we just returned from eating at calypso joes. The service was so so and the food was terrible. My husband ordered the cuban pork dinner. when the food came they gave him the cuban sandwich. They switched out the dinners. The cuban dinner had uncooked rice under the pork. when we brouight this to their attention they said so what. My husband did not eat the pork but did eat the miniscule amount of vegetables that were on the plate. When the bill came they charged full price for the dinner. After arguing with the manager we had to pay 10 dollars for the uncooked meal. They will never have our business again and i hope other people do not have the same experience we did on vacation. Shame on the restaurant for not trying to make things right.

Heard good reviews, but we were not impressed. We were told 20 min for a table, and it took 40, and they did not appear that busy. Our food took an exceptionally long time to come out once we did order. When we got our food, it was fine, but not that great. The restaurant is off the beaten path a little bit, in the midst of a marina. It was kind of a neat atmosphere, but it was very quiet, which made it kind of weird. We are guessing things are a little more festive in the summer months. (We went in mid-May.) Overall, the food was average and the service was below average.

When we finally received our food after waiting 45 minutes it was very tasty. Unfortunately we had to ask twice for our children's drinks and none of our service request were met. Waiter did not know the menu and did not answer our questions regarding entrees correctly. We ordered a mango cocktail which tasted good but had no alcohol in it. We probably still would have returned but after discussing our problems with the manager his only response was, "sorry your ticket was lost."

We tried eating at the restaurant upstairs from Calypso Joe's but it didn't have as nice a view, so we went downstairs and got a table at Calypso Joe's right in front of the yachts in the marina. It was so interesting and the yachts kept coming in and out and it was really a lot of fun to watch everything. I had a melon martini with orange slices and when I squeezed the orange slices into the martini instead of just leaving them as garnish, it made the martini twice as good. The food was incredible; we both had the Caribbean special of jerk chicken and filet and everything we ate was above and beyond any kind of "tourist" food we'd been eating on vacation. The only bad thing about Calypso Joe's were the bathrooms---not very well kept-up, I'm afraid. All in all, we had a wonderful time and would say it's the best overall dining experience we had on vacation.
