“ugh!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2009

Alright for just adults. Not in a very good neighborhood. Room was damp. The night we stayed there was a birthday party and when we returned from dinner there were about 50 people in the parking lot. Hole burned in the comforter of a non-smoking room.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2006

I had the chance to stay at this Holiday Inn for several weeks while doing contract work in the local area. I've stayed in 4 rooms (to date) covering every guestroom building on the site.

Friendly customer service is this motel's strength. My company repeatedly messed up my reservations from week to week, but the front desk workers were up to the challenge and worked quickly to resolve issues for me. I had only one bad service experience. I needed an iron my first week (the one in the room was already broken), and put in a request as I left for work. Two further requests in the evening were needed before someone showed to swap appliances. I consider this a "hiccup" in otherwise good service.

The rooms are clean & comfortable, though not outstanding. This is an old motel, so I did not expect 5-star perfection. The beds are good, not worn out, and the rooms are equipped with several conveniences. I found the refrigerator with chiller and the in-room iron and board to be very handy, and appreciated the good selection on the cable TV. The hotel guest guides were very useful in finding the best local restaurants to try. One area that could use improvement: In my first rooms, there were various devices that were in need of repair or replacement due to previous abuse (iron, alarm clock, remote control). This was not a problem in the other rooms in which I stayed. Although I've not had opportunity to try it, I saw a workout room made from a converted motel room. It features 5 or 6 machines and a TV to kill the boredom. There is also an outdoor pool that looked nice, but was closed for the fall season.

Although I mentioned the structure is old, there are currently construction projects to upgrade it. At the times of my visits, a new roof and facade was being built on the front building housing the front desk, offices, and restaurant.

A note about the restaurant: For overnight guests, there are coupons offered for free hot and cold bar breakfasts in the restaurant (tips not included). During November, the buffet always had scrambled eggs, grits, ham, sausage, American fries, and biscuits in the hot section. If I was lucky, they also had a good sausage gravy, but that was infrequent. The "cold" area featured various breads, bagles, jellys and spreads, fruits and yogurt. Coffee, juices, and milk were also standard. I did not dine at the restaurant during lunch or dinner, but observe that the restaurant was quite busy nearly every night, with parking spaces all around the main building filling up quickly.

There is a gas station literally as one entry to the guest quarters road, with 4 more gas stations very close by. McDonalds, Church's chicken, Burger King, Subway, Cracker Barrel, Captain D's, and Western Sizzlin (as well as 3 or 4 local restaurants) are all either immediately adjacent to the motel or within sight of it. Four miles south on I-85 at interchange 58, there are a host of dine-in chain restaurants available. The exit for Auburn (exit 51) is just 11 miles away.

Overall I'd say this was a solid motel. Certainly not a 5-star, but a very comfortable 3-star.
