We were booked at this hotel through Carnival Cruise Line when we arrived in Mobile after 2 extra days at sea due to the hurricane Gustaf (?). What a wonderful surprise to be sent to this gorgeous hotel. The check in was very quick considering that there must have been at least 25 rooms booked by Carnival. The staff was very kind and spent time answering any questions to this bedraggled group. The room on the 7th floor was absolutely flawless. The bathroom was larger than our cabin on the ship. All the amenites you could possibly want. A large tub and a shower. In the room was a refrigerator, microwave and coffee machine. The beds were so comfortable and the pillows didn't bother me. We ate in the cafe which was very crowded by found a place at a table with two local men who were very friendly and informative. Such a lovely hotel and we could only stay one night because we were very anxious to get home after our cruise experience.

I stay in hotels 100+ nights per year. This hotel is the best I've stayed in this year.

The lobby is beautiful. Not just in a cool vibe way, but in an historical way. You can feel the history in that dome. The hotel drips updated classic elegance.

The room - corner, top floor suite upgrade - was comfortable and elegant. The windows. The bathroom. The closet. The bedroom. Everything was just right. (Well, one gripe - the TVs need to be upgraded.)

The staff was great. The concierge lounge was great. The bar was fun. Mobile is a nice place to waste a couple days. If you're looking for a quick romantic getaway, consider this place!

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — This is an historical property that has been renovated perfectly.
    • Disliked — Like all Renn/FSMarriott/JW properties, making guests pay for Internet is tacky.

“Really Nice Hotel”

The Battle House - A Renaissance Hotel

Aug 15, 2008

Stayed one night with family of five. this is a very nice, completely new hotel that is very ornate and very classy. the food and the service in the sports bar downstairs was very good. the front desk help was very friendly and efficient. the rooms, we had two, were large and very, very clean. the beds and bedding and all furnishings were of very high quality. this is an excellent hotel. a mini bar wouldve been nice though.

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — all new and very high quality hotel
    • Disliked — no minibar, does have vending machines though

The new Battle House is an excellent hotel, perfect for business travelers. The lobby and rooms are elegantly appointed. I recommend that you pay the extra money and upgrade to a room on the 7th floor that gives you access to the concierge lounge, which has an "honor bar" system of cocktails in the evenings, and a great breakfast. Although the workout facilities were not finished when I stayed here, you have access to a good YMCA a block or so away. If the workout facilities are anything like the sister hotel in Montgomery, they will be top flight.

“Great Stay”

I stayed at the Battle House July 14-18 for a conference. I knew in advance that the rooms in the towers faced the train tracks so I asked for a nice, quiet room away from the train. The front desk associate assigned me room 7131, and it was fabulous.

The room is HUGE and is on the inside corner of a U that faces Royal Street. It's a handicapped accessible room and does not have a bathtub, but the space and light made up for that in spades. I did not hear the train at all. Not once.

My room was on the club level, and I did enjoy snacks and breakfast a few mornings during my stay. Staff in the club was extremely accommodating. Hint: Get a drink and go up to the 8th floor terrace. You don't have to ask permission. Just go up. It's fabulous and there's rarely anyone up there. We took a bottle of wine up and watched the sun set one evening.

Remember, if you are a light sleeper, request a room in the historic section facing Royal. I didn't hear the first train whistle.
