Probably the best restaurant at The Wharf complex in Orange Beach, Alabama is the locally owned Villaggio Grill. Our group of 6 made a 7 p.m. reservation to eat outside, which is pleasant even though traffic at The Wharf drives right by the tables. A few potted palm trees on the perimeter of the tables might "soften" the site visually. I don't eat at Villaggio on a regular basis; it's a little pricey - salads, for example, are a la carte starting at $5.00 for a house salad (order with the delicous fig vinagrette - yum!). However, the food is WONDERFUL! I ordered the shrimp and scallops special at $30.00: the 3 huge scallops were perfect, better than the 2 shrimp on a skewer - which were still very good. The creamy worcestershire dipping sauce, served on the side, was delicious. Instead of the au gratin potatoes, the waitress was happy to accommodate by offering grilled asparagus - also very good. The complimentary olive, caper, parmasan cheese, olive oil dipping sauce and fresh-baked bread was very tasty appetizer. We were quite full but managed to share a delicous bread pudding for dessert, a true Southern favorite along with bananna pudding or Key lime pie.
