“The frendliest people on earth.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 days ago NEW

On my third trip to the Pacific Harbor, I still contend that the Fijian people are the friendliest in the world. We had a great time and made a lifetime friend in Matt Rounds. He is a great employee for the Pearl and should get a raise for his contribution to his guests.

Room Tip: Our room faced the ocean and I would recommend that.

The Pearl seems to receive very mixed reviews but we had a great stay despite the dubious weather the week we were there in October. We had a luxury escapes package which came with an ocean view room and bunch of vouchers for dinners, massages and a village tour. The ocean view rooms are lovely, spacious and modern. People in other parts of the hotel had very small balconies and some were overlooking a construction site but said they paid very low rates so weren't that worried. The staff really are very helpful and friendly - we were even given a free snorkelling trip out to a reef as we had said we love snorkelling but the wind was too strong to be able to see anything from the beach in front of the hotel. That trip is usually $65 per person and a good deal for that - was amazing out there. We never did find out if there was anything to see off the beach - not sure if it is usually like that. We did go for a kayak up the river (were the only people staying with enough kayaking skills to be able to get off the beach and up the river as the wind was really bad all week) - this is a great trip that I would recommend. The restaurants are good - prices not as ridiculous as out on the islands and you can wander down the road to find alternatives - eg cheap curry house over the road. The buffet breakfast (included in all room fees) is awesome - probably had everything you would want to eat. The theme meals were good too. The only issue we had with this trip was the weather - we had been to Fiji before and stayed on the islands off Nadi (spent the first few days of this trip on Bounty Island as well) - couldn't really get a straight answer to the question 'is it always like this in October?' so suppose it is - the wet side of Fiji.
Re travel from the airport - we had transfers thrown in and that is worth asking for if you book here as is a long trip - 2 hours plus. Nice drive really but could be expensive if you paid separately. Otherwise just catch the Nadi to Suva express bus - this is a nice air conditioned coach and will cost about $12.
Sorry have no photos but it looks like its own website shots, no clever camera work. The construction should be finished soon but ask.

Room Tip: go for the ocean view and make sure you don't end up overlooking the construction site. Balconie...

My partner and I LOVED our three nights at the Pearl in mid November. Location is ok with a short walk to the Arts Village for supermarkets, souvenirs and great restaurants. Rooms are a good size, clean and modern. But it is the staff that really make this place! From the front desk, to the restaurants, bars and activities desk, they are genuinely interested in your day, your stories and can't help you enough. Susana was great at the Bistro/Bar. We'll definitely be back very soon!

This is a great hotel well away from the cities and tourist traps, which is what I want. The hotel is getting a bit worn in places, but the ongoing upgrade over the next couple of years will only improve the whole experience.
The absolute superstars of the hotel are the staff, they make the hotel a happy and relaxing place.
I will be returning next year for another rest.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are always best.

The only thing that saves this place is the staff, they are fantastic, as for the property it is far from a 4 star we had no hot water for 3 days 1 bottle of wine for an apology, management would not front us to discuss issue, having showers with cockroaches is always fun, the mattresses are so stained you could not tell what color they were, the furniture all needs replacing both inside and out, Bulldozer required.

Room Tip: Choose another location

Unless you are prepared to travel this its not a place I would recommend - there are lots of other options closer to the Western side- In saying that - . If you want to escape the commercial side of Fiji then this is for you.
We had pre-ordered a return transfer from the hotel rather than facing a haggle with a taxi driver at the airport - and after an long flight maybe the pre- arranged transfer was a better option. If you get a tour bus you will be stopping at various resorts along the way which will make the trip even longer and require a really early checkout to make the connection on the way back to Nadi.
On reflection - as there was only the two of us -we should have booked an internal flight to Suva and got picked up there as Pacific Harbour is closer to Suva than Nadi. The drive can be between closer to 3 hours over a sealed road - some parts full of potholes - past villages and other resorts which for a first time visitor to this area can be interesting and scenic- otherwise it can be a chore . Take a drink and some candy as you will get hot and sticky on the drive - regardless of air-conditioning. Ask the driver to stop at a shop and stock up on some bits like snackfoods and beer and mixer drinks as it is expensive at the resort.
The Pearl is a peaceful quiet resort that is desperate need of an update as it is tired - (although I believe currently undergoing renovations (Oct/Nov 2014) . ) The staff however exude that traditional friendliness found in the Fiji islands .
The pool area is good- a safe shallow area for kids too - but the constant shortage of towels was annoying- even if it was Peak time- If you wish to escape children the beach offers plenty of your own space at low tide and also a pleasant walk along the shoreline in either direction . When we were there it was the rainy season and the clouds rolled in at noon everyday - dumped rain on us - then rolled away. The rooms are quiet, clean and adequate - try get a sea view - although the balcony is not wide enough to put 2 chairs and table on to enjoy the view - which we were looking forward to - disappointing.
The gardens are typically Fijian lush green and well maintained - my suggestion is if you are reasonably fit- get in a kayak and explore the waterways on the river and the multi- million dollar properties around the golf course . TAKE A DRINK though!!
Breakfast was included in our deal and was the usual fare of pastries fruit cereals and cake with bacon eggs and ham and beans - I have seen better settings but it was quite adequate without being world class. The restaurant food was average to say the least - we never had one memorable meal, and after a few days we found ourselves going over to the Arts Centre where there are several shops and cafes - the food was better, fresher and tastier as well as cheaper -bonus .
The resort is close (300 - 400 meter walk -) to The Cultural Arts Centre where you can see a traditional Fijian dance group perform. The game fishing charter service can be organised from the Arts centre. The hotel offers many excursions - from the rafting tours or mountain hikes, . If you are after luxury ,shopping and nightlife this resort is NOT for you.

Room Tip: get a sea view room

i wish I could have stayed longer, beautiful people. Great huge room, breakfast was awesome and to overlook the ocean was amazing, sitting on the beach or swimming in the pool. I have no down side to this place. A fantastic place to relax. Well done!!!
