“Great hotel for downtown Montgomery”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2011

Stayed the night before Columbus Day with our 6 year old granddaughter. Had not been to Montgomery before and was delighted that the hotel was so easy to find. (We also discovered that downtown Montgomery isn't very large.) Got a room with 2 queens. Spacious, nicely decorated, and very comfortable. Probably because of the holiday, we had no problem finding a space in the parking lot behind, which is small. The breakfast is nicer than most, with a few extra hot dishes. Also have breakfast bags at the registration desk, in case you need something for the road. Plus, there are warm cookies in the afternoon. Walkable to the State Capitol and RiverFront and on the same block with several restaurants. We got a refundable rate (you never know with a 6-year-old), and it was about $125 in total. Thought that was a very good price. Would have been cheaper if we got the non-refundable rate. Beautiful entry, but that's already been covered. Wouldn't hesitate to go back.

Room Tip: We were across from the elevator, and that would have been a problem if the hotel had been busy.

My husband and I stayed one night on Saturday October 12 last minute. We did not book ahead of time. We found that this hotel was less expensive and is actually more convenient to the downtown nightlife. There are bars and restaurants right next door and across the street. The hotel was very clean, with modern furnishings, while keeping the character and charm of an historic building. The staff was very attentive and helpful and able to answer any questions about the area we had. They even let us park our bike right up front in the valet lane. If we had had a vehicle parking may have been more of a challenge, as the lot for this hotel is very small. An added bonus was the complimentary hot breakfast buffet. While not gourmet, the food was hot, plentiful and served our needs well before taking out the next morning.

This hotel is a renovated older building, and is an extremely convenient location for meetings in downtown Montgomery. The rooms are well-kept and clean with an up-to-date feel, and the lobby is very nice -- far prettier and more spacious than most Hampton Inns, because the lobby area is actually separate from the breakfast area (which is off to the side on the first floor).

Breakfast is the usual Hampton Inn breakfast -- nothing special, but everything was fresh and tasted fine. I'd definitely stay here again.

Stayed here for a week - no real complaints, but a few notes for improvement.

The doors slam loudly, so when someone goes in and out of their room in the middle of the night - you hear it. Sometimes I even woke up because of it, but was able to deal.

Secondly, it's in downtown Montgomery. On Friday nights there are loud parties at the nearby bars. Bring earplugs.

Thirdly, when the local baseball team wins - there will be fireworks. I thought they were bombs.

Finally, the breakfast is pretty terrible (stale and unappetizing) and there are no real breakfast options in the area.

HOWEVER, most of the time that we stayed there, we had no other problems at all. The staff were courteous, the room comfy and clean. We got what we needed.

Room Tip: We stayed in a room with a view of A WALL. If this matters to you, ask for a different view. Also a...

This is an old building in the heart of downtown. My son loved the fact that it looked like the Tower of Terror at Disney World. We reserved the Two queen suite. It has the 2 beds, plus a pull-out couch. It's all in one room, but there was plenty of room for our family of four. My only down side was the bath. There wasn't a vent for helping with the steam from a shower. But over all we thought it was a great place to stay. Don't forget the breakfast that is included in every reservation. And a good one at that.
