“Pleasant Surprise!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2014

If you're willing to sacrifice staying on the beach for a discount, this is the place for you! My boyfriend and I decided to take a last minute trip to get away. The staff was very friendly. The rooms were small but it was very clean. Comfortable. Decent location. Would definitely stay again!

My husband recently spent the month of February at the Fairfield Inn and Suites in Orange Beach, Alabama, and it was the most positive experience we have had at ANY hotel. The staff treated us like old friends, and they did everything in their powers to address our needs. For example, I had a medical procedure during the month and needed to sleep alone with my head elevated. I asked for extra pillows to use on the sleeper sofa, but the manager insisted in bringing in a roll-away bed to ensure my comfort.

The Housekeeping staff came at the exact time we requested each day and always met specific needs--more hangers, a paper, extra towels. I got to the front desk too late one morning to get a paper, and our housekeeper went to the staff break room and brought me their paper.

The breakfast was consistently excellent, and the staff truly took care of us. Even though it was a buffet, they always asked if we needed something. One morning, my husband needed a specific food for his diet, and it appeared!!!

The week before we arrived, Orange Beach suffered an ice storm, and people were told to stay off the roads. The manager was concerned about the people staying at the hotel because there is no full-time restaurant at Fairfield Inns. She didn't want her "guests" trying to get on the roads so she cooked both lunch and dinner for EVERYONE for two days--at no charge. I know about this because guests who were there told me about it, and they said she didn't fix cold sandwiches but hot meals!

The manager is always looking at small details--getting breakfast room chairs recovered, getting new patio furniture, ensuring that everything is bright, clean, and comfortable. The lobby and breakfast area were always in top shape--as was our room.

To the person, everyone was wonderful. When we made the reservation, my husband asked for a specific room and that was arranged. When we checked out, the housekeeping staff gave us a "We'll Miss You" that was signed by everyone. Where else does that happen?

Needless to say, we will return!

Room Tip: We stayed for a month so we were in a suite on the north side by the pool and had no problems. If yo...

We stayed one night to be able to visit with family. The decor is very fresh and modern. The rooms was very comfortable. There were a million teenagers staying in the hotel for a sporting event but there was absolutely no noise issues and there was food left over at breakfast after they were finished! They had plenty of staff on hand to deal with keeping the breakfast bar well stocked! It is not on the beach but still a nice setting on the lagoon. Had no problems with wifi and was able to "stream" as needed.

Stayed one night in February and got a very fair rate. This is a nice, clean facility. It is NOT on the beach but borders a pleasant lagoon and is in a decent setting. It is easy to drive to a public access on the great beaches in the area. The hotel is close to a great bike/walking trail system in Gulf State Park. Beds were good and the wireless worked well. When we called for reservations and when we checked in we were able to deal with experienced adults - we appreciate that.

Dear Dave62,
We appreciate you taking the time to share your hotel experience and comments regarding the area. Our main goal is to accommodate our guest to their satisfaction. Our Fairfield Inn & Suites Hotel is in Orange Beach, not on the beach. Sometimes people think that we are on the beach because we are in Orange Beach. Thank you for pointing this out. We are walking distance to the beach, but we also provide a (golf cart) shuttle back and forth to the main road. The kids love the ride. We sit back quietly on a beautiful pond with turtles and other wildlife. Again, we appreciate your positive comments. Thank you for staying with us. We hope to serve you again in the near future.

My wife and I spent two nights at this hotel and had a mixed experience. First, the good. The staff is superb - friendly, helpful, professional and knowledgeable about the area. Customer service is their forte'. The senior rate of $81 a night is excellent for an OB hotel and that is what attracted us in the first place (although we usually check out the available Marriott hotels first). The complimentary cold/hot breakfast was very good and provided a good array of options. We stayed in an executive suite which was a perfect layout for us - a sitting area in between the sleeping and bathroom areas. Works well for us - my wife likes to sleep in and I like to get up at 5:30 and escape to have coffee and catch up on emails and the news. Now for the not so good. The heating/AC unit was a wall/window unit which constantly cycled, very loudly, on and off. It made having a restful night's sleep difficult. (The manager said the units will be replaced in the near future.) The wifi signal in the room was marginal at best - my iPad was barely usable and my wife's mini iPad was unusable for the internet or email. (The staff was somewhat surprised by this and offered to change our rooms but this was not a business trip so it was not as big a deal as it could have been. In a discussion with the manager he noted Marriott intends to start charging for wifi, even at the Fairfield Inn level.) The microwave and refrigerator were very small and there was no freezer compartment. These may be limiting factors for anyone planning on preparing and eating meals in the room. Lastly, on the first day we found a wayward hair, not one of ours, in the bathroom sink. I dismissed this as an understandable but minor issue. But the next day there were other strands of hair under the sink and in the tub. I brought this to the attention of the manager and he said he would address it with the housekeeping crew. If one wants to be on the beach, this is not the hotel for you. It is located across the beach road, although a Winn-Dixie and Walmart are within walking distance. The manager said a golf cart is available to take folks to the beach road and then there is a public access to the beach. Again there were pluses and minuses about this hotel. My wife said she would not return. I would possible give it another shot especially when one factors in the cost.

Room Tip: Select a north facing room on the top floor away from the elevator and ice machine. While you can s...

I was excited that we had the good fortune for my husband's business to have a meeting in this nice hotel. There was a hot tub, heated pool, fitness room, and an included hot breakfast. AND the staff was obviously focused on customer service. They always greeted us by name when we came through the lobby and our needs were promptly addressed with every request.

Room # 1 - Upon arrival we were very impressed with the layout and décor of our room. The spacious bathroom was immediately to the left of the entry. There was also a coffee maker, microwave, and refrigerator in a little alcove in the entry. Continuing straight ahead was a comfortable sitting area with a sofa, a chair, a desk and chair, and a flat screen television. The next area was the sleeping area where there were two beds with lovely white coverlets, stacks of pillows, a closet, a bench for sitting, another flat screen television, and plenty of wall space for the luggage rack and other personal effects. Lots of attention was given to bright clean carpet and other items of décor like paintings on the walls, extra mirrors, and lamps with extra electrical outlets on the base.

The downside was a problem with the heat. They sent a maintenance man promptly and he got it working for us.

Meanwhile, we went to bed and were very comfortable. However, we were able to hear noise in the hallway several times during the night. One group was particularly loud at 2:30 a.m.

The next morning, I noticed that the white grout in the tile wasn't so white. It was dingy and dirty. In addition, there was mildew around the faucet and nozzle in the shower. That was disappointing.

We left for the day and came back late evening to discover that the heat wasn't working again. Another maintenance man came immediately and couldn't fix it. He promptly moved us to another room three doors down.

Room #2 - Was perfect! The heat worked great, the grout in the bathroom tile was pristine white, and there was no mildew anywhere. It was a mirror image of our previous room and we thoroughly enjoyed staying in it.

Room Tip: Top floor might be quieter.
