“Great beach access. Room poor value compared to other Gulf Coast beachfront rooms.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2014

We have made over a dozen trips to the Gulf Coast beaches. While overall a "good" stay, first the negatives: at $183.50 per night for a non-beachfront room and an 18" balcony too small to set a chair on, one expects a bathroom at least large enough not to require a pocket-door (and with a shower that does not resemble the plastic insert in an RV). The carpet in the hallway on the ground floor smelled of mildew, as it did on the sixth floor. Another reviewer mentioned questions about the safety of the elevator--they do noticeably shudder and groan (more noticeable in the one in the back of the building), but it was not so bad that we didn't use it. Humorously, the elevator inspection certificates are not displayed on the elevators. Housekeeping is loud in the hallways beginning around 8:30 and will knock incessantly on your door by 8:45 a.m. (came back three times one morning) if you do not hang the Do Not Disturb sign, or if it goes missing, even if you are there for a multiple night stay. On the positive side, Sleep Inn's front desk personnel were friendly, and the room, though in an older hotel and cramped for space, was clean. The bed was comfortable, the walls and doors minimized noise from other guests. In other pluses: the beach is clean and accessible, the hotel will provide towels for the pool if needed, the chair rental guy on the beach is friendly and affordable, and parking was adequate for the crowd on an April weekend. Overall a "Good" stay, but not worthy of a "Very Good". (It would earn a C+ in a good school, but not a B-.) We've had true beachfront walk outs with more amenities at lower prices on the Florida Panhandle even "in season".

Room Tip: There are only 25-30 beachfront rooms in the hotel. We heard others checking in who were certain th...

We got room 616, which is called a non-ocean view. We had a great view. The balcony is enough to stand on. The AC didn't work great in our room, but it was April, so it worked well enough for our stay. I don't think the ocean view rooms, unless you're above the 2nd floor would be worth the extra $, because you are looking right onto the pool area, and everyone out there could be looking in. We had a bit of noise before bedtime and in the morning from what was probably the ice machine, but we had a decent night's sleep. We could feel the springs in the mattress a bit. The pocket door to the bathroom was not an issue for us. great space-saver. if you've never used a pocket door, you haven't lived long enough. lol. We skipped breakfast because we had such a big dinner the night before at the Original Oyster House in Gulf Shores (delicious!), which was fine, because it looked pretty busy in the breakfast area. The room is a bit worn, but anything by the beach gets pretty battered. We enjoyed the location. Plenty of shopping nearby.

Room Tip: east side above third floor has best view if you don't want to pay from "ocean view"...

We recently stayed here for spring break with the kids. We stayed here 4 nights. It averaged out to around $100 a night. Overall, we enjoyed the stay and it was very affordable. The hotel had great beach access and views. The morning breakfast was good, too. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

The only bad things I would say is that the rooms are small and the elevators are SCARY. The elevators pull, jerk, and squeak and squeal real bad.

Room Tip: Side rooms have good view of ocean, too.

Decent hotel and right on the beach which is what we wanted. It's an older hotel in need of some updating. Elevators are slow. Staff is friendly and helpful. Our room was on the 5th floor and had a decent view of the beach. Breakfast area was a little small. Only one toaster and two waffle makers. We stayed here while on Spring Break, so we should have been up earlier to avoid the crowds at breakfast.

Room Tip: If you don't want to pay the extra for beach front, ask for a room on the east side of the hotel...

This hotel has a prime location on a beautiful beach. Access to the beach is easy. Be sure to upgrade to the beachfront rooms, as that added a lot to our stay. The balcony is not really that great. It was very small - about 3ft wide with 2 chairs, so don't plan on spending too much time there. This hotel looks like an older property and there were some repairs that needed to be done, as well as some freshening. Breakfast was average. The location was perfect, with restaurants nearby, and even a Dairy Queen across the street.

Only stayed one night here but wow! Great view. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. Beautiful beach with private access. Too bad we did not get to enjoy the beach due to the rain but still enjoyed the view. A morning breakfast buffet is in the lobby but we chose to go exploring to find a local place to eat. Check in and check out were very friendly and quick.

Room Tip: request an ocean view

The overwhelming factor for the hotel is its location. It is located on a superb beach with a private beachfront, across the street is a shopping center, and within a couple of miles is a variety of restaurants. Most of the rooms have a small balcony with a decent view of the Gulf. What else can you want?
The hotel is a standard Sleep Inn. The room is small and efficiently organized. The bathroom is very small with a shower only. This hotel is not new, but is clean and fairly well maintained. The breakfast is standard fare.
This hotel is great if you only have a hotel room as a place to sleep. Since this is my usual use for a motel room I find Sleep Inns to be satisfactory. But this hotel has a superb location.
