Having just returned from our romantic escape to Lomani I feel that I have to make other couples aware of what Lomani can offer. On our arrival we were greeted with a traditional welcome song,it was then that the magic began. We found the service to be exceptional, the staff are always willing to please, and do so with a magnificent friendly manner, just remember that you are on an island retreat and that the fijians are to use their own phrase "on Fijian Time"which means that they do things at a leisurely pace,no need to hurrry in such a relaxing atmosphere. We found the food in the restaurant exceptional and we dined at a romantic table set up on the beach every night,WOW !never have I seen such incredible sunsets,we took a bottle of champagne with us and experienced this every night on the beach. There are also lots of free watersports to participate in such as glass bottomed kayaks, hobie cats and snorkeelling straight off the beach, again amazing.!After taking an island hoping day trip I knew that we had made the perfect choice on choosing Lomani for our romantic getaway Thanks for the memories we hope to return again.Kerrie and Darren.xxVinaka

My husband and I honeymooned at Lomani for 8 nights (almost 3 weeks ago now), and I have decided it's time to write a review!

First and foremost I need to thank each and every one of the hotel staff for making our honeymoon the time of our lives. Rajesh, Cia, Dee, Tui, Nash, Paul, Other Paul "my name" Porter, Setita, Tevita, Koresi, Lini, Lolly,Mani, Mangi, (and those I may have missed), thank you. Boom takalakalaka!!!!!

On to the review: max. capacity at the moment is 24 guests. This makes Lomani intimate and personal. The staff will know your name by the end of the first day. They will say, "bula!" to you every time they see you! You'll get to know the other guests as well. There is plenty of room for privacy and intimacy, but the relaxed atmosphere had everyone socialising as well.

My husband and I stayed in room 11, and were impressed with the size. The king sized bed was comfy and roomy. We loved the outdoor shower, we never used the indoor shower during our stay! Room 11 has it's own little porch with deck chairs, and is the closest Hibiscus Suite to the beach. This is not a brand spanking new hotel, but all was neat as a pin and well cared for, and for heavens sake-- take a look outside if some chipped paint is bothering you!

Beach and water are magical. Typical "South Pacific" setting, coconuts, crystal clear ocean, frangipanis, sun, and heat. Heaven. You'll find Lomani offers free activities, just check out the chalkboard in the lobby each morning to make your plans. The Paul's will then pop you in the boat and off you'll go for snorkelling, hand line fishing, or a village tour.

My husband and I took advantage of the free bikes, (these are island bike folks, no brakes, no helmets, but live a little, you can bail into turquoise water if need be!!!) We cycled all over the island, and were always happy to come home to our Lomani. We also loved the "glass bottom" kayaks, as there is a reef fairly close into the beach and it's an easy paddle to majestic coral and fish.

Another activity that we loved was the 4:00pm volleyball sessions. The staff from all of the resorts on the island get some serious games going, and the Lomani team quickly adopted my very tall/fit husband for the games. They even had me playing by the end of our stay!

Food was great. We booked for a meal plan, so all of our food was included. We found that we were very well fed, and it was great to try something new each night. Do be prepared for some of menu items to be unavailable. This is an island and as ingredients may prove challenging, I'd personally rather be told and item is unavailable, than be served sub par food. Not a problem for us, we just chose a different item and moved on.
We loved our romantic dinner on the beach, so much in fact that on our last night Mani and Koresi carried a table to our "porch" and we had dinner there. We were even serenaded by the Pauls. Divine.

Alcohol: good selection of beers and wine, be prepared to pay island prices for it. We went straight into the mixed cocktails, plenty of value for the money- $15 per cocktail, but don't worry, there is $15 worth of alcohol! Kava if you're lucky, just give it a try, you're on holidays!

All in all, amazing for us. It was the people that made it, staff and the new faces as well. If you sink into Fiji and go with what the day brings you'll have an amazing trip at Lomani.

We booked to stay at Lomani for our Wedding and it was the most spectacular experience of my life! The service was incredible, the staff were beyond amazing and we are already planning our 1 year anniversary trip back there! If you want a place that makes you feel like you are the only person/couple there, then this is it. The staff go beyond their call of duty to make everything special and perfect for you, not just for our wedding day, but EVERY day. From the minute we arrived to all the staff singing a welcome song, to the minute we left with a lot of tears and a good bye song, we were made to feel special. Being a smaller resort with only 12 rooms, (more coming soon) the staff knew when you wanted alone-time or they would come looking for you if you had merely mentioned you like fishing or snorkeling and they have a fishing or snorkeling trip on that day (all of which was free)!
Sure, a cocktail might take 4 minutes to get to you instead of the usual 2 minutes we expect in our normal rat-race, but you're on "Fiji-time" too, so what's the hurry?!!! We completely forgot the outside world and took in every second of this tropical paradise! Having a wedding there and trying to stick to a budget was easy, the cocktail night when we arrived gave us a chance to organise a cameraman and photographer (eternal thanks Ben and Vanessa!!) and also made us really remember all the staffs names! They know your names after about 30 seconds so it's a good thing to take theirs in! They are the most gentle, relaxed and happy people we have ever met and feel like a second family now as most attended our wedding or took part in it somehow or another, from making the flower arch to decorating our wedding table, everything was done to perfection without a complaint.
The rooms were extremely nice, if not a little too big in the hibiscus suites (room 9), and the deluxe suites were terrific (room 3)! If you spend most of the day on the beach you should expect a little sand in your room so for this we didnt expect our rooms to be swept and made spotless every day, even telling the cleaner one day not to worry about our room, made her feel special and she too cried when saying good bye.
There's no tv there unless you get dvd's from reception, but who wants that when you're on holidays! At night you are too busy drinking Kava (good work Alvin and Kylie!!) or listening to everyone singing!!
There's supermarkets nearby, at Plantation resort, for beer, snacks, newspapers etc, and the food is exceptional at Ananda's, which can be charged back to your room at Lomani! Food at Lomani is ever changing so you can pretty much ask for what you want without a hassle!
All in all this was a magical, romantic, getaway with lots to do with your family without your family being there! What an incredible place! See you at Lomani next year guys!!!

We paid more than if we had stayed at the Orient Express in Sydney and in return received a lack of service, unclean rooms and below average food. The menu at the resort was extensive, but the quality of the food was average, with a little bit of pot luck around the ingredients in the meal, i.e. the same meal could be different on two consecutive days.
The rooms were tired and the cleanliness questionable, while the service was slow and guests could be easily forgotten by the staff.
The most insulting part of the experience, was the Spa. To call it a spa is ridiculous - this was a fluorescent lit room with the radio playing and rags to cover you. It would have been much better if they had just sold the massage experience as a real Fijian massage on the beach. There is no way this could be considered a spa. The website is extremely misleading.

Having said all this, the beach is lovely, it is relaxing and the activities are fun. If this place was marketed for what it is and the price was adjusted accordingly, it would be worth visiting, but if you want luxury this is not it. We feel like we have been taken advantage of.
Oh, and don't forget that it is on the same island as two other holiday resorts (one aimed at families) and a time-share resort.

We have recently returned from 8 nights at Lomani Island Resort, adults only resort on Malolo Lai Lai Island in August 2008. If you enjoy snorkelling, swimming and being around water I would highly recommend it. We stayed in a Hibiscus Suite and had a great time at Lomani – thoroughly enjoyed our time & got a nice tan. Lomani is only a 50 minute boat ride on the Malolo Cat from Port Denarau (20 minutes from Nadi airport) – very easy to get to. The resort staff pick you up from the jetty in their electric cart & drive you (a couple of minutes) to Lomani where you are welcomed by singing staff – terrific. We enjoyed lots of aspects of our stay so I’ll just list them:– the outside private shower in the Suite, such a treat to be able to shower outside + warm and sunny days, one after the other + daily free activities like snorkelling in the clear, warm ocean + great sunset viewing + 35metre freshwater pool at Lomani + Flame Tree Restaurant and the tables right beside the sea with your feet resting in sand + great breakfast which is included in the overnight rate + comfortable chairs & hammocks scattered throughout the resort + the availability of free kayaks including a clear floor kayak - great for viewing the reef and fish off shore. We also enjoyed the quiteness of being on an island which had few motorised vehicles and mostly, electric carts - bliss. A few points to note: there were a few mosquitos (not many) around the feet at dinner time but the restaurant has Aeroguard available. We arrived when the tide was out and the beach does not look good at this time so don’t be shocked like we were. When the tide comes in the water is crystal clear and you want to leap right in – the water is so warm! Lomani Island Resort is right beside Plantation Island Resort & we often walked to Plantation (an easy 10 minutes walk) to grab a sandwich for lunch or coffee from their 2 cafe style stores. You don’t have to do this though as the Flame Tree Restaurant at Lomani is available for all meals if you prefer. Musket Cove Resort is a little further around – maybe a 20 minute walk and provides another option for lunch or dinner but to be honest, we ended up eating most of our evening meals at the Flame Tree Restaurant at Lomani Island Resort because it was such a beautiful spot (looking straight over grass towards the ocean) & the food was mostly good. To add variety to our stay we also took advantage of other paid activities available from Plantation Island Resort ie the Dolphin Safari & Snorkelling – 2.5 hours($31Australian each) and the 5 Island Resort Tour – an all day tour of nearby island resorts ($61 Australian each) visiting Treasure Island, Beachcomber, Mana, Castaway, Malolo. We came back from the 5 Island Resort Tour feeling so happy that we had chosen Lomani. There were some minor issues about Lomani that are the reason I gave it an above average rating (but not the highest available rating). These include the availability of beach towels which are sometimes available and sometimes not, the airconditioner did not cope with the afternoon sun so the suite got a bit hot for an hour or 2 in the afternoon, the ongoing supply of shampoo, etc was a bit light on for an 8 night stay but put in perspective - these were minor issues & would we go back? Yes! Absolutely! It’s terrific!

  • Liked — Closeness to the beach & the overall appearance of Lomani - very relaxing
  • Disliked — Minor issues I've listed in my review

Lomani is a beautiful resort and perfect for a quiet relaxing break. We used tripadvisor to pick out this specific resort and the majority of reviews are accurate in their description. We without doubt made the right choice.

We stayed in one of the "deluxe" rooms which are the cheaper of the two types. The rooms are very clean/tidy and well presented and more than comfortable (air con/fans etc). There are 8 deluxe rooms in total over two stories- we were on the ground floor which was nice as you can walk directly onto the lawn in front and down to the beach. We had friends who had previously stayed on the first floor, and they had no complaints. The deluxe rooms aren't new, I would guess 10-15yrs.

As others have commented, the staff are very friendly and are great to chat to. The standard of service was more than acceptable, a little slower than you'd expect from back home but hey who cares, you're on holiday!

The pool is beautiful and one of the highlights for me of the entire resort.

We ate dinner at Lomani twice during our 5nt stay, and did not opt for the meal plan based on others advice. I think we made the right choice, the meals we had at Lomani were acceptable but we preferred our other meals at Plantation Island, Musket Cove and Anandas Restaurant. The atmosphere and mood is without question best at Lomani, the other resorts are overrun with hyperactive children and cheesy entertainment. Anandas is next to the island airstrip and overlooks the development of a new marina so the atmosphere isn't great either.

As others have mentioned Lomani organise daily activities, at no extra charge. We only did the snorkeling activity and can highly recommend the trip (only takes an hour or so). We used the kayaks once which was cool (they have glass bottoms so you can see below etc). They also have two Hobie Cats you can use, but unfortunately there was never enough wind when the tide was in during our stay.

I can also recommend bringing your own alcohol, drinks are not cheap! The local drop is called Fiji Bitter and is the cheapest of the lot. Lomani's cocktails were priced at FJ$15.
We arrived by Malolo Cat from Port Denarau and returned via Helicopter (see IslandHoppers).

One of our best holidays yet!

Our travel Agent recommended Lomani as this was our Honeymoon and they felt it was going to be more authentic and romantic than a mainland name brand Hotel.
We didn't get off to a good start as there was no one there to pick us up when we landed, and when we got to our resort our room wasn't ready for another hour.
The location is fantastic and our room was wonderful. It had an outdoor shower which was great fun and was close to the lovely outdoor restaurant.
The food was good, but not great and like the wine list I found it to be quite limited. It didn't change in the 5 nights we were there. I guess we had the choice of perhaps ten different mains.
Fortunately we could eat at the neighbouring Planation Island resort two hundred meters up the beach or at the islands other restaurants, and charge the bill back to our room. Still I felt all the meals were all basicaly average. Nothing wrong with them, but nothing special either.
A lovely thing for us was to eat dinner at Plantation on the beach 6 feet from the gentle lapping water, watching kids play in the sea rather than eating their dinners...made us miss our kids!
My wife and I enjoyed using the resorts kayak and relaxing by their big uncrowded pool, sipping cocktails all afternoon.
It was disappointing that we had to walk to the bar to order and fetch our own drinks as no one was available to do poolside orders. Even then they still took 20 minutes to be made.
We were unable to have one of those typical island cocktails served in a fresh coconut as they were constantly running out of coconuts. I guess considering our surroundings, that this was code for 'can't be bothered getting one for you'
The biggest issue we had on our honeymoon wasn't with Lomani resort, but with the nextdoor Plantation Island resort.
Because Plantation, Musket Cove and Lomani all share the same island, many of the facilities they have are shared too.
This includes dive, fishing, and sightseeing boat trips as well as use of their kayaks.
We decided to use one of their kayaks one day. It was the same style of Kayak we have at home with a dry conpartment for towels and valuables in the rear.
We were paddling for about 5 minutes when we noticed we were sinking. Luckily we were close to shore so we jumped off and pulled the kayak onto the beach. We were most upset to find our brand new SLR camera with all our Honeymoon photos in it underwater. To cut a long story short Plantation Island took no responsibility for their faulty equipment, and even tried to deny there was such an issue with their equipment until some Aussies came forward and said they saw some of the staff try and hide it from view, but were unable to move it far due to it's waterlogged weight.
They did offer us two disposable camera's, but only if we would state that this absolved them of any responsibility for their unmaintained equipment. We didn't take them up on their 'generous' offer.
Their final conclusion was that's what happens sometimes..too bad, but thats what you have travel insurance for.
Suffice to say this left us cold and really put a damper on our once in a lifetime honeymoon!
Bewear of Plantation Island. It's all smiles when things are going well, but we were treated terribly during what should have been one of the most exceptional experiences of our lives.
The only reason we took their kayak was that when we had turned up there for our specially booked boat ride to another island (the one Tom Hanks was on when they filmed the movie Castaway) they told us that because we were the only ones booked on the trip it wasn't worth their while to take us.
It still makes me angry thinking of the whole episode again, as there is just nothing you can do there, and certainly no justice or the like.

On my previous two trips to Fiji in 1984 and again in 1993 with my parents, we stayed at the Shangri La Fijian Resort. I'm not sure if it was youthful idealism or the fact I was paying this time, and still not considering the whole Plantation thing I felt somewhat disappointed with the whole experience.
The staff at Lomani were lovely, kind, modest and gentle. They were all fine people but after spending over $5000NZ for a weeks accomodation I expected more. There maybe Fiji time, but that shouldn't impair standards. Perhaps if they were a little more attentive and pampered us a bit more, I might have felt differently.
Next time we go we are going to a place that has standards, and feels their guests are the most important part of the equation.
Probably back to The Fijian resort.
