Took our 8 year old son during my wife's business trip to Montgomery. The zoo was just OK-although we had visited the St Louis Zoo in May, which is one of the best we have ever visited, which may skew our opinion.

We found the zoo to be clean, the animals seem to have good care and most had good room to roam around. It took 2 hours to tour the zoo, we did not ride the train.

The concern here is lack of security in the parking area as we were approached by homeless people begging for money and no security whatsoever in sight. The parking lot is 100% unsecure with people "roaming" around. We did not feel comfortable in this area.

Just a quick note- great zoo, of course, but the best time to go is to see the Zoo lights!

MY family and I visted the Montgomery Zoo on July 25 2006, we had a super great time. It was 100 % better then B-Ham Zoo. We are already planning to go back in Oct. The animals were a lot easier to view and they had a lot more room to run in. I have recommened it to everyone. They had little tents that sprayed mist on you to cool off during the summer heat. My children are 13 and 7 and loved it. My family consist of my dad,mom,2 kids,a adopted mom/ grandmom and myself , ages 7-58 ,we all loved it. I can't wait to go back I fell in love with the spider monkeys. You to will love it so what are you waiting for get up and go.

“Fantastic trip to the zoo!”

We visited the Montgomery Zoo during Memorial Day weekend, and I must say it was fantastic! Very clean, not smelly, and a huge variety of animals. We visited Zoo Atlanta a couple of months ago, and it was okay, but we enjoyed Montgomery Zoo much more! In Montgomery, there's lots more open space for the animals to roam, which probably helps cut down on the smell. Prices were a bargain, especially compared to Atlanta. I highly recommend this attraction for all ages!

This used to be a really nice zoo, but in the past few years it has really gone down hill. It is actually embarrassing that the reptile house has animals you can buy in pet stores and no venomous snakes. The alligator exhibit is very poor and bordering on cruel. I've seen better exhibits in roadside zoos.

How long are the elephants supposed to wait in the little barn? I think they have been there for over a year.

The Overlook cafe is very slow and the food isn't that good. If you go during lunch time, expect close to an hour long wait.

I also visited the Mann museum which for some reason is associated with the zoo. It is supposed to be a "natural history" musuem, but it is full of errors and seems to be more a tribute to a bow hunter. Not much about Alabama wildlife either, most of it is Alaskan animals (hunted of course).
