“Amazing Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2014

Recently my family and I visited Malolo Lailai. We stayed at PLantation Island Resort, which is a whole other story.

We had dinner at Dicks, a long with a large group of "food refugees", from Plantation.

The meal at Dicks was truly outstanding, one of the finest meals i've ever had. Sadly we didnt discover this earlier in our stay. However, next time we will stay at Musket Cove and enjoy the fine food each day.

Our family were all at Muscat Cove for a wedding. We all found it to be a relaxing place to stay. The staff could not have been more helpful especially for the wedding.
The pool area is nice and the gardens all well looked after.
There are quite a few free water sports to participate in including snorkelling, kayaking and wind surfing to name a few. Then more options like fishing trips, diving (paid.)
Our family stayed over various accommodations and we were all happy with them.
Rooms well looked after, clean and serviced daily.

The only downside was after staying for 11 days we were sick of the menu!
We could not order from the lunch menu for something simpler in the evening.
In general they need a few more options on the menu.

The breakfasts were great, a really good choice available and we all loved the "monuts" !!

We will all return again for sure.
Hopefully when the new building work is complete.

Room Tip: It all depends how close to the water you wish to be. Ocean, lagoon or garden. All pretty good.

Feels like a world away! Amazing service at a stunning location. Rented bicycles and visited neighboring hotels and beaches on the other side of the island. Stayed in a garden bureau which had had a separate lounge. Manager held drinks to meet guests, very welcoming. Nai and her team made us feel at home! Loved every minute! Will definitely return!

Just returned from 6 days at Musket Cove Resort. It was our second visit. Our first a few years ago which we obviously enjoyed or would not have returned. Has been a bit of development since our last visit. Too much in my opinion. They were in the process of building a couple of large structures during our stay and I did not appreciate being woken up at 7am by the noise and it went to 5pm. They could at least have waited to 8am to commence work as after all we supposely went for some peace and quiet. Our beachfront bure was spacious and immaculate and serviced each day. Free cookies were also delivered every day. The Fijian staff as always were very friendly and welcoming. Bicycles could be hired for 30 Fijian dollars per day. Free snorkelling trips twice a day. I found the restaurant wanting. Dinner menu never changed except for the Pig on a spit night and Curry night which is tough if you dont like Curry. Pig night is also Meke night where locals give Fijian culture with Fijian traditional songs which is very good. A couple of nights we got some food from the shop and used the Bar B Qs provided for a change of menu. The bbq,s are located on the small island next to the Marina where the tourist boaties hang out and has a bar as well. Very informal. The shop is good if you want to get groceries and soft drinks etc and make your own meals if your happy with sandwiches and BBQ.There was a wedding organised one evening which to us [pair of oldies] was rather offputting as the reception was held adjoining the dining/ lounge room and they had a DJ playing what to us at least was [LOUD] rubbish which over rode the Fijian music being played by the local band in the restaurant and when we retired for the night kept us awake. There are two other resorts on the island, Plantation resort and Lomani. You can visit these resorts and even eat in their restaurants. I wouldnt bother with Plantation as its over run with children and very noisy. Lomani has a no kids policy but is expensive as hell. This was our 7th visit to Fiji and despite our good times will be our last. Fiji like any tourist destination is expanding rapidly. On our first visit in 1987 their were very few resorts. Now there are countless resorts and we have noticed a decline in the appreciation of the Fijian culture by visitors. Tourists now seem to just go to have a good time and not interested in the local culture. You only have to read the other reviews. Hardly a word about the culture. Sad.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms near the Marina, Can be noisy

Bula and thanks for your feedback
Sorry your not a fan of our improvements. I'm sure you'll change your mind when completed. One thing I'd like to express is that it is the owners intention to enhance the Musket experience, not take it away. Our resort is proudly Fijian and I promise that these improvements will greatly improve the overall guest experience.
I'd like to apologise for any inconvenience caused. Fortunately our resort is well spread out and the works are limited to the marina area. We have been extremely vigilant during this process and your right. There was some unacceptable early morning noise during your stay. This shouldn't have happened and has since been rectified.
Musket is a popular wedding destination and we do all we can to minimise inconvenience to other guests. Including curfew on music. With our recently opened MCYC Island bar we have another location for weddings. Which allows the wedding party to celebrate, whilst maintaining peace and quiet in the resort. It must also be said that we are not a wedding factory and that we limit the number of weddings . Giving all guests a great stay.
Great to hear that overall you enjoyed.

I have just returned to Vancouver from Fiji a couple of days ago. During my visit I was fortunate enough to stay at the Armstrong Island villas at Musket Cove Island Resort.
What a beautiful experience!
The resort has been designed and built to honor the Fijian culture. The interior and exterior of the villas are elegant and yet understated. They blend in wonderfully with the water views and beautifully landscaped grounds. The relaxed and stress free environment is contagious, and starts from the moment that you arrive and are greeted by a troupe of local singers offering you a warm Fijian welcome. The boat ride over from Denerau is very enjoyable, and the route takes you through picturesque scenery as you travel amongst the smaller islands.
The accommodation is spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Outside there is a large verandah that is private, and facilitates a few cocktails before dinner! The outlook ( especially at sunset) is unforgettable. We stayed in a two bedroom villa, and all our needs were catered for. It was nicely furnished and well equipped. There was a private swimming pool shared by a small number of the villas. This was extra to the larger pool near the restaurant . The surrounding areas makes diving and snorkeling a great pastime. There are also short boat trips to nearby islands.
We dined at Dick's Place restaurant on several occasions and we were never disappointed. The food and service was very good.
There is a boutique on the island and it has a nice selection of kaftans and casual evening wear for the ladies and nice tropical shirts for men. There is also a selection of local souvenirs /hats /sunscreens etc..
There is some necessary rebuilding going on at Musket Cove at the moment ( but this is in a location that does not impact your visit) The local cafe and supply store was struck by lightening during a recent storm, and so a newer and more expanded facility is being rebuilt. It will be completed in a couple of months. There is still available a small grocery store that is adequately stocked to meet your needs.
All the staff are very helpful and friendly. There was a wedding taking place on one of the nights we were there........what a romantic place for any special occasion.
I have wonderful memories of this island paradise and would recommend it without hesitation.

Room Tip: Try and book one of the Armstrong Villas with a sea outlook

Loved everything about this place! Beautiful snorkelling areas, clean and serene beaches and friendly staff!

Our room was perfect! Great spot with a barge!

They also offer chic white bicycles to move freely around the island and I was even able to teach my friend how to ride!

Best memories were made during our stay in Musket Cove!

And the owners are so lovely for treating us to a few Lychee Martinis on our last night!

Best 3 days ever!

Room Tip: Rooms on a separate little island offer a secluded feeling with it's own swimming pool!

My wife and I travelled from Ireland to be with our daughter in Fiji. She recommended Musket Cove and we were thrilled with her recommendation. We stayed in Armstrong and loved it eventhough we managed to get lost on the first evening when going to dinner !!.Signage could be better ! The food was excellent and we considered it to be good quality and good value. When one considers that one is on a small island in the middle of the ocean we felt value was good. The staff are lovely particularly Asana(?) in Dicks Restaurant.
Sunset at the Island Bar is not to be missed. Weather was great .
We loved the trip to Castaway and the snorkelling. The highlight was,of course, the trip to Cloud 9. Don't miss this fabulous trip. The 2 boatmen were really helpfull.
This was part of a holiday of a lifetime for us and we were thrilled to have visited the beautiful Musket Cove. We even met the owner in the supermarket !!
The welcome was so friendly and everyone was so kind and regularly checked to see that we had enjoyed ourselves. My daughter and her partner will return to Musket Cove over the next few months. That must surely be a strong recommendation.
Terrific
