“Not your average resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013

After staying at a few resorts around the world, they all seem the same - a nice pool, a beach, a spa, good food and good company. However, Mana differentiates itself with:
- the warm Fijian welcome and hospitality,
- the free daily cultural activities (there's even a separate schedule for kids which sounded more exciting than the adults schedule!),
- the free unpowered watersports activities, like snorkeling, kayaking, sailing.

Food variety and quality is OK at the buffet, but much better at the south beach restaurant. Book ahead to avoid disappointment. Avoid the meat dishes though, as they didn't taste very fresh - you are on a remote island after all. Water is desalinated and drinkable on the island, but we brought our own just in case. Stock up on your own breakfast/snacks/fruit/alcohol before arriving on the island, to avoid high island prices.

We loved the outdoor walks to the lookouts, and sunset beach, the fantastic snorkeling just off the beach (as mentioned by others, North Beach is the best), and the cultural shows at night (eg/ dance and firedance). The spa treatment prices were much cheaper than 5 star hotels in Nadi, and of a decent quality - we did the couples 3 hour treatment with massage, facial and spa, with a bottle of wine.

There is wifi available for purchase, but why would waste your time online when you could be out there enjoying what Mana has to offer!

The minor imperfections:
- it's a double-edged sword with the family being kid friendly - kids can be quite noisy if staying in an adjoining room.
- staying in a downstairs Ocean View room is a slight disadvantage if you are sensitive to noise at night - especially if the upstairs neighbours are constantly sliding furniture around on the concrete floor, or when the aircon units are constantly running. Sleeping closer to the soothing ocean waves washing onto the beach solves that problem.

We came here for a friend's wedding, and overall we weren't disappointed, with many good memories. A nice introduction to Fiji.

After reading some disgruntled reviews from others, my wife and I arrived at Mana Island not really knowing what to expect.

Well as soon as we arrived, it was just bliss. We ended up getting upgraded to a honeymoon suite and this was just fabulous, private, spacious and clean.

The food at the island was good, big buffet. We decided to have just the breakfast and dinner option, which worked well. Do recommend the South Beach restaurant for dinner, which we did on our last night, amazing seafood.

Facilties were great, we sat by the pool most days and read our books, along with a few yummy cocktails.

If you want a relaxing holiday in the sun, this is the place. We will be back again !

I loved my stay on Mana ... The staff are truly Fabulous and are more like friends by the time your stay is over .... and I truly hope the owners of Mana realise the treasure they hold within their staff members !! The snorkelling is AMAZING and I almost snorkelled the whole Island ..it was that good you could just keep going and I spent the majority of my day in the water .... a definite activity you must try is the sandbar snorkelling trip .... in my week I encountered a wray, turtle and reef shark amongst many other fish. On one day we took a walk along the south beach toward the village and meet some of the village kids who walked with us to the cross on top of the mountain they sung pretty little songs all the way up and this was truly a unique experience !! and the joy on their faces when we surprised them with some Aussie chocolates (that they were totally not expecting) was priceless... The breakfast buffet is not the best but worth the rate inclusion, however the buffet is really over priced for what it is and the quality of what is served, however the south beach restaurant has fab food for a good price !! And if you dare take the short stroll down south beach to the backpackers which serves some great meals also and cheaper drinks !! The island has a full range of activities and I can assure you will never be bored ...check out the bingo at the pool during happy hour !! I will definitely find it hard to want to try another island now I know this one is so good !!

Room Tip: If you enjoy your wine ...grab the duty free on your way out of Australia or way into Fiji

We visited Mana in August and had a wonderful time. The bures are adequate given that you are not expected to do much in them other than sleep. The outdoor shower was a highlight! We also stayed in the Deluxe Oceanfront Bure which was great for the kids as they all seem to meet outside the bures and socialise. Oceanfront Suites, where the rest of the extended family stayed, were also wonderful but lack the Fiji feel that the bures give you. Kids club was good. Water activities were great and we all loved the snorkelling. Food was better than expected and all meals were nice. Pools not great but as we stayed at the Sofitel as well, this didnt matter so much. Family who stayed in the Oceanfront Suites caught garden staff going through personal belongings twice! Do no leave valuables lying around. Use the safes provided. Wonderful place where we all had a ball.

Excellent facilities , fantastic location . Water sports offered are great. No parasailing which was disappointing but should be going again by the time I return. Restaurants were clean and the food was fresh and tasty. Definitely would recommend a trip here. Even if it is just a day trip.

We were only on Mana for 2 nights but had a wonderful time. It is a spectacularly beautiful place and the resort is just fine. We were upgraded automatically on arrival from an Island Bure to one of the beachfront ones on South Beach which of course we were more than happy about. It was well appointed and private and well maintained by the staff during our stay. We only ate food at the Smorgasbord at North Beach one night. It was fine, Asian night the night we were there and the "make your own" noodle stir fry was great. The main reason we didn't eat there all the time is that we were on a bit of a budget and it wasn't cheap....$60 FJ I think. For breakfast we had brought some fruit from the mainland and just had tea and bikkies in our Bure on the last morning. Twice we ate at Mana Lagoon Backpackers where we had 2 wonderful curry meals at reasonable price. I don't think the main resort loves you going there but they can't stop you. It's easy to find. Just walk toward South Beach and turn left. At low tide you can just walk along the beach or at high tide you can walk along the track behind the restaurant, past the turtles and the water sports hut. You go through a gate and just keep walking. It's the second eating place, not the first. The first is Ratu Kini's Backpackers. It might be fine too but we didn't eat there. For our other meals we ate at South Beach restaurant which also has great food. Big servings so one time we shared a meal. They didn't mind. Beef burger and chips recommended. Top tips for Mana TIP1. I had read that the checking in procedure is a bit shambolic and it is a little but if you arrive there expecting it then it shouldn't be a problem. They take your bags away and everybody waits at South beach restaurant and they give you a drink and then eventually they let you leave. So if you are arriving on the early Ferry then pack your swimmers and a bit of other stuff in your hand luggage so you have something to do with yourself while you are waiting to check in, which you should be able to do by @1pm. Eventually you and your bags will be reunited. TIP2. If you are a photographer walk to Sunset beach every afternoon and at least one morning get up before the sun and head to the little hill at western end of North beach. It's a nice little walk through the rainforest and spectacular views at the top. TIP3 Don't snorkel where everybody else does. There are some amazing spots with wonderful coral and fish but you have to be a bit adventurous. Just be a little careful after the top of the tide as there is a little bit of current pulling away from the beach in some spots. TIP4. If you are a visitor, then don't walk or stand on the coral. If you work at the resort then please put some restrictions on the idiotic few who walk all over the reef at low tide or use the coral outcrops as resting stations. You can see where they've been and it aint pretty. If you want to have an island without a decent reef attraction, then just keep doing what you are doing........All that said, the staff at Mana are wonderful and we had an unforgettable time there.
