“location and price”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2013

We visit this location as location and price what the main matter, to my surprise the only matter of concern was the bed, they are too soft, other wise everything else was great. Good staff, good breakfast and they really try hard to please you and look after your need.
Did I mention the price, wow that was very good the best in the whole city and around Montgomery.

Room Tip: It doesn't matter, the hotel if off the main road in a way.

This was like most Springhill Suites hotels around the country - equipped with a small kitchen area and includes a continental breakfast. What stood out to me most was the staff at this location.

First, my co-worker and I checked in at 7AM after experiencing some travel difficulties. They waived our room fee for that night which was much appreciated.

There is a lady who works in the morning to make sure you're taken care of for breakfast. I can't remember her name- but she was very helpful in putting together a meal for me and even helped me carry it back to my room.

Another night I wanted to use some weights and one of the staff members called next door at the TownPlace to see if I could use their fitness room.

Every person I encountered at this location was very friendly and professional.

The staff is friendly enough, but the entire hotel just needs a good top to bottom cleaning. My room had a stale smell...not the typical fresh smell I've come to expect from Marriott hotels, The bathtub had a large ring of rust around the drain...and considerable mildew was in the grout. The carpet in front of the bathroom vanity and mirror had some sort of powder residue on it...probably the last guests foot powder...I don't even want to think about it. To top it off, the ipad clock/alarm was broken.
Bottom line, the hotel offers value, but if I simply wanted value I would go down the Marriott spectrum to the Fairfield Inn. The Fairfield Inn actually looked nicer.

Clean hotel and front desk was very friendly. The breakfast was just enough for me but my husband prefers a warm breakfast with grits, etc. {Not instant grits}. Otherwise, great hotel and value. The ONLY reason I won't not stay again is because other hotels in the area {like drury inn} are around the same rate and quality and have a better breakfast.

This is my first bad experience with a SpringHill Suites. Most of my issues reflect bad management. The rooms are dated with marked up walls and toilets that don’t work right. The after hours key entries don't work and you have to apparently wake someone up to get back in the building after 11:00. The staff is lackluster and not especially interested in the comfort of the guests. The pool is cloudy and dirty looking. The building is creaky and dark and dingy. On the plus side, the beds were very comfortable. It’s not a terrible hotel, but not up to Marriott standards.

I had a generally good experience here. The staff is amazing. Everyone I encountered was so helpful, cheery, and courteous. That alone made up for some of the aspects of my stay that weren't so stellar. But more on that later.

The king bed and fresh linens provided very restful sleep. The iHome radio with iPod dock was especially enjoyable and worked perfectly with my iPod Touch. The bathroom is decently sized and includes an outer dressing area with the sink & vanity. The bathroom has a central exhaust duct which is much better than a rattle-trap exhaust fan like I've suffered through at other properties.

The desk area is nice, but there's only one AC outlet. Bring your power strip along if you have more than one thing to plug in. I never sat on the couch, but the chair in front of the TV is comfy. The TV is positioned so that it can be viewed from either the seating area or the bed.

Now for the dings that cost the loss of a fifth star: Room 320 has a very peculiar odor. You notice it every time you enter the room. It defies accurate identification, but it's best described as a cross between mildew and something rancid. But hey, at least the hallway smells extra fresh when you exit the room. The recessed commercial CFL fixture in the bathroom only had one of two bulbs working. The one that did work would shut itself off after extended use and refused to turn back on for several minutes. The corner soap dish in the tub tilts backwards and traps a pool of water for your soap bar to sit in. The plastic part of the shower curtain is way too long, and you wind up standing on it when taking a shower. The curved shower rod is the cheap kind and sags badly in the middle. It should be replaced with a higher quality model that doesn't depend on flimsy tubing and a tiny set screw to maintain the rod's orientation.

Finally, let's not overlook the front doors of the property. Two sets of double swinging doors instead of automatic sliding doors. Every morning and every evening I had to do battle with these stupid things as I attempted to ferry my roller computer bag and at times carry-out food. So frustrating and so stupid. Why are "hospitality" companies so blind to this issue? Pull-to-open doors belong on a 7-Eleven, NOT on a hotel! Your guests have things. Sometimes lots of things. We don't need to pull open two sets of doors just to get inside your property.

Room Tip: Had a room on the side facing away from the freeway. No road noise noted.

Stayed due to a visit at Alabama State. A few turns off I-85 but easily found. Other hotels near but this one is at the end of the road.
Restaurants around the corner but not within walking distance. Parked close to the entrance due to previous reviews. The front desk staff was very friendly.
The room was decent. There was plastic still up at the end of the halls due to renovation I guess.
Breakfast mostly starches, fruit, waffle, juices, oatmeal, yogurt.
Did not have time to use the pool or fitness room.
