjoy and feel good!

The beach was extremely beautiful with soft, white sand and turquoise water, just lovely!!! The only thing i didn't like was the ugly plastic sunbeds on the beach, they just didn't fit in!

Are you a diver, this is truly an amazing place to be. The visibility was just amazing, over 50 meters, and the underwater world was wonderful! During one of the dives a humpback whale swan over our heds, that was an incredibly cool feeling!

4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2014

We stayed on VIWA for our honeymoon in February 2014. What a relaxing & enjoyable place to stay. If you’re looking for an island that has no phone reception, lovely staff, excellent food and a good bar tender, then VIWA is a great choice. We were welcomed on the beach with a fresh frangipani lei and coconut to drink during the check-in process. A nice touch & introduction to our stay on the island.

There are 11 bungalows at the resort, all free-standing and quite spaced out from each other. They are surrounded by plants & trees, so even though you know you have a neighbour, you can’t hear them or see them, unless your both standing on your front balcony. The rooms are lovely and beautifully presented! The towels on another hand are not so great, they were brand new and when you dried yourself (beach towel & bathroom towel) you were covered in fluff. We recommend bringing your own towels for your own personal comfort. The bathroom was on the outside of the room & we loved how it was exposed to the natural elements. Not once did we feel exposed, it is very private, but a nice touch to the tranquil feel of the Bure. The view from the front balcony – is amazing! From here you can walk straight out onto the beach, and we spent most of our time swimming & sunbaking the days away.

There are a number of optional free activities organised during the day, from snorkelling, handline fishing, and coral planting, Plus a visit to the school in the local village. The school visit was an amazing activity and costs FJD$4 per person to attend (which is donated to the local village). You are welcomed through the village by the locals into the school, where the children put on a performance. What an amazing experience!

The island runs to Fiji time, and as you’re on the island to relax and unwind, you must accept that Fiji time is a part of the VIWA lifestyle. Example: as part of the honeymoon bonus we were to receive a complimentary bottle of champagne & fruit basket upon arrival in our room and 2x 30 minute complimentary massages. The champagne and fruit basket arrived 2 days late, and we had to ask at reception that we for this to be honoured. Our massages only went for about 18 minutes each, and we had to supply our own lotion.

Lunch is ordered at breakfast, and dinner is ordered at lunch, which is not a problem and the menu does offer variety and choice of meals, however it did become a light-hearted running joke with the waitress that everytime we went to order a meal, not all options were available. And whilst we can respect the fact that the island is isolated & food is pre-ordered and delivered from the mainland, if a dish is not available that day due to produce not being available, then it should be either crossed off the menu, or the waitress should be able to advise you of this as the menu is handed out, not after you have already made your selection.

If your allergic or have a dislike to cats, please note - In the main dining, bar and lounge area, there are around 6-8 cats that have free-run of the area. Whist I don’t necessarily mind cats, when their running around, fighting and licking them themselves on furniture and near you while you eat, it is a big turn-off and something that needs to be rectified.

We also note that are some items where attention to detail needs to be improved… menu’s were starting to tear and rip and needed to be re-laminated, the pool of water offered for you to wash your feet before you entered your bunglow was not re-filled every day, the bathroom shampoo conditioner and soaps were not re-filled once used, the snorkelling gear was not cleaned properly between uses and some snorkels were starting to go mouldy, the sun chairs out by the beach were starting to crack and break from exposure to the hot sun, the optional day activites (fishing charter, island day-trips and scuba diving) were not promoted upon check-in and therefore we only found out about the fishing charter through another guest - which was a great experience and my husband was very happy with his GT and Spanish Mackrel that he caught.

However not to end on a bad note – if you ever get the chance to visit VIWA, we HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend the Private Seafood Dinner for 2 on the beach. The food was AMAZING! Freshly caught that day, the chef worked her magic and gave us a dinner that we will never forgot. Prawns, fish, Cray fish and Squid – DELICIOUS! And to top it all off, we were serenaded by the Fijian string band, and the weather was just perfect.

Special mention to BA, the activities coordinator, for making all the activities fun and enjoyable, and for loaning us his fishing rod so my husband could fish off the beach, whilst I relaxed with a glass of wine & a good book – how relaxing! Thank you Caroline, the chef, for your amazing meals every day! Apy for your smiles at breakfast, Tomu for your colourful cocktails and Robert for organising our fishing charter, private dinner on the beach & ensuring our stay was organised and relaxing.

We had the best time at this resort, The food was fantastic
nothing was too much trouble for the chef and chefets, If we said we wanted a lobster then they would catch us a lobster. .The family Al and Des made us so welcome and treated us like family. would not hesitate to recommend Viwa, The beach bungalows are spacious, clean and on the beach you only need to walk a few steps and your in the water..everyone should try viwa as its true value for money and so peaceful...thk you viwa we love you...we did not like our stay at Lomani at all and would never go back!

We stayed at Viwa Island Resort for 7 days from the 8th to the 16th of January and what a great place! This is the place to come and replax when your a couple trying to get away. Upon arrival we were welcomed by a very friendly staff playing local music on the beach and a local coconut drink.

Its a perfect place to relax, with opportunities to join the local activities during the day (which change very day). The staff is super friendly and you get a close bond with them even though you only stay there for a short while. In the early evening there are staff playing local music on the guitar and other instruments which makes the "happy hour" very enjoyable. The pictures you can find on the web are spot on and the place is very beautiful.

The food: Excellent! Which is very essential as you can only eat at the resort. The chef is very helpful and can easily cook or alter the menu to your liking. If you ever go there you need to try out the tuna which is cought by the locals.

Viwa is the perfect place to go if you want to relax and get away. Even though we went in the rainy season we only had 2 hrs during our stay where it rained. As there is no mountains on the island the whether was superb.

We can highly recommend this place!

My husband and I visited Viwa on the 1st January 2014 for 7 wonderful nights. This island is so beautiful and quiet and with only 11 bures, it makes it extra special. There is plenty for you to do if you want to or you can just chill out. With the gorgeous beach and clear crystal blue water in front of your bure which was really nice inside and out what more could you ask for.
The meal area and bar is great with such a nice view overlooking the water and the guys singing and playing guitar have the most amazing voices.
The food was beautiful every single day and the barbeque night was really good. Thanks Christine your a great chef.
Loved our romantic dinner on the beach as well.
All of the staff and the owners were so lovely and a pleasure to meet. Esther always looked after us if we needed something she's the best. Joe and Tomu and Ba and Bati and Maria the lovely massage lady and everyone else that works on the island thank you so much for making our holiday on Viwa such a treasure.
We absolutely loved our time we had there and wish it didn't have to end. Will defiantly be back again.

We stayed here over Christmas,- and the island itself is beautiful. The resort is a little sad. Michelle was off on maternity leave and so family members were managing the resort. The local staff were lovely. Really trying to make the trip memorable. And it easily could be. The attention to detail is what is lacking here. And yes, I am qualified to say that as I have visited 49 countries over the last 2 years. So I know what good looks like. I I was waiting for the management to ask me while I was on the island, my opinion, and even through we were there for a week,no one asked me. And I even listed it all on departure, but no response has been forthcoming. So here it is. Meals- lovely and delicious. However it is not personally ideal for me to choose my meals ahead of time whatever management says. The snorkel equipment is poor quality and for broken flippers and substandard snorkels and masks should not be charged. The included extras - for us it was dinner or massages - were half heartedly carried out. The massage was quite possibly the worst I have ever had and I am a qualified massage therapist in the USA.
As I have said the local staff were wonderful. Trying their best to make it a great holiday. The management were there but not engaged with us as guests. The desalination was an issue that was communicated at the beginning of the week, but nothing more was forthcoming. This meant the water we boiled in the bure, as well as the coffee at the main place was at times salty. Communication as to what was happening, and regular updates would have been welcome. We did not have hot or even warm water in our bure for 4 days and we did notify the reception and management every single day until it was fixed.
This could easily be an outstanding resort. The location is just wonderful. And despite the comments we had a good time. This is just our feedback.

We recently spent seven fantastic nights at Viwa over the Christmas 2013 period. On arrival we quickly learnt that we were the only guests at the resort. At first this was rather exciting as we were on our honeymoon, then we started to question – Why? It is peak travel period and only the two of us. By the end of our seven days the resort had started to fill up, however this didn’t stop the restaurant staff asking us at Breakfast what we wanted for Lunch, and at Lunch what we wanted for Dinner……. We never actually ate lunch at the resort. This meant the restaurant staff trawled around until they found us in the early afternoon to ascertain what we wanted for Dinner. I found this rather invasive and honestly, I enjoy deciding what I want to eat at the time not several hours prior.
Michelle the Manager was not present during our stay, seemingly she was having a baby in Australia (Congratulations!) her parents were managing the resort in her absence. So what I am about to write might be completely different ordinarily, however the “Parents” were present but didn’t manage. When I questioned “Mum” about if she was Grandmother yet and would Michelle return to Fiji, she replied, She’d better, I can’t wait to get away from this place…..! They didn’t act on feedback, for example, the guests in Bure 9 (our friends and family) arrived on the Sunday and didn’t have hot water until the Thursday. This was reported daily. The desalination plant broke and there was no fresh water, we (all guests) were subject to salty tea and coffee (no fresh water was offered to us). There seemed to have been some sort of cat fight in the main area with blood spots all over the floor, nothing was done even when it was pointed out to the Management.
The resort seemed unloved and rather tired. All the loungers both on the beach front and by the pool were all broken. The fresh water troughs outside each building were never filled after day of arrival, the “Pure Fiji” products were never refilled. The snorkelling equipment that you had to hire and pay for was broken or not available.
The staff were amazing and really made the holiday for us, I can’t imagine Viwa without them, they made us very welcome and went out of their way to entertain. Viwa management should be very appreciative of them.
Would I go back? Probably not, it was rather expensive for what we got, Viwa is portrayed as Luxury, it is more like expensive Flashpackers…….

We are very disappointed that you did not enjoy your stay here at Viwa island Resort and we do acknowledge that we did have a small issue with our desalinisation plant during your stay.
However it was management who arranged for a new machine to be brought to the island Christmas eve and installed by contractors on Christmas Day. Unfortunately the contractors had made an error when installing the new machine and unfortunately this did contaminate some of our fresh water storage. However this was rectified by management and it was only for a short period of time that you were inconvenienced for and certainly not for your entire stay.
Here at Viwa it is no secret that we do pre order lunch and dinner this is to ensure that our guests are given the freshest produce at meal times and to ensure meats are thawed correctly avoiding any health issues with contamination, we apologise if this did not suit you.
Viwa Island resort is a family operated business and all family members including staff are eagar to please all of our guests on the resort at all times, if management or staff are not aware of an issue you have, rectification is very difficult to achieve and as far as we are aware no issues were brought to managements attention during your stay.
In regards to your insinuating comment that management does not want to be managing the resort, Management is on the contrary more than happy to be there however very keen to spend time with the new arrival to the Viwa family. You may not be able to understand however most grand parents at this time are very keen be with their first and only grand child which I believe is what management was looking forward to the time you questioned them about becoming a grand mother.
The blood spots on the main facility floor were in actual fact blood that had come from a fish that was caught earlier that day and brought to the kitchen from the beach and had infact been cleaned up not 30 minutes later.
During your stay you constantly remarked to management what a wonderful time you were having however it was brought to managements attention that there was an issue when you hid a letter to the following guests the bure you were staying in for them to read where you expressed your feelings about your stay along with this trip advisor review shortly after your stay.
We are sincerely sorry for the issue we had with our desalinisation machine during a short period of time during your stay and we hope that the next time you visit us your stay will be more enjoyable.
