“A decent hotel on the best part of the Gulf”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2012

We thoroughly enjoyed our recent trip to Orange Beach. It was our first time staying on Alabama's Gulf Coast.

We arrived at The Island House at around 12:30 PM and were greeted enthusiastically by a man at the front desk. They have a porter service, who carried our bags to our room for us. The keys at this hotel are actual keys, so make sure you don't misplace them. They give you a card at check in, on with which you can charge food and drinks from the in hotel restaurant to your bill.

The rooms are decent. This feels like an older hotel in terms of design. We had a standard room on the 8th floor. The view was wonderful and the balcony is large, with two chairs and a small table. The only problem with the room was there was hair in the bathroom when we arrived. The king bed was very comfortable, lots of pillows and nice sheets and matress.

The beach is gorgeous. The Island House has a huge stretch of beach, with wodden lounge chairs/cushions and unbrellas for rent for $20 a set. There is a decent pool deck with a hot tub and plenty of chairs.

Across the street from the hotel is a gas station, a liquor store, a restaurant, and a live bait shop. The Island House is on the best stretch of beach in the area. There are condos on either side, but it is close to the harbor, just a few miles to the Flora-Bama and several restaraunts, and near a Publix shopping center.

Bottom line, we realized that Orange Beach is the place for us and the Island House was great for a short weekend. It's less congested and commercialized than Destin/Ft. Walton and much more upscale than Panama City Beach. We will certainly stay at the Island House again in the future.

The only negatives I can come up with are that the prices are a bit high for an older hotel and, like I said, the hair we found on the bathroom floor.

Wishing we were back already!

Room Tip: Higher level rooms have the best views. Regular rooms do not have fridge or microwaves.

This hotel was very nice, we stayed one night and had no problems. I did not like having found hair all over in the rooms and no conditioner for us. People were very friendly, I would recommend but advise that it is one of the pricier hotels on the beach.

For breakfast in Orange Beach this is hard to beat! Not your tourist kind of place either, recommended by my friend and manager of the Seafarer Condominiums in Perdido Key, Dan Wagaman, this small restaurant makes you feel special; clean, quiet and downright friendly - oh, the eggs and grits are cooked just how you like them. For breakfast, just trust me on this one, you'll like it.

Stayed one night for an event at Orange Beach. Nothing really fancy about the hotel or the rooms. But they were clean. I had an ocean-view room up high so it was quiet. location on the beach is a plus.

Currently staying at the hotel and I must say I am not that impressed! Nice location, nice beach, nice friendly staff BUT room was dirty (wear socks or house shoes because floor is greasy feeling and just nasty), can tell this place is older, watch out because you can lock yourself out of the room on the balcony very easy, NO refrigerator, NO microwave, NO nothing just a place to sleep. For the price I guess I just expected alittle more than this, will not be returning!

This place is an older establishment yet has many amenities like newer ones. All rooms face the gulf. There is a small cafe on the ground floor that serves breakfast and lunch. We had breakfast there one day and received a hearty amount of food for a good price. They also have a buffet on weekends and a bar on the premises.

Most rooms are the same in regards to style and space. This trip we opted for a penthouse suite on the tenth floor. They have a lot more space with 2 seperate rooms and 2 bathrooms. All the suites on the 10th floor cost more yet I believe are well worth it when compared to other hotels that may offer penthouse suites.

There is a nice size pool and ample lounger space around the pool as well. The white sand beach is the best around and offers countless hours to enjoy the sun and water.

The staff is always helpful with info about the surrounding areas including restaurants and pubs / bars. Its location is close to many good restaurants and Gulf Shores as well.

Room Tip: The top floor has all penthouse suites with large rooms and 2 bathrooms. All rooms face the gulf.

Just arrived at hotel today. Very friendly staff so far but the horror as begun while unpacking my room. I have found mildew and hair on both bed linens! Old cigarette butt on floor! Dirt on tile! The door to the balcony is rusted out at the bottom allowing a nice hole from inside to outside! I did not expect much but I definitely expected clean. We've been staying in orange beach for years but only in condos. Pretty sure we won't make this mistake again!
